Enhanced access for re-entry into education, training is is seen to enable women to achieve self-fulfilment and to enhance employment opportunitiesMcNickle, Cathy, n/a January 1994 (has links)
The study topic undertaken was "Enhanced access for
re-entry into education, training is seen to enable women
to achieve self-fulfilment and enhance employment
opportunities".
Thesis Proposition and Study Problem :
The topic was undertaken to study groups of women
during different stages of education, training to see
whether they did achieve self-fulfilment and had better
employment opportunities if they did have enhanced access
for re-entry into education, training.
The study briefly looks at the progress by women
chronologically, from the late nineteenth century until
today, noting the major changes that have given greater
gender eguity within the workplace.
Methodology :
The study focused on four different case studies;
each case study focusing on different women who were at
different stages of education, training. The study
ensured it also focused on women who had gone into nontraditional
roles to gain a greater insight as a result
of women being given greater access, whether it has
played a role in women having the opportunity to gain
greater career opportunities and self-fulfilment as a
result.
Results :
Some of the key results were that if women were
given the opportunities of education, training that they
were able to achieve self-fulfilment and their employment
opportunities were enhanced. It was also evident that
women were increasing in numbers to study at university.
There were a number of inequalities noted still, although
there have been a number of changes in recent times.
These changes were also noted, as well as the barriers
that are still evident.
The study identifies different areas within
education/employment whereby there are barriers and
inequalities. The changes in training/legislation are
also noted.
Conclusions :
The study is concluded by compiling the results of
the four case studies and presenting these as well as
other evidence from a variety of sources clarifying the
investigation that "Enhanced access for re-entry into
education, training is seen to enable women to achieve
self-fulfilment and enhance employment opportunities".

Evaluation of the employment and integration strategies of persons with disabilities in Limpopo Department of Agriculture.Komana, Sekepe Michael January 2006 (has links)
Thesis (MPA) --University of Limpopo, 2006 / Introduction: Discrimination against people with disabilities is evident in the
social and economic environment. The categories of disabilities that are mostly
affected by discrimination are physical, visual, hearing and mental impairment.
Aim: The study was aimed at evaluating the employment and integration
strategies of persons with disabilities in the Limpopo Department of
Agriculture. This was done by evaluating the recruitment and employment
methods of persons with disabilities; investigating the level of participation of
persons with disabilities in the departmental activities and by evaluating the accessibility of the work environment.
Method: The study was a descriptive, quantitative survey design. It described
the perceptions of top management and senior management officials on the
integration and employment of persons with disabilities into the mainstream of
government activities. It described the available integration strategies and
policies in the department as well as the physically accessible structures and
environment to persons with disabilities. Out of a total of 33 senior managers
that were surveyed in this study, only 18 responded.
Results: The study revealed negative attitudes and perceptions in the
department towards people with disabilities. Persons with physical impairment seem to be the most easily employed at a higher rate than other categories such as the visually impaired and the deaf, this was mainly influenced by the accessibility of adverts. On the other hand, a significant measure appeared to
be in place to redress the imbalances in terms of gender.
Conclusion: There was a general agreement that the method of recruitment
was discriminatory against visual and hearing-impaired people, and therefore
Managers must spearhead transformation and equity in their respective
branches/sub- branches.

Educational barriers and employment advancement among the marginalized people in Namibia : the case of the OvaHimba and OvaHemba in the Kunene RegionNdimwedi, Jesaja Nghitila January 2016 (has links)
Magister Educationis (Adult Learning and Global Change) - MEd(AL) / This study examines the relationship between educational attainment and employment advancement among marginalized people in Namibia. It attempts to identify the situational, institutional and dispositional barriers that have stifled the educational progress of OvaHimba and OvaZemba people based in the Kunene region and how these have limited their access to formal employment opportunities and/or employment advancement. Furthermore, it explores the potential of Adult Education to improve the formal educational qualifications of the OvaHimba and OvaZemba adults. Namibia is often lauded as an example of a country which has successfully negotiated the perils of post-independent statehood to take its place as a model citizen in the community of democratic nations. Blessed with relative stability, an abundance of natural resources, and a liberal constitution, Namibia appears to be ideally placed to provide all its citizens with a decent life consisting of access to quality education, healthcare and economic opportunities. Despite this, Namibia education has failed it adult population because of numerous factors. This study identify these factors.

