The Effects of Maternal Employment Status on the Evening Meals of Adolescents

Hebert, Karen A. Fleischman (Karen Ann Fleischman) 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine whether maternal employment contributed to the general inadequacy of the adolescent's evening meal, and to examine the attitudes of adolescents regarding the mother's role in evening meal preparation. A questionnaire was administered to 1180 high school students in a suburban area of Dallas-Ft.Worth in May, 1987. The hypotheses were tested using Chi square, Pearson product moment correlation, and Anova. Results indicated that maternal employment affects adolescent evening meals in the number of meals offered per week, fully prepared by mother, and eaten away from home. The amount of adolescent participation in meal preparation was higher for the employed group. Attitudes are different between the sexes and those with employed and unemployed mothers.

Evening Tabloids : Enhancing Brand Equity Through Extensions in Alternative Media Channels

Kollander, Staffan, Lejon, Carl January 2007 (has links)

Introduction: The evening tabloids in Sweden have been going through a change towards moving into alternative media channels during the last decades. It is essential to capitalize on the evening tabloids strong brands in order to enhance growth and to stay in the top of the tough competition. Advertising has become of larger importance for Aftonbladet and Expressen since the move into alternative media channels. People tend to be increasingly interested in free news media and one of the most essential issues that Aftonbladet and Expressen are facing is how to increase its brand equity through entering alternative media channels.

Purpose: To research and analyze the development of Aftonbladet’s and Expressen’s brand equity in terms of brand extensions and establishments in alternative media channels.

Method: To fulfill the purpose the authors have conducted a quantitative study with a standardized questionnaire. The sample consists of 100 respondents between 19-24 years of age who have been contacted at Jönköping University, A6 shopping mall in Jönköping and at the city centre of Jönköping.

Results: The study revealed that this group has an extremely low purchasing rate of the actual hard copy. Although the awareness of the brands Aftonbladet and Expressen are solid in their mind set. Instead it is of greater importance for this group what type of extra services and activities that is provided online. The researched target group is attracted by customized and accessible information which are of high quality and is distributed without any additional cost. Aftonbladet has developed a more efficient strategy in terms of brand extensions than Expressen in order to enhance its brand equity.

The Role of Thermospheric Neutral Winds in the Mid-latitude Ionospheric Evening Anomalies

Lomidze, Levan 01 May 2015 (has links)
One of the intriguing features of the F-region ionosphere are anomalous evening enhancements of the electron density over certain mid-latitude sites. The most prominent example of this enhancement is the Weddell Sea Anomaly. Although the evening anomalies have been known for several decades, their generation mechanisms are still under debate and their accurate modeling remains a challenge. In this dissertation, the role of thermospheric neutral winds in the generation of these anomalies is investigated. Thermospheric winds play an important role in the dynamics of the F-region ionosphere, and, as it will be shown, in the generation of the evening anomalies. However, to date, their reliable estimation remains a challenge. To mitigate this shortcoming, data assimilation models were employed. First, seasonal global maps of F-region peak parameters (NmF2 and hmF2) from COSMIC radio occultation measurements were assimilated into the Global Assimilation of Ionospheric Measurements Full Physics (GAIM-FP) model. The model estimates magnetic meridional winds at low and mid-latitudes. GAIM-FP estimated winds were shown to be in good agreement with independent ground-based wind observations. Next, in order to address the role of neutral wind components in the generation of anomalies, a separate, 3-D physics-based Thermosphere Wind Assimilation Model (TWAM) was developed. TWAM is based on an implicit Kalman filter technique, and combines GAIM-FP magnetic meridional wind data with the equation of motion of the neutral gas to provide the climatology of the thermospheric wind components. The neutral wind components estimated by TWAM were also found to be in close quantitative agreement with independent ground-based wind observations, and were shown to accurately reproduce NmF2 and hmF2 over the anomalies. To understand the physical mechanism behind the anomalies, the plasma production, loss, and transport processes were analyzed. It was found that, due to the action of the equatorward wind, the evening density maximum forms at altitudes where the recombination rate is relatively small. It was revealed that at this time and altitude, plasma loss due to transport also weakens. As a consequence, the relative role of solar production increases over the net loss process and the electron density enhancement occurs.

”Då läser jag hellre kvällspressen ifall jag vill få lite spänning” : En studie om gymnasieelevers påverkan av kvällstidningarnas brottsrapportering / “Then I rather read the evening papers if I want a bit of excitement” : A study of the impact crime reports in the evening papers has on high school students

Jakobsson, Anders January 2009 (has links)

Media is a big part of our society and plays a major role in the socialization of young people. It sets the agenda for what’s important and newsworthy. In media coverage today crime and violence occupies a lot of the space. The evening press like Aftonbladet, Expressen and GT often use crime to sell their papers. The purpose of this study is to see what impact these crime reports have on high school students and how the education in the subject civic studiescould be designed from this point of view. In order to examine the reactions from the students concerning crime reports in the media I have applied the following questions: What does students state about their reaction to the crime reports in the evening papers? Which opinion do students have on media studies in civic studies? How can the media education be outlinedto meet the students needs? To answer the questions above I have conducted interviews with students and asked them what they think about evening papers and media in general. I started each interview by letting the student read an article from the evening paper Aftonbladet and then we discussed how heor she reacted to the article. It was a typical crime article from the evening papers which contained many of the ingredients that they usually have. Media professor Peter Dahlgren claims that crime articles in the evening papers follow a specific pattern that enables the reader to feel familiar with the contents of the text. During the interviews I also asked the students how they thought that the media education in civic studies should be conducted. The students had different opinions about the evening press. Some of them thought that it israther good and that they especially like the crime reports. Other students didn’t like those papers as much and thought that they were full of lies and exaggerations. The crime reports´ impact on the students however was pretty clear and some of them explained how this affected their everyday life. They all agreed that media education is important and that they wanted to learn more so they can interpret media in a way that enables them to tell what’s trueand what’s not.Key words: Evening papers, Media and Media education
