January 2020 (has links)
Abstract: In this work, we consider a class of nonlinear supercritical problems. We present a method to determine the solution of Coron’s problems in the supercritical case for a sequence of resonant exponents. Such a method is an adaptation of the perturbation method in the case where the whole solutions manifold to the non perturbed problem is not known. / Doutor

Global in time existence and blow-up results for a semilinear wave equation with scale-invariant damping and massPalmieri, Alessandro 24 October 2018 (has links)
The PhD thesis deals with global in time existence results and blow-up result for a semilinear wave model with scale-invariant damping and mass. Since the time-dependent coefficients for the considered model make somehow the damping and the mass a threshold term between effective and non-effective terms, it turns out that a fundamental role in the description of qualitative properties of solutions to this semilinear model and to the corresponding linear homogeneous Cauchy problem is played by the multiplicative constants appearing in those coefficients. For coefficients that make the damping term dominant, we can use the standard approach for the classical damped wave model with L^2 − L^2 estimates and the so-called test function method. On the other hand, when the interaction among those coefficients is balanced, then, it is possible to observe how typical tools for hyperbolic models, as for example Kato’s lemma, provide sharp global in time existence results and sharp blow-up results for super- and sub-Strauss type exponents, respectively.

The present work tests the market efficiency hypothesis (EMH) through a measure of time persistence known as the Hurst exponent. This approach, in addition to being related to the fractal dimension, allows us to expand the analysis of the efficient market hypothesis proposed by Eugene Fama in 1970. The calculation of the Hurst exponent is carried out based on the rescaled range method; and its application is extended to a dynamic estimation between the 2006-2021 period. This indicator serves as a market efficiency index and is estimated for the series of daily returns of the MILA securities markets, made up of Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru. The results show that Peru is the least efficient market, and with the highest number of inefficiency cycles for the calculated period. On the other hand, Mexico turns out to be the only MILA market which has been in the efficient region. / Trabajo de investigación

"Woman Arise!": Political Work in the Writings of Lu DaltonBench, Sheree Maxwell 01 January 2002 (has links) (PDF)
In 1872, Mormon plural wife, educator, and suffragist Lucinda Lee Dalton began writing fiery political essays and insightful poetry for the Woman's Exponent from her small community in southern Utah. Through her writings Dalton endeavors to shape the opinions of Exponent readers by working within public discourse toward the goal of equality for women. At times both optimistic and troubled, she uses the rhetorical strategies of humor, irony, reason, identification, and persuasion to educate men and women on disparities and to encourage women to participate actively in their own emancipation. She often engages in a dialogical process with other writers by crafting both polemic and poetic responses to specific writings in order to work toward greater insight on critical issues. As an essayist Dalton defends her religion, calls for the expansion of women's political and economic opportunities, and asserts that the elevation of women is crucial to achieving the potential of both sexes. As a poet she is a compelling writer who reveals in her poems her apprehensions and aspirations, her faith and feminism. Much of her poetry reflects the same commitment to reform that is clear in her essays, and she uses both genres do effective political work. This thesis uses a pluralist approach to recover Lu Dalton as an important early Mormon writer. It articulates her merit as a representative voice by evaluating the historical context and rhetorical function of her published writings in which she actively calls for broad societal reform, writing on women's roles, political rights, and relationship with God and men.
