Le discours antiterroriste : la gestion politique du 11 septembre en France / The Discourse of Anti-Terrorism : the Political Management of September 11 in FranceFragnon, Julien 24 March 2009 (has links)
Discourse on terrorism is above all discourse against terrorism. To respond to the uncertainties produced by an attack, the politicians pursue three objectives: to mobilize the population, to reassure it and to explain the social problem to it by politicizing the issue. The mobilizing aim is achieved by the public sharing of feelings and common values and the reproof of the terrorist enemy. This emotional discourse is used in combination with a decision-making discourse which aims to reassure the citizenry. This materializes through the transmission of an ethos of having mastered the problem and on the legitimization of the judiciarisation presented as a well-balanced approach to the fight against the terrorism. Finally, the leaders integrate the terrorism into a meta-narrative capable of explaining the continuity of political responses to terrorism since the 1980s and of connecting it with global disorder.

A personal perspective on organisations : head, heart and soulStaron, Maret Avelyn, University of Western Sydney, Hawkesbury, Faculty of Social Inquiry January 1999 (has links)
Through a heuristics approach, the author began an exploration of the meaning, both intellectually and emotionally, of personal experiences in organisations. Change and learning was focused on, and how continual rounds of restructuring impacted on the writer as a participant/observer. The lack of spirituality in organisations, how we hide our hearts and souls and how we seek certainty using static models, theories and plans became underlying themes through the work. The findings of the research include outputs such as the development of an organisational model of complexity, but more so outcomes that were the intuitive insights that were gained during the research process / Master of Science (Hons)

Being a Therapist - an Art of Balance : Three family therapists' experience and awareness of managing their own feelings in meeting with clientsBruland, Lina Lien January 2012 (has links)
This study has looked at self-awareness of three Family therapists when it comes to managing their own feelings. The data collection method used is qualitative semi-structured interview, with a phenomenological background. To analyze the data, The Constant Comparative Method from Grounded Theory (Postholm, 2005) was used as inspiration. Three main themes emerged from the data; 1)"The art of Balance", which is a theme shining through the whole thesis. 2) "Human meets human" is a theme that provides important background information on the way the therapists think about their practice and helps us understand their kind of awareness. And 3) "Meeting with one`s own feelings" which contains the research participants understanding of feelings in general and how they relate to and manage their own feelings. In order to shed light on the data and contextualize them, different theories have been used. For instance, Rogers (1961) is used to shed light on the relationship between client and therapists, Jordan (Jordan, 2001, 2011) for understanding self-awareness and Kvalsund (2005), Damasio (2002) and Hørven (2004) in order to explore the phenomenon of feelings. In addition, new research has been used to show the relevance of this study, such as Moltu, Binder, Nielsen and Høstmark (2010). The study shows that self-awareness is important for therapists in order to manage their own feelings in meeting with clients and that becoming aware of the process going on inside oneself and reflecting upon it is an invaluable resource for a therapist. The research participants highlighted inner dialogue as a tool for doing this, and the inner dialogue is a process of reflecting upon and realizing what is going on inside, and what that is about.

Expressing emotion: how emotion is encoded in language and the role of emotion during conflict transformationWela, Vusumuzi Patrick January 2003 (has links)
A dissertation submitted in fulfilment of the Requirements for the degree of
D litt in Communication Science
UDiversity of Zululand, 2003 / In this dissertation I present the results of an analysis of a study about how language encodes emotion and how emotion is used during negotiation. I review canonical literature on emotions, and come to the conclusion that there are no empirical grounds to identify a set number of emotions. It is more appropriate to distinguish particular mind-body states during which people experience subjective awarenesses that they term "emotions." I then go on to show that emotive awareness is so fundamental to humans that all language structures are involved in the encoding of emotive awarenesses that are expressed, in particular speech acts. Finally I look at the role of emotion during conflict transformation. / National Research Fund (NRF).

Anxiety sensitivity within the structural model of affectKristovics, Alexandra, University of Western Sydney, College of Arts, Education and Social Sciences, School of Psychology January 2002 (has links)
This study examines physiological aspects of anxiety using different scales.Anxiety can be positively related to the high-order dimension of negative affect only, whereas depression is not only positively related to negative affect but is also negatively related to the higher-order dimension of positive affect. In this thesis, an exploration of the factor structure of the ASI was undertaken, as well as other measures of anxiety and hyperchondriasis using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA).Some results indicated that most constructs examined are multidimensional.Socially observable symptoms were also negatively related to positive affect (lack of self assurance) and mental incapacitation were positively related to guilt. There must be some consensus on the meaning of anxiety in order to establish its relationship with the higher-order dimensions of positive and negative affect. Results point to the importance of examining the construct validity of various scales. / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

Queer Feelings, Political Potential: Tracing Affect in Performance SpacesBlackston, Dylan McCarthy 11 May 2012 (has links)
This thesis layers theories of affect circulation, queer performance participation, counterpublics, and queer space and time with ethnographic work performed in queer performance spaces. In so doing, the thesis explores affective networks in queer performance spaces in order to begin a theoretical analysis of the connecting affects amongst queer performance participants. In my interviews, I found affective connections which I explored as keywords. These keywords express affects that, in part, create the affective networks of queer performance participants.
