CrossFit (Cult)ure: a Rhetorical Analysis of Symbolic Convergence Through Digital MediaDeChristopher, Mary Kaitlin 21 June 2019 (has links)
Community is created, developed, and produced by CrossFit as an organization through their website mission statement and visual media, and the community of CrossFitters are able to respond in kind on CrossFit social media. CrossFit culture has become a tour-de-force in the health and fitness industry over recent years, where individuals come together from all walks of life to connect to others through a health and fitness-centric focused community. The high- quality promotional media produced by CrossFit HQ offers a glimpse into what the organization promotes and values, and the official webpage is the main starting point for potential new members to engage with CrossFit as an organization. Likewise, the CrossFit Facebook page offers research into how individuals in the CrossFit community engage with promoted material, as well as how they may shape their identity or understanding as a result. Fantasy theme analysis (FTA) is useful for analyzing the way CrossFitters define their identity through their membership in CrossFit culture. FTA can help explain how both the CrossFit website and Facebook posts present the "CrossFit way of life" as an ideal fitness community and its implications for members. Using symbolic convergence theory (SCT) as a lens, research will utilize fantasy theme rhetorical criticism as the methodology with which these CrossFit artifacts (both Facebook posts and corresponding comments) are analyzed in order to develop a better understanding of the fantasy themes found within the CrossFit community as well as how members develop a sense of shared reality and identity through their membership in the organization. / Master of Arts / Community is created, developed, and produced by CrossFit as an organization through their website mission statement and visual media, and the community of CrossFitters are able to respond in kind on CrossFit social media. Det könade författarskapet : En analys av förkroppsligande av kvinnliga författare inom fantastik-genrenSedholm, Charlotte January 2017 (has links)
This thesis examines in which ways and how female authors in the fantasy-genre are being embodied in their authorship. It is done so through interviews of three published female authors working in the fantasy and/or science fiction genre and analysed with thematic analysis through the lense of Judith Butlers theory on the gender/sex distinction and performativity. The study shows how actors in the field act as gatekeepers by exclusion and how the authors negotiate their position as authors in the context of the fantasy/science fiction genre. The performative regulations of embodiment genders these authors to the extent of questioning the female authorship itself.

Horses for courses: exploring the limits of leadership development through equine-assisted learningKelly, Simon 2013 May 1920 (has links)
Yes / This essay draws on insights taken from Lacanian psychoanalysis to rethink and resituate
notions of the self and subjectivity within the theory and practice of experiential leadership
development. Adopting an auto-ethnographic approach, it describes the author’s own
experience as a participant in a programme of equine assisted learning or ‘horse whispering’
and considers the consequences of human-animal interactions as a tool for self-development
and improvement. Through an analysis of this human/animal interaction, the essay presents
and applies three Lacanian concepts of subjectivity, desire and fantasy and considers their
form and function in determining the often fractured relationship between self and other that
characterises leader-follower relations.
