Nonbinary-LDPC-Coded Modulation Schemes for High-Speed Optical Communication NetworksArabaci, Murat January 2010 (has links)
IEEE has recently finished its ratification of the IEEE Standard 802.3ba in June 2010 which set the target Ethernet speed as 100 Gbps. The studies on the future trends of the ever-increasing demands for higher speed optical fiber communications show that there is no sign of decline in the demand. Constantly increasing internet traffic and the bandwidth-hungry multimedia services like HDTV, YouTube, voice-over-IP, etc. can be shown as the main driving forces. Indeed, the discussions over the future upgrades on the Ethernet speeds have already been initiated. It is predicted that the next upgrade will enable 400 Gbps Ethernet and the one after will be toward enabling the astounding 1 Tbps Ethernet.Although such high and ultra high transmission speeds are unprecedented over any transmission medium, the bottlenecks for achieving them over the optical fiber remains to be fundamental. At such high operating symbol rates, the signal impairments due to inter- and intra-channel fiber nonlinearities and polarization mode dispersion get exacerbated to the levels that cripple the high-fidelity communication over optical fibers. Therefore, efforts should be exerted to provide solutions that not only answer the need for high-speed transmission but also maintain low operating symbol rates. In this dissertation, we contribute to these efforts by proposing nonbinary-LDPC-coded modulation (NB-LDPC-CM) schemes as enabling technologies that can meet both the aforementioned goals. We show that our proposed NB-LDPC-CM schemes can outperform their prior-art, binary counterparts called bit-interleaved coded modulation (BI-LDPC-CM) schemes while attaining the same aggregate bit rates at a lower complexity and latency. We provide comprehensive analysis on the computational complexity of both schemes to justify our claims with solid evidence. We also compare the performances of both schemes by using amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise dominated optical fiber transmission and short to medium haul optical fiber transmission scenarios. Both applications show outstanding performances of NB-LDPC-CM schemes over the prior-art BI-LDPC-CM schemes with increasing gaps in coding gain as the transmission speeds increase. Furthermore, we present how a rate-adaptive NB-LDPC-CM can be employed to fully utilize the resources of a long haul optical transport network throughout its service time.

The present work is about a specific group of error detection and correction codes, the Reed-Solomon codes. Such codes are used in telecommunications applications (wire telephony, digital television, broadband wireless communications) and digital storage systems (optical, magnetic disks). The Reed Solomon codes are based on a specific category of numerical fields, called Galois Fields.
The Work consists of the study of the properties of Galois fields and of the design of an codec for Reed Solomon codes. The design was implemented in hardware with the use of Verilog HDL language. The synthesis of the circuit targets Field programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and Applications Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) technologies. The design methodology for Intellectual Property Units for integrated circuits (IP cores) was used. According to that methodology the design is platform independent and consequently the implementation can be achieved with minimal or no changes in different technologies. The IP cores model is widely applied in Systems on Integrated Circuits (System on Chips).

Comparison of Different Secure Network Coding Paradigms Concerning Transmission EfficiencyPfennig, Stefan, Franz, Elke 07 July 2014 (has links) (PDF)
Preventing the success of active attacks is of essential importance for network coding since even the infiltration of one single corrupted data packet can jam large parts of the network. The existing approaches for network coding schemes preventing such pollution attacks can be divided into two categories: utilize cryptographic approaches or utilize redundancy similar to error correction coding. Within this paper, we compared both paradigms concerning efficiency of data transmission under various circumstances. Particularly, we considered an attacker of a certain strength as well as the influence of the generation size. The results are helpful for selecting a suitable approach for network coding taking into account both security against pollution attacks and efficiency.

Digitální vodoznačení obrazu / Digital image watermarkingČíka, Petr January 2009 (has links)
Digital image watermarking has developed for the purpose of protecting intellectual property rights to multimedia data. The focus of this thesis is searching for an alternative solution of digital image watermarking methods. A detailed analysis of watermarking methods particularly in the frequency domain, and the modification of these methods are the main aim of this work. Improved performance in watermark extraction is one of the main goals. First, the common static image watermarking methods, possible attacks on the watermarked data and techniques for objective measurement of watermarked image quality are shortly introduced. Techniques which use the space domain for watermarking ar described in the next part of this work. It is about techniques which insert the watermark into the least significant bits of an image both in the RGB domain and in the YUV domain. The main part of the thesis depicts modified and newly developed static image watermarking methods in the frequency domain. These methods use various transforms and error-correction codes, by means of which the watermark robustness increases. All the methods developed are tested in MATLAB. Results together with tables and graphs are one part of work. The end of the thesis is devoted to a comparison of all the developed methods and their evaluation.
