Elencou-se e categorizou-se cada possibilidade sonora expandida encontrada nessas obras / Abstract: The thesis investigates the works of composers Edino Krieger (1928) (Ritmata 1974 for solo guitar ), Chico Mello (1958) ( Do Lado do Dedo, 1987 for solo guitar and Dança for Guitar Quartet, 1986) and Arthur Kampela (1960) ( Percussion Study 1.1991-93 , for solo guitar) aiming to create a guide to interpreting and writing extended technique in Brazil. The works permeate the productive one that extends from 1974 to 1994 and investigated concepts and trends in technical overview of the expanded national and international historical way. Such investigation was aimed at addressing the complex features in terms of timbre and rhythmic- percussive procedures. Articulatory variables procedures (diversified plucking, tapping and percussive procedures) implementing by the guitarists imply improvement and enrichment of the quality of the aesthetic repertoire. These procedures consist of creative processes viability acoustic and mechanical fit, instrumental support and materials for clarity and feasibility in the works. Every extended sound found in these works was listed and categorized / Doutorado / Processos Criativos / Doutor em Música

My God, My God, Why Have You Abandoned Me? : The setting and rhetoric of Mark's Gospel

Incigneri, Brian, res.cand@acu.edu.au January 2001 (has links)
This study proposes that the design of Mark's Gospel is best appreciated by recognising the particular political, social and religious situation that gave rise it, and by taking into account the concerns, experiences and emotions of both the author and the intended readers. It is argued that proposals for an Eastern provenance lack evidence and plausibility, and that the Gospel was written in Rome. The time of writing is identified as the latter months of 71, as the Gospel contains a number of indications that the Jerusalem Temple had been destroyed and that the Triumph of Vespasian and Titus in July/August 71 had recently occurred. Moreover, there are several allusions to events that had occurred within a year or two prior to that date. An investigation of the political and social situation shows that Christians had reason to be fearful, especially after the return of Titus. Through an examination of the rhetorical techniques contained within the text, it is proposed that the Gospel was a response to the protracted suffering of the Christians of Rome, addressing their doubts about God in the face of Roman power, their fear of further executions, and stresses within the community caused by apostasy and betrayal. Paying close attention to the mood of the text, an analysis of Mark's rhetoric shows how it responds to the readers' anxieties (including fear of delation), counters Flavian propaganda, and provides hope and strength. As appeals to the emotions were regarded as a key tool of ancient rhetoric, careful attention is paid to their use throughout the Gospel, showing that Mark produced a text full of pathos, matching the highly stressful atmosphere, and placing the readers' cries for help and prayers into the mouths of characters. In repeatedly stirring the readers' emotions by reminding them of their own painful experiences and by alluding to contemporary events and social attitudes, Mark explains why they are persecuted, and helps them to deal with their fear. He portrays Jesus as the one who had led the way by accepting martyrdom for the gospel in similar circumstances. He shapes many scenes to remind them of their Roman situation, especially the trials and executions of fellow Christians. Mark's rhetorical use of the disciples is also explored, showing that he aimed to elicit sympathy for those who had failed under pressure, which indicates that he was advocating their readmittance into the community. It is proposed that reading the Gospel as rhetoric addressed to this situation provides a quite different view of its nature, design and purposes, and gives a very different perspective to a number of debated issues within Markan scholarship.

Projeto urbano : ação e conhecimento situados em Porto Alegre, século XXI

Fonseca, Luciana Marson January 2017 (has links)
What does “urban design” mean? During the last few years, this expression has been widely used and debated in Brazil. It has different meanings: it is polyphonic, polyvalent, as many researchers concede. However, this conceptual ambiguity, often a source of misunderstanding, which is not limited to academic debate, is considered as positive in this thesis: after all, the debate about the meanings of urban design does not indicate, precisely in this case, an invention of new practices? The main objective of this thesis is to develop a situated knowledge of urban design. Most of all, it is an exercise of situated knowledge linked to a specific place – Porto Alegre – at a specific time – the beginning of the 21st century –, and the particular look of an architect who did his undergraduate studies in 1990s. From this time and place, the thesis discusses already covered paths and reveals a possible future to live and to study – a hope, a future to be situated; because “the future is not what it was.”

A Social Anthropology of Ghosts in Twenty-First-Century America

Baker, Joseph O., Bader, Christopher D. 01 December 2014 (has links)
Although belief in ghosts or analogous concepts is prevalent cross-culturally, including in contemporary Western cultures, social scientific treatments of spirit belief and experience often dismiss such views as superstitious, or overlook this dimension of culture completely. Using mixed methods, we examine ghost belief, experience, and media consumption, as well as the practice of ‘ghost hunting’ in the United States. Results from a national survey demonstrate that these beliefs and practices are common and concentrated strongly among younger generations of Americans, especially moderately religious ‘dabblers.’ Fieldwork with multiple groups centered on ‘hunting’ ghosts reveals several notable themes, including rhetorical appeals to both science and religion, magical rites, the extensive use of technology to mediate evidence and experiences of ghosts, and the narrative construction of hauntings. We argue that the inherent liminality of spirits as cultural constructs accounts for their persistence, power, and continual recurrence.

Concerto for viola and orchestra

Dempster, Thomas Jefferson 02 December 2010 (has links)
Completed in early 2010, the Concerto for Viola and Orchestra is a major foray into composing a concertante work for the viola, an instrument without the rich history of concertos of the violin or ‘cello. In three movements, the Concerto employs a diversity of compositional techniques for the viola and explores the timbral possibilities for the orchestra. The work derives primarily from the series of initial gestures in the viola, and, in the span of over forty minutes, as many possible permutations on these ideas are explored throughout the solo instrument and orchestra. Following the score of the work is a theoretical analysis of the piece, including a condensed history of the viola concerto as a genre. Within this examination, issues concerning approaches to deconstructing a 21st-Century orchestral work are discussed alongside structural, melodic, motivic, and orchestrational analyses. / text

Sveriges säkerhetspolitik under 2000-talet : En analys ur ett liberalt och ett realistiskt perspektiv

Hall, Jens January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine and explain Sweden’s defence and security policy during the twenty-first century.   The method that was used in this research was a case study. The material that was used were government documents focusing on this area of policy, and numerous books concerning the theoretical perspectives on international relations and defence security policy.   The study is of an explaining art and the analysis explains Sweden’s security and defence policy during the twenty-first century. The analysis explains this by testing it against a liberal and a realist view on international relations.   The conclusion of the study is that Sweden’s defence and security policy has been liberal during this time period – and still is. When the cold war ended, Sweden started a new orientation that was carrying liberal ideas and ideals, which would transform the defence to this date. Realism was not part of the explanation at any point, not even when Russia was portrayed as violent, unreliable and with the now on-going rearmament and the conflict in Ukraine.
