January 2006 (has links)
Abstract: This study present the importance of facial profile analysis in diagnosis, treatment planning and prognostic of Orthodontic cases. Because of the subjective concepts of beauty and the number of facial types, it is difficult to select a reference pattern of facial attractiveness. Although the subjective view is important and influence decisions, other aspects of facial esthetics contribute with more objectivity in the assessments. This study focused some of these aspects: a) a sample of 120 individuals, of both genders, between 8 and 23 years old, were randomly selected in the city of João Pessoa, Paraíba. c) photographies of 120 facial profiles were assessed by a panel composed by specialists and lay people, to assess the influence of subjective values in facial attractiveness. Some of the results presented: a) the measurements found with the caliper were highly influenced by the nose; b) this influence was higher in the horizontal than vertical measurements; c) a difference between gender and age was found; d) an increasement of growth pattern was found in males than in females; e) the differences between genders were more evident in older individuals of the sample. f) the male profiles were more convex than the female profiles; g) the concordance intra and inter examiner were not high; h) maxillae and mandibular aspects were easily assessed; j) aspects of facial and dentoalveolar height were most difficult to assess; k) the facial caliper was coherent with the functional purpose. / Doutor

Carlzon, Paula, Olsson, Sanna January 2013 (has links)

The art of healing : psychoanalysis, culture and cure

Kellond, Joanna Elizabeth Thornton January 2015 (has links)
This thesis explores how we might think the relation between psychoanalysis and the cultural field through Donald Winnicott's concept of the environment, seeking to bring the concept into dialogue with more “classical” strands of psychoanalytic theorizing. A substantial introduction sets out the rationale behind the thesis by reading Freud and Winnicott in relation to the “classic” and the “romantic” (Strenger 1989), or the “negative” and “positive” (Rustin 2001), in psychoanalytic thought. It goes on to outline the value of bringing these tendencies together in order to think the relationship between psychoanalysis, culture and change. The chapters which follow move from psychoanalysis as a “cultural cure” – a method and discourse drawing on and feeding into a broad conception of cultural life – towards a notion of “culture as cure” informed by Winnicott's theory of the environment. Chapter one examines Freud's refusal of the “culture”/ “civilization” distinction and considers what it means for the idea of a cultural cure. Chapter two considers whether Winnicott's thinking about “culture” ultimately prioritises the aesthetic over the political. Chapter three uses Aldous Huxley's Brave New World ([1932] 1994) to explore an analogy between totalitarianism, technology and maternal care. Chapter four turns to the series In Treatment (HBO 2008-) to think about the intersections of therapy and technology in terms of reflection and recognition. Chapter five employs Ian McEwan's Saturday (2005) as a means to reflect on the capacity of culture to cure. Ultimately, I suggest that social “cure” may require more than “good-enough” cultural forms and objects, but Winnicott's “romantic” theorization of the aesthetic, coupled with a “classic” attention to structures of power and oppression may offer a means of thinking the relationship between psychoanalysis and culture in potentially transformative ways.

Alencar Filho, Fernando Luiz. January 2016 (has links)
Abstract: In Vom Musikalisch-Schönen, Hanslick dwells on a detailed analysis of what is beautiful in music. To this end, before expressing it, the author criticizes the loss of autonomy of music that was widely verified in his time. The aforementioned loss of autonomy was evidenced by the prevailing aesthetic fruition, which was translated as a mere turning to the feelings and "images" supposedly aroused and represented by music. To this particular kind of aesthetic fruition Hanslick calls the pathological fruition, since such a kind of enjoyment privileges something other than exclusively the relation and concatenation between sounds. Meanwhile, in his later years of philosophical activity and particularly with Der Fall Wagner, Nietzsche presents us with an exceptionally original and thorough analysis of the Wagnerian procedure in music, identifying it with what he conceptualized as artistic décadence, being this mere symptom of another primordial species of décadence, namely, physiological. The present work aspires to establish a firm point of contact between the pathological fruition as Hanslick understands it and the concept of décadence in its completeness. Moreover, it is intended, through the perspective of décadence, to establish the primary cause of the pathological fruition diagnosed by Eduard Hanslick. / Mestre

January 2009 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: The dental bleaching has been used by many professionals which believe to be a safe and effective treatment. However, to accelerate the bleaching process, the use of peroxide in high concentrations has been associated with heat or light sources. The combination of highly concentrated bleaching materials with light sources, raises the temperature of the tooth structure and penetration of peroxide which may cause pulpal damage. Thus, the real benefits and the biological consequences of this treatment are still largely unknown. Objectives: to compare the effectiveness, color stability and sensitivity occurred in patients who received at-home and in-office bleaching treatments, with or without the use of light sources. Methods: 40 patients were selected and randomly divided into four groups, according to bleaching treatment received: I- home-bleaching with 10% carbamide peroxide (CP) 4 hours/day for 3 weeks; the other three groups received 3 sessions of in-office bleaching with 35% hydrogen peroxide (HP), with 3 applications of 10 minutes in each session, as follows: II- without light source, IIIHalogen Lamp, IV-LED/laser. Tooth shade was evaluated using the Vita Classical Shade Guide before bleaching, after first and third week of at-home bleaching, after first and third session of in-office bleaching; after 1 week, 1 and 6 months after the end of the treatment. The teeth color was evaluated using the Classical Shade Guide, and the occurrence of sensitivity was obtained by questionnaire made to patients, who reported the intensity, duration and location of symptoms. The evaluations were conducted before the bleaching, after the first and third week of bleaching with PC or first and third sessions of PH and 7, 30 and 180 days after the end of treatment. Results: The Kruskal-Wallis test showed no significant differences among groups at all times (p>0.01), and there was no color rebound...
