I denna rapport beskrivs arbetet med att ta fram en informationsfolder till Eskilstuna kommun som vänder sig till ungdomar. Syftet med informationsfoldern är att övertyga ungdomar om att Eskilstuna kommun är en attraktiv arbetsgivare och arbetsplats, då en stor del av kommunens anställda snart har gått i pension. Kommunen saknar sedan tidigare informationsmaterial som vänder sig till yngre invånare. Utformningen av foldern är baserad på budskapsstrategier, retorik och stilistik samt tidigare studier om Eskilstuna kommun, årsplan, styrdokument och intervjuer med anställda i kommunen. Rapporter om gymnasieungdomars värderingar, analys av informationsbroschyrer riktade till ungdomar samt fokusgrupp är ytterligare metoder som har legat till grund för framställningen av foldern.

Syftet med denna uppsats är att utifrån den kvalitativa undersökningen ta fram nya idéer som kan få ungdomar och unga vuxna mellan 15-30år att bli mer motiverad till att återvinna matavfall. Rapporten har tagit stöd av innovationsteorier samt tidigare forskningar. Den empiriska delen för rapporten grundar sig på personlig intervju med Reiner Schulz som är verksamhetsansvarig för avfallshanteringsenheten på Eskilstuna Energi & Miljö. Vidare har kvalitativa undersökningar med åtta respondenter i åldrarna mellan 15-30år genomförts varav av fyra tjejer och fyra killar. Valet av Eskilstuna Energi & Miljö är på grund av att jag under min högskolestudie tid har arbetat där som informatör och har därför kännedom om företaget. Vidare är valet av ungdomar i Eskilstuna ett bekvämlighetsurval eftersom dessa personer är arbetskollegor och även inom min vänkrets. Innovationsbidragen som presenteras i rapporten är en applikation till smartphones och en utvecklad matavfallspåse som innehåller information om källsortering för matavfall. Dessa två idéer har jag har tagit fram med hjälp av den enkla innovationsmodellen GSI som är framtagen av Bessant & Tidd (2007). Detta för att generera, sedan välja ut de potentiella idéerna och sist men inte minst att implementera de idéerna som har uppkommit ur min undersökning.

This thesis addresses two research gaps: the gap of how to operationalize resilience in an urban context, and the gap on empirical studies of the relationship between resilience and sustainable development. I have approached these gaps by entering the emerging field of interdisciplinary research linking planning and resilience in a study of the process of preparing a resilience assessment for the semi-urban municipality of Eskilstuna in Sweden (2012–13). In order to capture in-depth data, I have conducted participant observation of the resilience assessment process, semi-structured interviews with the organizers at the municipality, as well as key participants from other departments, a review of the official municipal documents and a survey to the workshop participants. My findings show that resilience thinking helped frame the previously overlooked threats of a future triple crises, and bridge the short-term crisis management and the longer-term planning for sustainable development at the municipality. The idea of complex adaptive systems introduced a new perspective for sustainable development in the municipality, which practitioners thought was useful for providing new arguments to hinder slowly degrading trends, as well as clarifying the picture of a sustainable society.

