Unidade entre mente e corpo na experiência afetiva em Espinosa / Unity between mind and body in the affective experience in Spinoza

Rafael dos Santos Monteiro 06 December 2017 (has links)
If are body and mind, respectively, modes of thought attributes and extension, the mental and the body experience must be developed as these attributes are and express the nature of the one substance, ie without any causal relationship between them and following the same order of succession and connection of causes and things. In the absence of a mechanism to explain the relationship between mind and body for any kind of direct interaction, the question is how to understand the unity of a essence expressed in two different realities, in the case of man, and endless, in the case of God, without being separated from them, but reunited in the self- producing actuality of substance. This text aims at last deal with the mind and body unity in Espinosa and how it can best be understood through it to Spinoza science of human feelings. With this, intending to go beyond the unit in ontological terms, we will target investigate it on equality between mind and body as they are shown in a certain affective experience.

Optimism, Parent Feelings, and Parenting Behavior over Time for Children with Developmental Delay

Kurtz-Nelson, Evangeline 06 September 2018 (has links)
Young children with intellectual and developmental disabilities are at increased risk of developing persistent mental health and behavior problems. While the link between parenting behavior and the development of problem behavior is well understood in this population, there is a need for examination of key parent factors that affect parenting behavior and child problem behavior over time in families of children with developmental delay (DD). Private events such as parents’ feelings about their children and levels of dispositional optimism may impact parenting behavior through a variety of mechanisms, including experiential avoidance and relational schemas. As such, this study proposed to examine relations between parent feelings, optimism, parenting behavior, and child problem behavior for young children with developmental delay in a longitudinal context. Parents’ positive and negative feelings about their young children with developmental delay, dispositional optimism, and child problem behavior were assessed at three timepoints in 132 parent-child dyads. In addition, measures of observed effective parenting behavior during parent-child play interactions were collected at each timepoint. Negative feelings about the child significantly predicted child problem behavior across timepoints, with higher negative feelings predicting higher problem behavior. Positive feelings and optimism did not significantly predict problem behavior in the model including negative feelings, suggesting that correlations between these constructs and reduced problem behavior are primarily explained by reduced negative feelings. Increased negative feelings also significantly predicted a lower rate of praise across timepoints, indicating that parents with high negative feelings about their child with DD engaged in fewer praise statements during parent-child play interactions. These findings suggest that a strong and stable relationship between negative feelings and child problem behavior is present at a very early age for young children with developmental delay and that negative feelings may impact parents’ use of effective and positive parenting strategies. Future research should examine interventions designed to address both parent private events and child problem behavior as well as how these constructs develop both earlier and later in life.

Discurso pedagógico da empresa = um estudo de manipulação dos sentimentos / Pedagogical discourse of the company

Pellegrini, Rosivaldo 16 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: José Roberto Montes Heloani / Tese (doutorado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Educação / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-16T00:34:16Z (GMT). / Abstract: The purpose of this work is to carry out a critical analysis of the pedagogical discourse of a certain company, characterized by what it is understood as the feelings manipulation of workers called euphemistically of "collaborators". We defend that this manipulation is more present in some instruments created by this corporation, that is, its alleged code of ethics attitude, its site where the human resources department and its internal circulation magazines are located. In the company analysis we tried to verify some elements in its ethics code, which seemed to present several contradictions, leading us to question if there would really exist ethics in this company. Besides, we understood that some consequences of this discourse caused feelings in the "collaborators", that seem to be intentional on the company's part. As for the magazines of internal circulation, they became present in practically all the chapters and topics of the work. They made it possible for us to better understand its corporative pedagogy, leading to a discourse of virtuousness, of "citizencompany", since it would be assisting its "collaborators", family and community with its actions in the social responsibility field. In face of this, this process led us to analyze aspects of the importance of the company's image and the fetish of its brand. After that, the contradictions of its pedagogical discourse and the possibility of the building of awareness with "its collaborators" were considered. It is understood that this is an extremely important issue in face of the changes in the contemporary capitalism, for forms of production were restructured, technological innovations, unemployment and precariousness of the work force were arisen, with new forms of corporative management and accumulation of capital. It is concluded that it is necessary and important to analyze this process. In this sense, as we intend to deepen the analysis of the company's pedagogical discourse, we face the issue of thinking of moments that might make it possible the construction of transformations, its range and its limits within itself. That is, a reflection concerning the building of awareness of "these collaborators", in face of the material conditions of production, of contradictions in its discourse as well as of the relation of this process with the workers' feelings, thinking about the relations of power, as well as the exploration, manipulation, seduction and fetish of the merchandise. Taking our limitations into consideration, our intention was to help understanding the world of work. / Doutorado / Politicas de Educação e Sistemas Educativos / Doutor em Educação

Liver transplantation: the meaning for those that live the wait for the surgical procedure / Transplante hepÃtico: o significado para aqueles que vivem a doenÃa crÃnica e a espera pelo procedimento cirÃrgico

Maria Ãsis Freire de Aguiar 01 April 2007 (has links)

