Kvicksund can attract with exceptional proximity to Lake Mälaren with its long shorelines. Even so, access is still beyond the reach of most people. Just to the south of Kvicksundsbron, below the train station and in the heart of the community, I have therefore chosen to place my project. The existing boat club will have its operations upgraded: New winter storage options for approximately 75 boats.  2. A new workshop with dedicated places for maintenance of leisure boats. 3. Conference rooms, office spaces, café and kitchen 4. Roof terraces, parking facilities, playgrounds and outdoor gyms where boats are stored in the winter. The main grip in the design is based on modules. 1. 6500 x 10500 prefabricated concrete modules from the neighboring "Abetong". Scaffolding for winter storage of boats of the same dimensions. These are combined in a dynamic and space-saving way. The building is transformed twice a year into something completely different. / Kvicksund kan locka med exceptionell närhet till Mälaren med sina långa strandlinjer. Även om det är så finns det få ställen det är allmän tillgång till.  Precis til söder om Kvicksundsbron, nedanför tågstationen och i hjärtat av samhället har jag därför valt att placera mitt projekt.  Den befintliga båtklubben ska få sin verksamhetuppgraderad:  1. Nya vinter lagringsmöjligheter för ungefär 75 båtar! 2. En ny verkstad med dedikerade platser för underhåll av fritidsbåtar. 3. Konferensrum, kontorslokaler, café och kök 4. Takterrasser, parkeringsmöjligheter, lekplatser och utegym, där man på vintern lagrar båtar.   Huvudgreppet i gestaltningen baserar sig moduler. 1. 6500 x 10500 prefabricerade betongmoduler från grannarna "Abetong". 2. Ställningar för vinterlagring av båtar i samma dimensioner. Dessa kombineras på ett dynamiskt och platssparande sätt. Byggnaden omvandlas två gånger i året till något helt annat.

The small town of Kvicksund is beautifully located next to lake Mälaren with good communication by boat, train, and car. Today there are around 3,000 people who live here, most of them families with children living in villas. Kvicksund has been pointed out by Eskilstuna municipality as suitable for further exploitation and new dwellings is expected to be built in the immediate area in the future. At the same time, the area lacks a hub where people can gather and hang out, something that has become clear through the dialogue with the residents of Kvicksund that took place during the autumn project. Today's ICA store with associated parking is simply not enough. To that end, I have developed a proposal for a marina where the residents in the immediate area together with others in the region can gather. The site for my project is a beach plot next to the Kvicksund bridge which is currently used by the local boat club. The ground slopes slightly towards the shoreline in the north where a pier extends towards the fairway. The new marina is partly located on today's land and partly on new excavated mass and orients itself towards the afternoon sun and the view to the west. A large wooden deck is built around the house body, which together with the house facade creates a courtyard.

The project is about how a red machine has landed in a wooden structure. The machine is supposed to bring activity to a bored city. The youth centre & culture centre is supposed to work together to create a hybrid building. / Röda maskinen är en ungdomsgård i Kombination med ett kulturhus. Projektet handlar om hur en röd maskin har landat i en rastlös ort för att skapa aktivitet för befolkningen. Platsen som den röda maskinen har landat på är en liten udde intill tågstationen i Kvicksund, en liten stad nordväst om Eskilstuna centrum. Tidigare har denna plats fungerat som ett båtvarv, där boende i orten har kunnat förvara sina båtar i små träskjul.  Den röda maskinen omges av en pelarstruktur i trä som är inspirerad av de små båtskjulen på platsen. den övre delen av trästrukturen är täckt i kanalplast som ska fungera som en blinkning till båtskjulens pressening.  Byggnaden består alltså av två delar: Den inre röda strukturen som bestämmer husets aktivitet/rörelse, och den yttre trästrukturen som skapar de hybrida rummen utanför aktivitetsmaskinen. De två delarna samverkar för att skapa en hybrid byggnad.

