The BMF&BOVESPA has the goal to reach about 5 million individual investors by the end of 2018 and in this context are inherent risks of investment in shares which the Brazilian investor is little used, due to the complexity of this market. As it is essential a careful evaluation of accounting and financial reporting and the prospects of the company to ensure the investors a most appropriate decision for their investments, this study aims to know the investor perception, as a user, about the understandability of accounting and financial reporting, of publicly traded companies listed on BMF&BOVESPA, investigating possible explanations and comparing user perceptions individual investors to other groups involved. From retrospective studies on accounting and financial reporting, as well as general aspects of comprehensibility and language, was created an electronic research tool accessible via the internet. This instrument was made available to an estimated audience of about 14,600 people and had a return of 413 questionnaires of which 300 were validated. The sample had 97% of respondents with higher education and the results showed a high importance of accounting and financial reporting in decision-making investment in shares by the respondents. However, meeting the expectations related to the understandability of the reports had intermediate scores in most segments analyzed and found that the CLOZE test scores were low for most individual investors. The publicly traded companies, especially in the perception of individual investors, are not easily accessible, do not involve the public in the processes related to the development of accounting and financial reporting and does not seek to know your ideas. These results were in line with the perceptions on the availability of instruments segmented for specific audiences that proved to be low as evidenced by the preference of 81.3% of respondents that preferred separate reports, one conventional and one simplified, more accessible to the user less specialized. For the sample evaluated it is concluded from this study that there are opportunities to improve communication between public companies listed on BM&FBOVESPA and the segments of capital markets, involved in the accounting and financial reporting, from the use of plain language and objective to develop targeted instruments to specific audiences, by the companies that should be attentive to the preferences of investors.

Hoppe, Aderbal Alfonso 14 November 2012 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 Aderbal Alfonso Hoppe.pdf: 533134 bytes, checksum: 9f8b83dfeea68bfdd9549643a8c701d8 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-11-14 / At the close of the financial statements at December 31, 2010, corporate accounting practices in Brazil underwent the largest transformation in their history, in aligning with international accounting standards. This process generated differences in accounting practices between those accepted under tax legislation and those accepted under economic sector regulatory environments. The electric power distribution sector, in providing a public service, is regulated by a Granting Authority. The two main methods of regulation and inspection used by the Granting Authority are: i) to establish tariff practices so that through this mechanism there is control over levels of revenue and costs; and ii) to establish accounting practices through the Electrical Sector Accounting Manual. Concession agreements are standardized with similar economic and financial characteristics, which in turn, generate similar accounting events. This work is intended to analyze the differences in accounting practices between corporate financial statements and regulatory financial statements. To achieve this objective a conceptual review of the corporate and regulatory accounting practices was performed, including the economic and financial characteristics of the main examples of these differences in accounting practices. It was concluded through analysis of corporate and regulatory balance sheets at December 31, 2011, that despite the fact that corporate and regulatory accounting practices are formalized and mandatory for the balance sheet at that base date, there were inconsistencies, or a lack of application, of the accounting practices required under regulatory accounting. Accordingly, while it is evidently a positive notion to prepare and disclose regulatory financial statements that reconcile with accounting practices, at this stage this requires more detail and supplementary information in regulatory financial statements, as well as the complete adoption of regulatory accounting practices by all electric power distributors / No encerramento das demonstrações contábeis societárias de 31 de dezembro de 2010, a contabilidade societária no Brasil completou a maior transformação de sua história pelo processo de harmonização para as normas internacionais de contabilidade.

The international financial reporting standard for small and medium-sized entities : the need and form of a third-tier financial reporting standard in Namibia

Klink, Petra 27 May 2016 (has links)
The development of the International Financial Reporting Standard for Small and Medium-sized Entities (IFRS for SMEs) was based on the demand for a more simplified financial reporting standard, compared to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Despite simplifications, the requirements of the IFRS for SMEs are still regarded complex and costly to apply, especially for micro entities in developing countries such as Namibia. Consequently, there is a need to further simplify financial reporting requirements for micro entities in the form of a third-tier financial reporting standard. A third-tier standard can take the form of either a separately developed standard or a simplification of existing standard(s). There are more advantages to the development of a standard based on existing standard(s), taking into account the Namibian financial reporting environment. It is therefore recommended that Namibia develop a third-tier standard based on the IFRS for SMEs. / Financial Accounting / M. Phil. (Accounting Science)

Komparace účetních výkazů dle české legislativy a IFRS/IAS / Comparison of Accounting Statements Under Czech Legislation and Under IFRS/IAS.

JAREŠOVÁ, Štěpánka January 2012 (has links)
The objective of this thesis is to compare financial statements prepared under Czech law (?ČÚL? or ?CZ GAAP?) and financial statements prepared under international accounting standards IAS/IFRS. The theoretical part elaborates on the formal comparison of financial statements prepared under ČÚL and under IAS/IFRS and the objective of the comparison is the contents, form and methods used for preparing financial statements under the two legislations. General accounting in the Czech Republic is governed by Act 563/1991 Coll., on Accounting and IAS/IFRS is similarly governed by the Framework. The other part discusses some selected IAS/IFRS standards that are applied in a certain company and they are compared with Czech accounting standards. The practical part of the thesis discusses the transformation of the financial statements prepared under ČÚL to financial statements under IAS/IFRS in a certain company. As a result of such transformation, certain lines disclosed under the balance sheet and the income statement show different figures and they have impact on the closing amounts and the profit/loss of the company. The outcome of the practical part are reports prepared under ČÚL and under IAS/IFRS and in the end I assess the influence of different methods used on the reported data. I focused only on two most important parts of financial statements, i.e. balance sheet and income statement.
