Enhanced Optimality Conditions and New Constraint Qualifications for Nonsmooth Optimization Problems

Zhang, Jin 12 December 2014 (has links)
The main purpose of this dissertation is to investigate necessary optimality conditions for a class of very general nonsmooth optimization problems called the mathematical program with geometric constraints (MPGC). The geometric constraint means that the image of certain mapping is included in a nonempty and closed set. We first study the conventional nonlinear program with equality, inequality and abstract set constraints as a special case of MPGC. We derive the enhanced Fritz John condition and from which, we obtain the enhanced Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) condition and introduce the associated pseudonormality and quasinormality condition. We prove that either pseudonormality or quasinormality with regularity implies the existence of a local error bound. We also give a tighter upper estimate for the Fr\'chet subdifferential and the limiting subdifferential of the value function in terms of quasinormal multipliers which is usually a smaller set than the set of classical normal multipliers. We then consider a more general MPGC where the image of the mapping from a Banach space is included in a nonempty and closed subset of a finite dimensional space. We obtain the enhanced Fritz John necessary optimality conditions in terms of the approximate subdifferential. One of the technical difficulties in obtaining such a result in an infinite dimensional space is that no compactness result can be used to show the existence of local minimizers of a perturbed problem. We employ the celebrated Ekeland's variational principle to obtain the results instead. We then apply our results to the study of exact penalty and sensitivity analysis. We also study a special class of MPCG named mathematical programs with equilibrium constraints (MPECs). We argue that the MPEC-linear independence constraint qualification is not a constraint qualification for the strong (S-) stationary condition when the objective function is nonsmooth. We derive the enhanced Fritz John Mordukhovich (M-) stationary condition for MPECs. From this enhanced Fritz John M-stationary condition we introduce the associated MPEC generalized pseudonormality and quasinormality condition and build the relations between them and some other widely used MPEC constraint qualifications. We give upper estimates for the subdifferential of the value function in terms of the enhanced M- and C-multipliers respectively. Besides, we focus on some new constraint qualifications introduced for nonlinear extremum problems in the recent literature. We show that, if the constraint functions are continuously differentiable, the relaxed Mangasarian-Fromovitz constraint qualification (or, equivalently, the constant rank of the subspace component condition) implies the existence of local error bounds. We further extend the new result to the MPECs. / Graduate / 0405

Solving a binary quadratic problem with mixed constraints by D.C. optimization techniques

Al Kharboutly, Mira 04 April 2018 (has links)
Our objective in this work is to solve a binary quadratic problem under mixed constraints by the techniques of DC optimization. As DC optimization has proved its efficiency to solve large-scale problems in different domains, we decided to apply this optimization approach to solve this problem. The most important part of D.C. optimization is the choice of an adequate decomposition that facilitates determination and speeds convergence of two constructed suites where the first converges to the optimal solution of the primal problem and the second converges to the optimal solution of the dual problem. In this work, we propose two efficient decompositions and simple to manipulate. The application of the DC Algorithm (DCA) leads us to solve at each iteration a convex quadratic problem with mixed, linear and quadratic constraints. For it, we must find an efficient and fast method to solve this last problem at each iteration. To do this, we apply three different methods: the Newton method, the semidefinite programing and interior point method. We present the comparative numerical results on the same benchmarks of these three approaches to justify our choice of the fastest method to effectively solve this problem.

Programmation DC et DCA pour l'optimisation non convexe/optimisation globale en variables mixtes entières : Codes et Applications / DC programming and DCA for nonconvex optimization/ global optimization in mixed integer programming : Codes and applications

Pham, Viet Nga 18 April 2013 (has links)
Based on theoretical and algorithmic tools of DC programming and DCA, the research in this thesis focus on the local and global approaches for non convex optimization and global mixed integer optimization. The thesis consists of 5 chapters. The first chapter presents fundamentals of DC programming and DCA, and techniques of Branch and Bound method (B&B) for global optimization (using the DC relaxation technique for calculating lower bounds of the optimal value). It shall include results concerning the exact penalty technique in mixed integer programming. The second chapter is devoted of a DCA method for solving a class of NP-hard nonconvex nonlinear mixed integer programs. These nonconvex problems are firstly reformulated as DC programs via penalty techniques in DC programming so that the resulting DC programs are effectively solved by DCA and B&B well adapted. As a first application in financial optimization, we modeled the problem pf portfolio selection under concave transaction costs and applied DCA and B&B to its solutions. In the next chapter we study the modeling of the problem of minimization of nonconvex discontinuous transaction costs in portfolio selection in two forms: the first is a DC program obtained by approximating the objective function of the original problem by a DC polyhedral function and the second is an equivalent mixed 0-1 DC program. And we present DCA, B&B algorithm, and a combined DCA-B&B algorithm for their solutions. Chapter 4 studied the exact solution for the multi-objective mixed zero-one linear programming problem and presents two practical applications of proposed method. We are interested int the last chapter two challenging problems: the linear integer least squares problem and the Nonnegative Mattrix Factorization problem (NMF). The NMF method is particularly important because of its many various applications of the first are in telecommunications. The numerical simulations show the robustness, speed (thus scalability), performance, and the globality of DCA in comparison to existent methods.