Kvicksund is located in north west Eskilstuna and is an area with very unique conditions. It's an area that is both divided by the lake Mälaren but also by two municipalities: Västerås in the north and Eskilstuna in the south. In this area you are surrounded by nature while still having access to communications such as trains. My proposal is to build a nursing home in Kvicksund, combined with both a preeschool and café to form a "Meeting point". The building is located near the center for the area with close proximity to the coast and the train station. By connecting the nursing home to a public building the public space is made available to those who have the most difficulty to reach it. Having elders not become isolated is very important and by activating the brain with different activities and new meetings the risk of dementia decrease. In the building there are three departments: one for people with dementia and two somatic departments. There's also a large dining room, living room, exercise room and multiple large courtyards located in and around the building. In the public area of the building there's an open preschool, a café and several common rooms. The building is organized in a way so that the nursing home has one side of the building and the preschool and the cafe have the other.  The two sides are connected by the common areas, this is to simplify different activities between the two sides. The preschool is the only one with a second story and the rest of the building is one story. It's design to be as accessible as possible and create a feeling of independence in the elderly as they can reach all premises without assistance. Personally, I have always gotten an anxious feeling at the thought of a home for the elderly and that is precisely my reason for designing one. This is not a place to skimp on and it is not a place for people to be hidden away in. This is a place which should be full of activities, joy and life! / Kvicksund ligger I nordvästra Eskilstuna och är ett område med väldigt unika förhållanden. Det är en plats som både delas av Mälaren men även mellan två kommuner: Västerås I norr och Eskilstuna I söder. Här finns både närhet till natur men även bra tillgänglighet I form av en egen tågstation.  Mitt förslag är att bygga ett äldreboende I Kvicksund med tillhörande ”mötescentrum”. Byggnaden är placerad centralt I området med närhet till kusten, det som idag är centrum och tågstationen. Genom att koppla äldreboendet till en offentlig byggnad tillgängliggör man det offentliga rummet för de som har det svårast att nå det. Att inte bli isolerad som äldre är väldigt viktigt och genom att aktivera hjärnan med olika aktiviteter och nya möten minskas risken för demenssjukdomar. I byggnaden placeras en demensavdelning och två somatiska avdelningar med stor matsal, vardagsrum, motionsrum och stora innergårdar. I den offentliga delen finns en öppen förskola, caféverksamhet samt ett flertal gemensamma rum. Byggnaden organiseras på det vis att äldreboendet har ena sida och förskolan och caféverksamheten har den andra. Mellan dem placeras de gemensamma ytorna för att förenkla olika gemensamma aktiviteter mellan verksamheterna. Endast förskolan har en övervåning och resten av byggnaden är I enplan. Allt för att göra den så tillgänglig som möjligt och skapa en känsla av självständighet hos de äldre då de kan nå alla lokaler utan assistans. Personligen har jag alltid fått en ängslig känsla vid tanken på äldreboenden och det är just därför jag valt att gestalta ett. Detta är inte en plats att snåla på och inte heller en plats som ska skuffas undan. Här ska det vara fullt av aktiviteter, glädje och liv!

The aim of this project was to develop a public hybrid building in the countryside of Eskilstuna and create an active meeting place that is open to the public. Kvicksund is a town in the northern part of Esklistuna and is the chosen area for this project. Kvicksund Sports and Cultural Center is a multi-facility for both sports and culture. There is already a large sports ground with several football fields and a large golf course in that area. These outdoor activities are complemented by the new indoor activities and create a non-commercial meeting place combined with leisure facitilies, exhibition opportunities, a restaurant and a café. This type of a grand meeting place can contribute to improved social sustainability in Kvicksund. / Målet med detta projekt var att utveckla en offentlig hybridbyggnad i Eskilstunas landsbygd och skapa en aktiv mötesplats som är öppen för allmänheten. Kvicksund är en ort i den norra delen av Esklistuna kommun och är det valda området för detta projekt. Kvicksund Idrotts– och Kulturhus är en multianläggning för både idrott och kultur. I området finns redan en stor idrottsplats med ett flertal fotbollsplan samt en stor golfbana. Dessa utomhusaktiviteter kompletteras med de nya inomhusaktiviteterna och skapar en icke-kommersiell mötesplats kombinerad med fritidslokaler, utställningsmöjligheter, restaurang och café. En sådan större mötesplats kan bidra till en förbättrad social hållbarhet i Kvicksund.