This project will give Eskilstuna residents a place to be and practice sports and cultural activities along the river. The project is a renovation of an old factory that gets a new identity and that continues to be an asset to the city and its people. The project was based on the autumn's analysis of the place where the Eskilstuna suburbs' young people's opportunity to meet and practice sports and culture were narrow. This project has become a supplement to enrich young people's everyday lives and leisure time and bridge socio-economic challenges. By making a fantastic place available and offering space for creativity and recreation, the building is reopened to the public. The square that previously existed is recreated to open up to the water and creates a place to rest. In the culture and sports center, there are workshops where young people have access to clay, textile, steel and wood workshops. A sports hall has been created in the northern house volume with open galleries from different floors to open up and make the sport accessible to those who can not participate physically. The building is initially over dimensioned with a concrete and column system and allows it to be rebuilt and allows future changes, which provides incentives to renovate and preserve as much of the existing building as possible. The project has been developed with small changes that generate great values for the everyone. A necessary vertical solution was designed in the form of a light shaft. The building is for everyone and for everyone's equal value to have access to beautiful places, culture, sports and a leisure time without requirements. / Detta projekt ska ge Eskilstunabor, huvudsakligen ungdomar, en plats att vara på och utöva sport- och kulturaktiviteter längs med ån och mötas. Projektet är en renovering av en nedlagd fabrik som får en ny identitet och som fortsatt får vara en tillgång till staden och dess befolkning. Projektet tog avstamp i höstens analys av platsen där Eskilstuna förorters ungdomars möjlighet till att mötas och utan krav utöva sport- och kultur är snäva. Detta projekt har kommit att bli ett tillägg för att berika ungdomars vardag och fritid samt överbrygga socioekonomiska utmaningar. Genom att tillgängliggöra en fantastisk plats och erbjuda plats för kreativitet och rekreation öppnas byggnaden upp igen för offentligheten. Det torg som tidigare funnits återskapas för att öppna upp mot vattnet och skapar en plats att uppehålla sig på kravlöst. I kultur- och sportcentret finns det verkstäder där ungdomar får tillgång till ler, textil, stål- och träverkstad. En idrottshall har skapats i den nordliga huskroppen med öppna gallerier från olika våningsplan för att öppna upp och göra sporten tillgänglig för de som inte kan delta fysiskt. Byggnaden är från början överdimensionerad med ett tätt betong- och pelarsystem för att kunna byggas om och tillåter framtida funktionsförändringar vilket ger incitament till att renovera och bevara så mycket i byggnaden som möjligt. Projektet har tagits fram med små medel som genererar stora värden för den lilla och stora människan. En nödvändig vertikal lösning i den nordliga huskroppen utformades i form av en ljusschakt. Byggnaden är till för alla och för allas lika värde att få tillgång till vackra platser, kultur, sport och en fritid utan krav.

Skeppartorp Film - Peoples House is a cinema situated along the canal in the city of Torshälla just north of Eskilstuna. The city has 10 000 inhabitants and is currently lacking a cinema. The building has three auditoriums with 96, 52 and 40 seats where the larger auditorium also can be used for theater. There is also an open outdoor cinema on the ground floor. Except for the auditoriums there are studios for film and foto that can be used by both amateurs and professionals. Next to the studios there is an exhibition area with screens where studio creations can be viewed. This area is passed by visitors before they enter an auditorium. The building consists of wood and concrete and has a copper facade on the two upper floors. / Skeppartorp Film - Folkets hus är en biograf placerad längs kanalen i staden Torshälla strax norr om Eskilstuna. Staden har 10 000 invånare och saknar i nuläget biograf. Byggnaden har tre salonger om 96, 52 respektive 40 sittplatser där den större salongen även kan användas för teater. På markplan finns också en öppen utomhusbiograf. Utöver biosalongerna erbjuder byggnaden tre studiolokaler för kreativt arbete inom film och foto för både amatörer och professionella. I anslutning till dessa finns en utställningsyta med bildskärmar där det som skapas i studiolokalerna kan visas upp. Denna yta passeras dessutom av biobesökare med syfte att uppehålla människor i byggnaden. Byggnaden har en stomme i trä och betong och har på de två övre planen en fasad i koppar.

The small town of Kvicksund is beautifully located next to lake Mälaren with good communication by boat, train, and car. Today there are around 3,000 people who live here, most of them families with children living in villas. Kvicksund has been pointed out by Eskilstuna municipality as suitable for further exploitation and new dwellings is expected to be built in the immediate area in the future. At the same time, the area lacks a hub where people can gather and hang out, something that has become clear through the dialogue with the residents of Kvicksund that took place during the autumn project. Today's ICA store with associated parking is simply not enough. To that end, I have developed a proposal for a marina where the residents in the immediate area together with others in the region can gather. The site for my project is a beach plot next to the Kvicksund bridge which is currently used by the local boat club. The ground slopes slightly towards the shoreline in the north where a pier extends towards the fairway. The new marina is partly located on today's land and partly on new excavated mass and orients itself towards the afternoon sun and the view to the west. A large wooden deck is built around the house body, which together with the house facade creates a courtyard.

