Striving for excellence in quality when delivering projects in a new country to exceed client expectations and increase client satisfaction : A case study at Jacobs Engineering Group

Hansson, Hampus January 2019 (has links)
When entering a new market and working for a new client, delivery of consistent and high quality is of great importance for future opportunities. Studies have shown that from having a good internal quality control and quality assurance for client deliveries leads to increased client satisfaction and consequently more successful projects. To study this connection and how to meet client expectations when working in a new country, this thesis outlines a case study performed at Jacobs Engineering Group (Jacobs) in Stockholm. Quality is defined as the processes used to strive for a degree of perceived client satisfaction. These processes differ across different countries. This thesis has compared cultural differences identified in the case study between Sweden and the UK and assessed Jacobs’ internal methods (Project Delivery Workflow) of assuring quality to meet and exceed client expectations. The findings from this study can probably help Jacobs adapt their practices and ways of conducting business for ongoing and future projects in Sweden. Furthermore, the report will give a basis on how Jacobs should prepare their projects prior to further expansion into new markets. To fulfil the purpose of this thesis, literature was compiled with a focus of quality, culture and client satisfaction to provide a basis for the assessment. The methodology consisted of assessing Jacobs’ internal Quality Management System to identify potential areas of improvement. Following, interviews were conducted to obtain qualitative responses on how Jacobs should adapt to cultural differences within the Swedish market to meet client expectations and expand their businesses. The interviews included a quantitative segment to visualise cultural differences and identify areas where Jacobs should preferably develop to meet client expectations. The interviews were then presented and analysed using a thematic analysis to identify the most significant themes of this study. This thesis suggested that Jacobs should adapt their Project Delivery Workflow for projects of different magnitudes and improve connections between project phases and disciplines. Other suggestions were to reconfigure their organisational structure when embarking upon a project in Sweden. From the findings in this study, further recommendations were given to Jacobs on how to conduct business in Sweden from comparing cultural differences for continued cooperation with Trafikverket and what project aspects Jacobs should focus on. Lastly, this thesis concluded how Jacobs should conduct further studies to assess the importance of project aspects across borders and cultures when entering a new market to deliver projects successfully.

Tamimi, Abdulnassir 03 November 2011 (has links)
According to Tinto (2000a), institutions have fewer retention and persistence problems when their students are not only academically prepared, but are also engaged on campus as well as satisfied with the resources and support provided by the college. A student that has a positive first semester experience is more likely to achieve academic success and re-enroll the following term. The purpose of this study was to explore the differences in experiences, perceptions, expectations, and engagement levels of entering male versus female students and returning male versus returning female students at the gender-segregated Community College of Qatar during the first three to six weeks at the college. The study also attempted to determine if any student support services such as advising, tutoring, counseling, new student orientation program, and participation in student activities were useful and had any influence in promoting student engagement. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. For entering male and female students survey responses were classified using questions from five Survey of Entering Student Engagement (SENSE) benchmarks: (1) Engaged Learning (2) Early Connections (3) Clear Academic Plan and Pathway (4) Academic and Social Support Network and (5) Effective Track to College Readiness. While questions from four Community College Survey of Student Engagement (CCSSE) benchmarks: (1) Active and Collaborative Learning (2) Student Effort (3) Support for Learners (4) Student-Faculty Interaction were used for returning male and female students. One-Sample t-tests were run to determine if significant differences in engagement levels existed between the four independent groups for each of the benchmark categories. Cohen’s d calculations were used to measure the effect size and the standardized differences between the means of the variables. For the purpose of this study, Cohen’s d effect size of 0.35 or higher was used as the criteria for interpreting statistically significance. The results of this study revealed entering and returning female students reported statistically higher engagement levels than entering and returning male students in most of the variables indicating that they are more likely to utilize student support services at higher frequencies and have a more positive first semester experience than their counterparts. / text

Improviser sur son usage de drogue : la subjectivation des expériences de l'usage de substances psychoactives illicites en rave-parties (1990-2010) / Improvise about one's drugs use : subjectivation of experience's illicit psychoactives substances use in rave-parties (1990-2010)

Hoareau, Emmanuelle 11 December 2017 (has links)
The higher rate of illicit psychoactives substances use during the entering adulthood is currently analysed with reference to rituals of passage to adulthood in other societies but without considering its frame of experience in our. This thesis suggest a comprehensive approach about definition of the impacts of this practice on entering adulthood by thirty persons who went to rave parties between 1990 and 2010. Really, evolutions of the rave and of categories of thought of the use of illicit psychoactives substances during this period have to be considered. In refer to work's N. E. ZINBERG, this use is defined as a social experience and and its individuals meanings are apprehended as results of subjectivation such as defined by V. DE GAULEJAC. After vérification of different meanings experience, the goal is incover the explanatory variables to the choice of one or other meaning, by integrating analysis of relation with stigma. Method is based on two principles of clinical sociology : the « co-construction » of the knowledge with interviewees and the analysis about impacts of interaction with the researcher on their remarks. The redirection toward a inductive and clinical analysis of stories and meanings provided an understanding of its variations expression of affects on an attribute what bring someone into disrepute, and an explaining its variations by “définition of situation”.