Kvicksund's marine biological community house is located in northern Eskilstuna right by Lake Mälaren. At the first design, I added a ferry connection and a promenade that connects the north side of Kvicksund with the south. In the "center" is a train station for the Mälaren train that runs through all major cities around Lake Mälaren. Thanks to the accessibility, we angled Kvicksund to a student city and developed student housing next to the station.The house has been inspired by the culture house and Fiskebäckskil's "Kristineberg". Kulturhuset gives passers-by the opportunity to see all the activity through the large windows. I think it is suitable for a house with life and chose to lay many of the active rooms against the facade. At the same time, the upper floor became a place for experience. The vision is that there should be life and movement on the lower level and the quiet calm on the upper.The research that is conducted is focused on Lake Mälaren and marine biology. To include the residents, the plus program has niched itself in citizen research. This means that researchers take help from the public and school classes to get help with large-scale sampling, which can otherwise be difficult for a small team. Citizen research also helps to inform outsiders about research and why it is important. In this case, it is an attempt to teach children, school classes and residents about the importance of taking care of Lake Mälaren and how to do it.Apart from the fact that Lake Mälaren is in need of environmental improvement, there are also invasive species, including the Mussel. Research showed that it and many of our own mussels thrive in the area around Kvicksund. Therefore, the project has also had as a side track to mark zones for where these different mussels are located and where the researchers were sold can go by boat to look more at the mussels.At the same time, it was important that the house could offer students and residents something more than just research. The house therefore has a library, a restaurant and large areas for exhibitions. These surfaces are also used for the aquariums required to take care of the samples from the marine environment. The house is therefore filled with an aquarium that school classes / researchers can use and visitors can look at. You can also get involved in research by following out on field studies and learning more about Lake Mälaren. / Kvicksunds marinbiologiska folkets hus ligger i norra Eskilstuna precis vid Mälaren. Vid första utformningen lade jag till en färjeförbindelse samt en strandpromenad som binder samman den norra sidan av Kvicksund med södra. I ”centrum” ligger en tågstation för Mälartåget som går genom alla stora städer runt Mälaren. Tack vare tillgängligheten vinklade vi Kvicksund till en studentstad och utvecklade studentbostäder intill stationen. Huset har inspirerats av kulturhuset och Fiskebäckskils ”Kristineberg”. Kulturhuset ger förbipasserande möjlighet att kunna se all aktivitet genom de stora fönstren. Jag tycker det är passande för ett hus med liv och valde att lägga många av de aktiva rummen mot fasad. Samtidigt blev den övre våningen en plats för upplevelse. Visionen är att det ska vara liv och rörelse på det nedre planet och det stillsamma lugnet på det övre. Forskningen som bedrivs är fokuserad på Mälaren och marinbiologi. För att inkludera de boende har plusprogrammet nischat in sig på medborgarforskning. Det innebär att forskare tar hjälp av allmänheten och då oftast skolklasser för att få hjälp med storskalig provtagning som annars kan vara svårt för ett litet team. Medborgarforskning hjälper också till att upplysa utomstående om forskning och varför den är viktig. I det här fallet är det ett försök till att lära barn, skolklasser och boende om vikten vid att ta hand om Mälaren samt hur man kan göra det.Bortsett från att Mälaren är i behov av miljöförbättring så finns också invasiva arter, däribland Vandrarmusslan. Vid efterforskning visade sig att den och samt många av våra egna musslor trivs bra i området runt Kvicksund. Därför har också projektet haft som sidospår att märka ut zoner för var dessa olika musslor håller till och vart forskarna såldes kan ta sig med båt för att titta mer på musslorna. Samtidigt var det viktigt att huset skulle kunna erbjuda studenter och boende något mer än enbart forskning. Huset fick därför ett bibliotek, en restaurang och stora ytor för utställningar. Dessa ytor används dessutom till de akvarium som krävs för att ta hand om proverna från den marina miljön. Huset är därför fyllt av akvarium som skolklasser/forskare kan använda och besökare titta på. Du kan också engagera dig i forskningen genom att följa med ut på fältstudier och lära dig mer om Mälaren.

By using already available resources, you not only think sustainably, but at the same time increase the value of the existing. Kvicksund in Eskilstuna is today a place that lacks commercial and cultural service. The idea of having to fetch something from the outside to increase site value is not the only solution, but the chance of reusing the  existing resources is still possible. The goal is to create a type of gathering place to bring Kvicksund's three generations together and reduce segregation between the ages. Today the primary age group consist of people between 55-85 years old. Even when this population is not considered to contribute to a beneficial function for the society, these people have a wealth of knowledge, knowledge that can be used. However, there is a number of shortcomings amongst this targeted group, such as a lack of knowledge in the technological era that we today rely so heavily on. When it comes to the younger generation (11-16 years of age), there are also strengths and weaknesses in knowledge, but in different fields. The young people's modern knowledge is in direct contrast to the older generation. We have two age groups who both have what the other lacks. The concept for this project is to create a education center for all generations, an "All-Aged" School, where the older and younger take part educating each other from their strengths and weaknesses. For example, there can be a retired math teacher who holds courses for school students, while the young people guide the elderly through the internet, social media, physical activity, etc. / Genom att använda sig av redan tillgängliga resurser tänker man inte bara hållbart, utan man höjer samtidigt värdet av det befintliga. Kvicksund i Eskilstuna är idag en plats som saknar kommersiell och kulturell service. Tanken med att behöva hämta något utomstående för att höja platsen värde är inte den enda lösningen, utan chansen för redan befintliga resurser är möjligt.  Målet är att skapa en samlingsplats för att föra samman Kvicksunds tre generationer och minska segregationen mellan åldersgrupperna. I dagsläget ligger den primära åldersgruppen i Kvicksund mellan åldrarna 55-85 år. Även då denna befolkning inte anses bidra med en gynnande funktion för samhället sitter dessa människor på mänger av kunskap, kunskap som kan nyttjas. De finns dock ett flertal brister bland denna målgrupp, exempelvis kunskap inom den teknologiska eran värden idag förlitar sig på. När det kommer till den yngre generationen (11-16 års ålder), ligger även här styrkor och svagheter inom kunskap, dock inom olika fält. Ungdomarnas moderna kunskaper ligger i direkt kontrast till den äldre generationens. Vi har två åldersgrupper som båda har det den andre saknar.  Konceptet för detta projekt är att skapa ett studiecenter för alla generationer, en ”All-Aged” School, där de äldre och yngre tar del av varandras styrkor och svagheter. Det kan exempelvis vara en pensionerad mattelärare som håller kurser för skoleleverna, medan ungdomarna vägleder de äldre genom internet, sociala medier, fysisk aktivitet, m.m.