The Degree project consists of two parts. The first is a tool to make it easier and quicker to visualize 2d drawings in 3d. The second part is an Art Center with workshops and housing, partly designed with the tool.  Peter Märkli speaks of the language of architecture. Which parts exist and how do you combine them?  The tool I’ve created is called Façade-o-bot and is a piece of Grasshopper code for Rhino that makes a 3d model out of 2d drawings of elements of your building.  In a sequence in the movie Memory & Imagination: New Pathways to the Library of Congress Steve Jobs talks about the role of the computer for learning and humans as creators of tools. He talks about an article which argues that the animal on earth that requires the least amount of energy to move is the concord and that humans end up pretty far down the list. That is until you compare with a human on a bicycle, then she easily beats the concord. He describes the computer as a bicycle for the mind.  This project is about bicycles for the architect mind. / Projektet består av två delar. Ett verktyg för att underlätta visualisering av arkitektur och en konsthall med studentlägenheter för konsthantverkare som är formgiven med hjälp av programmet.  Peter Märkli pratar om arkitekturens språk. Vilka är bitarna och hur sitter de ihop. I mitt projekt vill jag utforska det i ett kontext av digitala verktyg. Båda de verktyg som redan finns men också jobba med att utveckla egna. Hur kan man underlätta utformandet och planerandet av byggnader genom att skapa egna digitala verktyg? Jag har jobbat på ett program som jag kallar Fasadobot, en bit Grasshopper-kod som jag har skrivit till Rhino som bygger upp en byggnad i 3d efter en 2d ritning. I en sekvens i filmen Memory & Imagination: New Pathways to the Library of Congress pratar Steve Jobs om datorns roll för inlärning och om människan som en skapare av verktyg. Han berättar att han har läst att det djur på jorden som kräver minst energi för att förflytta sig är concorden och att människan i en sådan lista hamnar ganska långt ner. Tills dess att man jämför en människa på en cykel, då slår hon concorden med lätthet. Han beskriver datorn som “a bicyle for the mind”. Vi använder redan datorn som en cykel för hjärnan, jag är intresserad av hur vi kan göra ännu mer.

Torshälla is located about 7 km north of central Eskilstuna. Since the 19th century, there has been a major steel industry at Nyby mill. Due to its location in direct connection to the city, the mill came to influence the city's development, through a large influx of mill workers during the years up to the 1970s. Many of the factory workers who moved in came from Finland and as a result the town today has a large Swedish-Finnish population. Since 2002, the plant at Nyby Mill has been part of the Finnish group Outokumpu Oyj, which manufactures stainless steel products. After research, I came to the conclusion that Torshälla's steel industry is an important node for the town. The industry is a big employer and something you are proud of. Outokumpu steel industry releases, against the wishes of the Swedish Board of Fisheries and the County Administrative Board, nickel, chromium and nitrogen in adjacent watercourses and nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, dust and carbon dioxide from fossil fuels into the air, and has previously also caused emissions of environmentally hazardous oil emulsion in Nybyån. For the industrial area, a remediation measure of land and water is designed as a first step in restoring the area after 200 years of industry. The remediation is carried out with the help of phytoremediation (remediation with plants), which is both a cheaper and more environmentally friendly alternative than excavating contaminated pulp and transporting it to a landfill. The entire decontamination process takes place on site, planting, incineration and extraction of heavy metals. Although the steel industry is a pride for Torshälla as a town, the industry does not offer direct insight into the process on site, the area is today fenced and not accessible to outsiders. My People's House will offer an insight into the process with an educational purpose, which both children and adults can take part in. / Torshälla ligger beläget cirka 7 km norr om centrala Eskilstuna och är en historisk handels- och hantverkstad. Sedan 1800-talet finns även en större stålindustri vid Nyby bruk. Genom sitt läge i direkt anslutning till staden kom bruket att påverka stadens utveckling, genom en stor inflyttning av bruksarbetare under åren fram till 1970-talet. Av de inflyttade bruksarbetarna kom många från Finland och som ett resultat av detta har orten idag en stor sverigefinsk befolkning. Sedan 2002 ingår verket vid Nyby bruk i den finska koncernen Outokumpu Oyj som tillverkar rostfria stålprodukter. Efter undersökningar kom jag fram till att Torshällas stålindustri är en viktig nod för orten. Industrin är en stor arbetsgivare och något man är stolt över. Outokumpu stålindustri släpper, mot Fiskeriverkets och Länsstyrelsens önskan, ut nickel, krom och kväve i intilliggande vattendrag samt kvävedioxid, svaveldioxid, stoft och koldioxid från fossila bränslen i luften, och har tidigare även orsakat utsläpp av miljöfarlig oljeemulsion i Nybyån. För industriområdet utformas en saneringsåtgärd av mark och vatten som ett första steg i att återställa området efter 200 år av industri. Saneringen genomförs med hjälp av fytoremediation (sanering med växter), vilket är både ett billigare och miljövänligare alternativ än att schakta bort förorenad massa och transportera till en deponi. Hela saneringsprocessen sker på plats, plantering, förbränning och utvinning av tungmetaller.  Trots att stålindustrin är en stolthet för Torshälla som ort, erbjuder industrin ingen direkt insyn i processen på plats, området är idag inhängnat och ej tillgängligt för utomstående. Mitt folkets hus kommer erbjuda en insikt i processen med ett utbildande syfte, som både barn och vuxna kan ta del av.

