Petrova víra v kontextu Ježíšovy epifanie na moři / Faith of Peter in the Context of Jesus' Epiphany on the SeaKocourková, Simona January 2020 (has links)
Peter's faith in the context of Jesus's epiphany on the sea. Analysis of an excerpt from the gospel according to Matthew 14, 22 - 33 with respect to the experience of faith of the Apostle Peter. The study deals with the analysis of an excerpt from the gospel of Matthew about Jesus's epiphany on the sea (Mt. 14, 22 - 33) with regard to actions of the Apostle Peter. The first part is dedicated to the text of the pericope itself, its origin, placement and function in the gospel of Matthew. Literary and textual analysis is performed mainly by comparison with analogical excerpts from other gospels, especially the gospel of Mark. Due to this, the unique message of Matthew's gospel, which is Peter's behaviour as the answer of faith to the manifestation of Jesus's divinity, is revealed. The evangelist thus unravels a vast composition about the church. The figure of the Apostle Peter, his role and meaning within the whole text of the gospel is the subject of the second part of the thesis. The picture of the first disciple is characterized not only by an exemplary faith, but also by a failure and an example of human weakness. This fact leads to the question about what was the goal that the evangelist followed by describing the negative aspects of Peter's actions. The third part deals with the fundamental...

<em>The Meaning of the Moment</em>: A Collection of Short Stories.Benton, Jonathan David 01 December 2004 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis consists of three short stories in very different genres but tied together by a intensely personal look at the lives of its protagonists culminating in epiphanies. One of these epiphanies is intended solely for the reader, but in two cases, the reader and character gains the insight. “The Tears of Angels” looks at the effect one person in a moment, even a stranger, can have on the protagonist’s life. “Climbing Heaven and Gazing on Earth” focuses on the haunting power of history and the need we as humans can feel to share a story, to make sense of it, no matter how personal. In “To Set It Right,” I take history in a different direction, giving it a voice and a power to reach from the past. In all of the stories, the epiphanies serve to point towards meaning and enlightenment in different ways

Insubstantial pageants fading : a critical exploration of epiphanic discourse, with special reference to three of Robert Browning's major religious poemsKeep, Carol Julia 11 1900 (has links)
This dissertation examines the nature of epiphanic discourse in
three of Robert Browning's religious poems, namely, 'Christmas-
Eve', 'Easter-bay' and 'La Saisiaz'.
Chapter 1 investigates epiphany from religious, historical
and theoretical perspectives, followed by a discussion of
Browning's developing Christian beliefs. Chapters 2 and 3
explore the epiphanic moment in the companion poems, 'Christmas-
Eve' and 'Easter-Day'. Chapter 4 explores how the double epiphany
initiated from Browning's personal experience recounted in 'La
Saisiaz', finds its resolution in 'The Two Poets of Croisic'.
Browning's 'good minute' or 'infinite moment' originates
in Romanticism and reverberates into the twentieth century mainly
in the writing of James Joyce, who first used the word 'epiphany'
in its literary sense.
Because Browning's faith allowed continual interrogation of
Christian doctrine, his experience and reading of epiphanic
moments avoid any attempt at closure. Thus they offer the reader
both a human image for recognition and a coded legend for
individual interpretation / M.A. (English Studies) / M.A. (English)

Expecting epiphany : performative ritual and Roman cultural spaceArney, Jane Katherine 17 June 2011 (has links)
When ancient people entered a temple or other sacred space, how did the art and architecture of the site work upon their senses as mediators of divine presence? This thesis demonstrates that the ancient perception of the deity's actual presence in visual images created a tension that was intensified by the spatial environment and the theatricality of ritual performance. Visual representations acted in concert with cultic ritual to manipulate the visitor through a revelatory experience and create the phenomenon of epiphany. Epiphany, from the Greek word epiphaneia, is the visible manifestation of the deity. Epiphany in the ancient world could manifest as miracles, signs and natural phenomena; however, my thesis will focus primarily on visual epiphany of deity. My aim is to describe how the elements of the built environment and performative ritual combined to create not only the expectation but the actualization of an epiphanic experience for the beholder. The phenomenon of visual epiphany has been largely overlooked until relatively recently. Scholarly examination of temples and other ritual spaces has focused more on archaeological description, formal analysis, mythic narrative, and social and political structures. There has been very little exploration of the actual ritual and neuro-phenomenological experience of religious participants as it relates to the visual environment. With this work my aim is to contribute to the scholarly knowledge of the ancient viewer's experience of epiphany as it was shaped by sacred space and mediated by religious ritual in the ancient world. / text