Feelings of Safety in a Middle-Sized Town in Sweden

Löfdahl, Petra, Rovio, Johanna January 2017 (has links)
Introduction: Fear of crime is widely studied in the criminological field and refers to the individual's perception and evaluation of a potential danger. Fear of crime holds both direct and indirect causes where direct causes refer to feelings of fear after previous victimization. Indirect causes refer to those who are frightened by the possibility to be victimized. Aim: This study aimed to explore the feelings of safety among the population in a middle-sized town in Sweden. Method: Data was collected using a replica of the National Safety Survey. This study used a simple randomized sample and the questionnaire was sent to 1010 participants, 298 responded to the survey, which meant a response rate of 29.5%. Results: Most of the participants in the studied city (87%) reported concern about the criminality. The female gender and earlier victimization were associated with higher levels of concern. The majority of the respondents reported feeling safe in their own neighborhood, but almost half of them felt unsafe in another area; where the residential area Nacksta, bus station and train station were distinctive. The respondents felt quite big trust for the police and the authorities, but earlier victimization and higher levels of concern for criminality were associated with lower levels of trust. Discussion: A discussion of the results regarding the concern for criminality, unsafe feelings and trust in the police is provided. The differences and similarities were discussed from a theoretical perspective and a comparison with the National Safety Survey has been made. / <p>2017-06-01</p>

An explorative study of the experiences and the reasons why health workers report a needle stick injury

Williams, Bonita January 2005 (has links)
Magister Curationis / The aim of the study was to explore the reasons why health workers reported their occupationally acquired needle stick injury. The secondary reasons for this study was to be able to identify the factors that contributed to the choice to report as well as the feelings health workers experienced during and after the injury. Methodology A qualitative research design with a phenomenological approach was used to gain understanding around why health workers reported the needle stick injury. Data was collected through a semi- structured interview. Population The 89 health workers at a Secondary Hospital in the Cape Town Metropole Health district who reported an occupational injury from 2001 to 2004. Sample Nine health workers were interviewed. Findings From the nine participants only six had needle stick injuries, while the other three had other blood and body fluid occupational exposures. The most common reason for reporting was that the health workers wanted to ensure their own physical well-being. Health workers and their families experienced emotional turmoil after the needle stick injury. / South Africa

Against Neutrality and Minimalism, Choreographing Drama: A Degree Project in four acts

Seppälä, Wilma January 2021 (has links)
The main purpose of this essay is to reflect on my degree project process whose main question was to wonder around choreographing drama and using feelings and emotions as dance material. Being able to approach the question, the text is written in the format of a play, here in four acts, the fourth act being the performance part of the degree project called Act Four: Scene of Sentimentality. Another focus of this text is to elaborate on the performance-making process and describe its methods such as Walking-Actions, Face Dance and The Tag of Pain. In the text I am referencing several artists that have somehow dealt with drama and/or emotions in their work for example Meg Stuart, Elina Pirinen and Pina Bausch. One of my methods for choreographing drama was to create contradictions. In this essay the strategy for creating contradictions was taking in an "enemy", here it being the 1960s minimalism and the so-called ‘neutrality’ in contemporary dance, and then arguing against the enemy. The essay ends with a meditation on the connection between emotions and dancing.

A Somatic-Perceptual Theory of the Emotions

Primmer, Jennifer-Wrae 11 1900 (has links)
In this dissertation, I develop and defend a kind of somatic theory of the emotions; namely, a somatic-perceptual theory of the emotions. On this account, emotions are perceptions of physiological changes. The majority of emotion theorists, however, hold some kind of a cognitive theory of the emotions. I argue, in opposition to these theories, that cognition is never necessary for emotion. Somatic theories of the emotions have never been well-received in philosophy and psychology. This is mainly because they are often perceived as being ill-equipped to explain many of the things that a theory of the emotions ought to account for. In particular, it is argued that somatic theories of the emotions fail to take into account the fact that emotions are typically directed toward an intentional object. Somatic theories, it is argued, are also unable to explain how to distinguish between different emotions associated with identical physiological responses. Moreover, since on my view emotions are a form of perception, my view would seem to allow for the bodily perceptions constituting emotions to occur unconsciously. However, in philosophy, the notion of unconscious emotions is problematic, because in ordinary language, emotions just are feelings – and feelings are, by definition, conscious. Using philosophical arguments and empirical evidence from neuroscience and psychology, I argue that my somatic-perceptual theory of the emotions is able to account both for the intentional nature of the emotions and the distinctiveness of different emotions just as well as leading cognitive theories of the emotions. This is significant because these objections have not yet been adequately met by other somatic theories of the emotions. I also embrace the implication that on my view, emotions can be unconscious, and show that my somatic-perceptual theory provides a framework for thinking about poorly understood psychological conditions, such as alexithymia. / Dissertation / Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

The Mediating Role of Resilience in the Relationship Between Attachment Style and Symptoms of Depression and Anxiety

Jurgensen, Melanie 01 January 2019 (has links)
Although previous research has identified a relationship between insecure attachment styles and symptoms of depression and anxiety, evidence regarding the mechanisms of action driving this relationship has been lacking. Consequently, the current study examined the mediating role of resilience in the relationship between insecure attachment styles (i.e. anxious-avoidant, anxious-ambivalent, helpless-disorganized and frightened-disorganized) and symptoms of depression and anxiety. The current study included a sample of 182 participants (i.e., 87 men and 95 women) who completed six questionnaires that assessed each participants' relationship with their caregivers during their childhood, present symptoms of depression and anxiety, and their resilience. Correlational analyses indicated significant relationships among the variables being studied. The formation of an insecure attachment during childhood predicted significantly symptoms of depression and anxiety in adulthood in both men and women. More specifically, the relationship between anxious-avoidant and anxious-ambivalent with symptoms of depression was partially mediated by resilience for men. There were no significant mediation for symptoms of anxiety for me. Within the women population, resilience served as a partial mediator in the relationship between anxious-ambivalent attachment and depression as well as in the relationship between frightened-disorganized attachment and anxiety. Such findings suggested that resilience could act as a protective factor against symptoms of depression and anxiety. These results demonstrated the importance for promoting resilience, especially for individuals who formed insecure attachments during childhood. The importance of studying the relationships among these variables is discussed further.
