PERFORMANCE OF PCM/FM DURING FREQUENCY SELECTIVE FADINGLaw, Eugene L. 11 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 30-November 02, 1995 / Riviera Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada / This paper will discuss the performance of pulse code modulation (PCM)/frequency
modulation (FM) during frequency selective fading. Frequency selective fading occurs
when the attenuation in part of the frequency band of interest is much greater than in
the rest of the band of interest. The frequency selective fading model used in this
paper assumes that two paths with different delays exist between the transmitter and
receiver (multipath). The two-path model was simulated in the laboratory and the
effects of frequency selective fading on the radio frequency (RF) spectrum and on the
waveforms at the output of the FM demodulator were measured. A mathematical
model was also used to predict the effects of frequency selective fading. The predicted
waveshapes are compared with the laboratory data. A simple demodulator which
alleviates the effects of frequency selective fading on PCM/FM at moderate
signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs) will be described. This demodulator is created by
detuning the telemetry receiver by a frequency equal to approximately one-half of the
intermediate frequency (IF) bandwidth and using the receiver’s amplitude modulation
(AM) detector output rather than the FM detector output. The performance of this
offset AM demodulator will be compared with the performance of an FM
demodulator. Frequency selective fades measured in real-world environments will be
also presented.

Limitation of the 2-Antennas Problem for Aircraft Telemetry by Using a Blind EqualizerSkrzypczak, Alexandre, Blanc, Grégory, Le Bournault, Tangi, Pierozak, Jean-Guy 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2015 Conference Proceedings / The Fifty-First Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 26-29, 2015 / Bally's Hotel & Convention Center, Las Vegas, NV / The emission of the telemetry signal is required over minimum two different antennas to keep the telemetry link available during a maneuver of a flying object. If nothing is made at the transmitter side, the telemetry link can be fully lost as both signals may have an opposite phase. We here propose a simple solution based on delay diversity to solve this problem. The basic idea is to introduce a delay between both emitted signals to guarantee a non-destructive signal recombination. We then exploit the ability of the blind equalizer developed by ZDS for the PCM/FM modulation to correctly equalize this signal and to recover the initial data. This solution does not require any modification of the on-board and floor set-ups except the introduction of a delay line between both transmitting antennas. It also does not need any pilot sequence and is natively robust to multipath perturbations.

Binary PCM/FM Tradeoffs Between Spectral Occupancy and Bit Error ProbabilityLaw, Eugene L. 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 17-20, 1994 / Town & Country Hotel and Conference Center, San Diego, California / The bit rates of telemetry systems are increasing rapidly. Higher bit rates occupy more spectra and result in decreased link margin. The major signal parameters that affect the spectral occupancy and bit error probability (BEP) of binary pulse code modulation (PCM)/frequency modulation (FM) signals are the bit rate, code, premodulation filter, and peak deviation. The measured spectral occupancy is also affected by the spectrum analyzer (or other measurement equipment) settings. Additional parameters that affect the BEP include the receiver intermediate frequency (IF) filter, the FM demodulator, and the bit detector. This paper will present the effects of these parameters on the measured 99% and -60 dBc bandwidths and the BEP of binary PCM/FM telemetry signals. Normalized BEP and bandwidth curves will be presented.

Distributed Digital Radios for Land Mobile Radio ApplicationsNavalekar, Abhijit C 04 January 2010 (has links)
The main objective of this dissertation is to develop the second generation of Distributed Digital Radio (DDR) technology. A DDR II modem provides an integrated voice/data service platform, higher data rates and better throughput performance as compared to a DDR I modem. In order to improve the physical layer performance of DDR modems an analytical framework is first developed to model the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing over Frequency Modulation (OFDM/FM) systems. The use of OFDM provides a spectrally efficient method of transmitting data over LMR channels. However, the high Peak-to-Average (PAR) of OFDM signals results in either a low Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) at FM receiver or a high non-linear distortion of baseband signal in the FM transmitter. This dissertation presents an analytical framework to highlight the impact of high PAR of OFDM signal on OFDM/FM systems. A novel technique for reduction of PAR of OFDM called Linear Scaling Technique (LST) is developed. The use of LST mitigates the signal distortion occurring in OFDM over FM systems. Another important factor which affects the throughput of LMR networks is the Push-to-Talk (PTT) delay. A PTT delay refers to the delay between the instant when a PTT switch on a conventional LMR radio is keyed/unkeyed and a response is observed at the radio output. It can be separated into a Receive-To-Transmit Switch Interval (RTSI) or a Transmit-To-Receive Switch Interval (TRSI). This dissertation presents the typical RTSI delay values, distributions and their impact on throughput performance of LMR networks. An analytical model is developed to highlight the asymmetric throughput problem and the unintentional denial of service (UDOS) occurring in heterogeneous LMR networks consisting of radios with different PTT delay profiles. This information will be useful in performance and capacity planning of LMR networks in future.

Hur kvalitetssäkras en Facility Management upphandling. : Viktig aspekt att tänka på vid outsourcing av den tekniska fastighetsskötseln.Bohlström, Kristina January 2011 (has links)

The stability of AM and FM screenings in different water conditions – with the mottle under considerationBergmark, Åsa, Löfgren, Jenny January 2004 (has links)
This project was performed at Rochester Institute of Technology to get more understanding and knowledge about AM and FM screenings similarities and differences with considerations of the mottle. By designing a test form conformed to the specific measurements and printing it on Heidelberg's Sunday 2000 press, the project group has evaluated the questions that already existed and the ones that occurred during the project. Hence the first press run left some unexpected phenomenon therefore another press run was performed. Measurements were performed and graphs produced in Excel. The project group evaluated the results and from that able to establish facts and draw conclusions. It has been a great experience for the project group and they have learnt a lot.

Design of a Low Power 70MHz-110MHz Harmonic Rejection Filter with Class-AB Output StageHuang, Shan 2010 May 1900 (has links)
An FM transmitter becomes the new feature in recent portable electronic
development. A low power, integrable FM transmitter filter IC is required to meet the
demand of FM transmitting feature. A low pass filter using harmonic rejection technique
along with a low power class-AB output buffer is designed to meet the current market
requirements on the FM transmitter chip.
A harmonic rejection filter is designed to filter FM square wave signal from
70MHz to 110MHz into FM sine wave signal. Based on Fourier series, the harmonic
rejection technique adds the phase shifted square waves to achieve better THD and less
high frequency harmonics. The phase shifting is realized through a frequency divider,
and the summation is implemented through a current summation circuit. A RC low pass
filter with automatic tuning is designed to further attenuate unwanted harmonics. In this
work, the filter's post layout simulation shows -53dB THD and harmonics above
800MHz attenuation of -99dB. The power consumption of the filter is less than 0.7mW.
Output buffer stage is implemented through a resistor degenerated transconductor
and a class-AB amplifier. Feedforward frequency compensation is applied to compensate the output class-AB stage, which extends the amplifier's operating
bandwidth. A fully balanced class-AB driver is proposed to unleash the driving
capability of common source output transistors. The output buffer reaches -43dB THD at
110MHz with 0.63Vpp output swing and drives 1mW into 50 load. The power
consumption of the output buffer is 7.25mW.
By using harmonic rejection technique, this work realizes the 70MHz-110MHz
FM carrier filtering using TSMC 0.18um nominal process. Above 800MHz harmonics
are attenuated to below -95dB. With 1.2V supply, the total power consumption including
output buffer is 7.95mW. The total die area is 0.946mm2.