An Investigation into buyer behaviour of craft retailers in South AfricaMakhitha, K.M. (Khathutshelo Mercy) January 2013 (has links)
The SA government has identified the craft industry as a key focus area contributing to sustainable development, economic growth and employment opportunities. However the industry faces many challenges such as global competition and lack of resources. More importantly, craft producers in SA cannot access the craft retailer market successfully which limit their financial success.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the buyer behaviour of craft retailers in SA. The specific focus of the study is to investigate the buying process followed by craft retailers, to determine the importance of supplier selection criteria used to evaluate suppliers, as well as to determine the sources of information that craft retailers use most often when searching for suppliers.
A self-administered survey was conducted among craft retailers and a sample of 233 were realised. The descriptive statistics are reported as well as factor analysis, ANOVA and MANOVA results.
Findings indicated that the buying process craft retailers go through are extensive and that certain stages are also more often used than others. No statistical significant differences were found between the types of craft retailers or the years of buying experience and the stages of the buying process.
„Product quality‟ was considered the most important supplier selection criteria followed by „product is exciting and attractive‟ and „product styling and design‟. Statistical significant differences were found between different types of craft retailers and the importance they attach to selected supplier selection criteria but no significant differences were found for the years of buying experience.
- iv -
The results also indicated that craft retailers consult certain information sources more often than others. Information sources were grouped into three factors after the factor analysis: internal and personal information, promotional information and print advertising. The statistical significant differences were found between the different types of craft retailers and their use of promotional information sources but no differences were evident for the other two sources, namely internal and personal and print advertising.
The study resulted in a proposed marketing strategy for craft producers to enable them to market their craft products more effectively to crafts retailers. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2013. / gm2014 / Marketing Management / unrestricted

The study aimed to investigate disabled persons opportunities to get a job in the Swedish labor market based on employers' attitudes to employing persons with disabilities in trade and offices. The study was a questionnaire study and was aimed towards employers’ attitudes to hiring persons based on twelve types of disabilities. The survey was attended by 57 people, of whom 30 came from the office industry and 27 from trade. Results showed that employers generally had a negative attitude towards hiring persons with disabilities. Persons with "hearing impairment" had the highest probability of being employed, while persons with "severe problems with dyslexia and/or dyscalculia" had the lowest probability of being employed. The conclusion of the study was that people with disabilities had inferior opportunities to persons without disabilities in the industries trade and offices, when other variables such as gender, age and education could not influence employers' attitudes.

Job-sharing in the South African labour market : its potential, feasibility and impact on unemployment, productivity and quality of work lifeNgambi, Hellicy Chakosamoto 02 1900 (has links)
The primary aim of this survey is to:
* explore whether there is potential for job-sharing in the South African labour market;
*
*
describe the characteristics of potential job-sharers and
to explain why Job-sharing would be an appropriate and feasible solution to unemployment,
massive retrenchments, poor quality ofwork life (QWL) and low worker productivity
Job-sharing has been used in many developed countries to address a variety of problems at the
individual, organisational and national level. These include allowing workers to have a balance
between their work and non-work life; to increase worker productivity and QWL and to increase
employment opportunities.
The literature survey affirms that these problems are prevalent in Africa as a whole and in South Africa
specifically. The survey results reveal that the environment in South is Africa is conducive to jobsharing
and that slightly over one third of the workers and organisations and two thirds of the jobseekers
are willing to job-share. The results of this study also reveals that QWL, productivity and
unemployment does influence the willingness to job-share and that approximately 80% of the
employees would rather either job-share, work-share or opt for some other alternative than to
have retrenchments. Thus by implication, job-sharing would address the problems relating to poor
QWL, low worker productivity, fewer employment opportunities, as well as massive retrenchments
in South Africa. The study has also explored possible reasons and obstacles to job-sharing and found that whether
these are perceived as significantly important or not, depends on whether one is an employer, employee
or job-seeker . The job-seekers feel more than others, that there is no reason insurmountable or
obstacle preventing the introduction of job-sharing by which to avert their unemployed status. There
are also differences in willingness to job-share among subgroups with regard to the industry, area
of work, position held in the organisation and the availability of job-sharing positions in the
organisation. This thesis reports that there is potential for job-sharing in the South African labour
market, to address a variety of problems pertaining to workers, organisations, job-seekers and,
therefore, the whole nation at large. / Business Management / D.B.L.