Our research of Master's degree has as purpose to compare Perto do Coração Selvagem, first published novel of Clarice Lispector, and O Tempo redescoberto, the novel that ends one of the most important literary accomplishments in the last times, the work Em busca do tempo perdido concludes, of Marcel Proust. For us to promote such comparison we based on the presence of themes that, in an associated form, exists in the two works, in the forms of the epiphany, what took us to extend the discussion for the characters' reaction before the impact of the sensitive world, the time and the memory (remembrance form). Events seemingly banal, inoffensive, apprehended by the senses (audition, palate, touch, vision, sense of smell), they assume a complexity that, only noticed by instants, it checks them the revelation character. So much the narrator-character proustiano as Joana, the protagonist of the Perto do coração Selvagem, they are rapturous for those developing moments, that a lot of times unchain remembrance processes. The time is an element of central importance for the novelists in subject; we tried to analyze it in the ambit of the characters' mind, taken by nuances affective, existential, stratified in the maze of the protagonists' memory and represented in differentiated ways. For us to deep our vision concerning the epiphany idea, we associated it to the subject of the esthetic experience, perspective that gave to us the possibility to a deepened understanding of the referred works.

Previous issue date: 2013-09-26 / Funda??o De Amparo A Pesquisa Do Estado Do Piau? / This research studies the tradition of epiphany in the community of Cip? de Baixo, which
belongs to the city of Pedro II, in the state of Piau?. Readings were made seeeking to
emphasize the processivity of the play that navigates between permanence and change. The
study starts with a social context of the community, in dialogue with the life history of the
owner of the epiphany, Raimundo Mil?: strong figure who, along with his family networks, as
well as networks of patronage and friendship, struggles for the resistence of the play. The
description of the ceremony of Kings, with its constituent parts, punctuates the remarkable
character of Cip? community epiphany. This detailed understanding of the play favors the
understanding of some of the social vines that serve as the basis for the warp of this cultural
practice: modernization vine, where we explore the general motivation of Cip? community
epiphany transformations - modernity; family and community exchange vine, which describes
the scheme that holds the permanence of the play; masculinity vine, explains the strong gender
system that crosses Cip? community epiphany; reinvented tradition vine, where we locate the
uniqueness of Cip? community epiphany tradition and its dialogues with modern dynamism;
conflict between generation vine, depicts the differences between generations and how they
contribute to the dialogue between the traditional and the new; theatrical spectacle vine,
describes the play as a performative activity. Thus, we build a social scheme that analyzes the
play of Kings of Cip? community as a whole, where change and continuity plan a cultural
plot on their own / Esta pesquisa estuda a tradi??o do reisado da comunidade Cip? de Baixo, do munic?pio

[pt] TEOLOGIA DO RITO: A AÇÃO RITUAL COMO LUGAR DA EPIFANIA DO MISTÉRIO DE CRISTO / [en] THEOLOGY OF THE RITE: THE RITUAL ACTION AS PLACE OF EPIPHANY OF THE MYSTERY OF CHRISTGUILHERME DA COSTA VILELA GOUVEA 27 January 2020 (has links)
[en] The rite has its preponderant place in the liturgy of the Church. It belongs to the world of active mediations of religious attitude, ranging from the simplest gesture to the most elaborate celebration. Rites are therefore all actions oriented to religious expression, and in its genesis is the sacred, the divine, that which is pointed out as a mystery. The irruption of God in history through the incarnation and redemptive action of his Son, Jesus Christ, will enable the Christian liturgical rite to be a differentiating element of every other ritual form, that of always making reference to a full reality, that is in level of event which has already been effected, and he is aptly the image of that event, in the very likeness that binds it, brings the sign of the reality to which it refers. From the liturgical theology of the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy Sacrosanctum Concilium, we try to understand how the liturgical rite, in its prime function of announcing and realizing, becomes the epiphany of the Paschal Mystery of Christ. In him, the mystery of Christ manifests itself in a clear and luminous way, giving the Church a profound experience.