The central part of my project is its brewery. This is the first thing you see when entering the building and the opening in the brewery’s roof offers a visual connection between the two floors of the building. Beer from the brewery is served in the restaurant. There are a variety of seating possibilities, inside, outside or up on the second floor. The inside of the first floor offers a cozy basement-like environment with brick walls ant a relatively low ceiling. Outside there’s a terrace with views of the Eskilstuna river in every direction. On the second floor there are rooms with possibility of seating groups, for example for beer tastings.The building is built of brick. The intention is to use recycled bricks and to assemble it in suck a way as to make it easier to dismantle for future recycling. This can be achieved by using weaker mortar that is possible to clean off without damaging the brick. The building is placed at the Eskilstuna river at the edge of the water. This is partially to offer the views of the river but the river’s water can also be used for cooling in the brewing process. / Mitt projekts centrala del är dess bryggeri. Det är det första du ser när du kommer innanför dörren och öppningen i bryggeriets tak erbjuder en visuell koppling mellan byggnadens två våningar. Öl från bryggeriet erbjuds i serveringen/restaurangen. Det finns en variation av sittningsmöjligheter, inne, ute eller uppe. Inne på undervåningen erbjuds en mysigt källarlik miljö med teglade väggar och relativt låg takhöjd. Ute finns en terrass med utsikt över Eskilstunaån i alla riktningar. På övervåningen finns lokaler med möjlighet att sitta grupper för exempelvis ölsmakning. Byggnaden är uppbyggd med en tegelstomme. Avsikten är att använda återbrukat tegel och att bygga den på ett sätt som underlättar nedmontering av teglet för att underlätta framtida återbruk. Detta genom användning av svagare bruk som går att rensa från teglet utan att teglet själv går sönder. Byggnaden är placerad vid Eskilstunaån precis invid vattnet. Detta delvis för utsikten som ån erbjuder men vattnet kan även användas till nedkylning i bryggprocessen.

The project, a hybrid between a community house and a center for horse led therapy, is designed with the intention of exploring the classic barn typology and modernizing a classical timber technique called bole house or post-and-plank. The building is situated in the northernmost part of the land belonging to Stora Sundby Castle and lies near Alberga city center. Alberga is a small town about 30 minutes southwest of Eskilstuna, with close ties to several bigger cities in Mälardalen like Västerås, Strängnäs, and Kungsör. The building is structured around three functions: therapy, socializing, and experiencing nature and animals. The horse-led therapy, HUI, is located in the east wing and houses rooms that allow the therapist to utilize horses and riding in their practice. The two remaining functions take up the rest of the building, with a variety of social spaces and meeting rooms oriented towards the beautiful forest that the house borders. / Projektet, en hybrid mellan folkets hus och ett center för hästunderstödd terapi, är designat med intentionen att dels utforska den klassiska ladutypologin men också modernisera skiftesverk som är en gammal timmermetod. Byggnaden ligger i den norra delen av slottet Stora Sundbys mark i nära anslutning till Alberga centrum. Alberga är en mindre tätort cirka 30 minuter sydväst om Eskilstuna med nära geografisk koppling till flera större städer i Mälardalen som Västerås, Strängnäs och Kungsör. Byggnaden är strukturerad kring tre huvudfunktioner: terapi, möten och socialisering samt en naturnära upplevelse med hästen i fokus. Den hästunderstödda terapin, HUI, har sin verksamhet i den östra delen av byggnaden och huserar rum som tillåter terapeuten att använda sig av hästar och ridning i sin behandling. De två resterande funktionerna är utspridda i resten av byggnaden med en variation av rum som alla är orienterade mot den närliggande skogen och hästhagarna och är ämnade sociala sammankomster.
