Initial Results using GPS Navigation with the Foerster Magnetometer System at the World Heritage Site of Cyrene,Libya.

Gaffney, Christopher F., Gaffney, Vincent L., Cuttler, R., Yorston, R. January 2008 (has links)
No / This Short Report summarizes some initial results using real time GPS to navigate and collect magnetometer data using Foerster sensors and a magnetic cart. The Foerster system is primarily aimed at the detection of buried ordnance and, by comparison to some other magnetometer sensors, the reported sensitivity is relatively low. However, the sensors require no alignment in the field, nor does the system require a regular contiguous grid to be established across the survey area. The latter means that data grids of different sizes and orientation can be measured and stitched together as part of data restoration prior to processing. The accurate positioning of the data means that `staggering¿, which is often seen in time-based collection strategies, is not apparent in the data; overall less processing is required to produce a final image than is required for other fluxgate instruments. Data from a survey at Cyrene are reproduced to illustrate the strengths of the system

In the first part of the work, we discuss the concepts of subjectivity and its links with the viewing technology, in light of concepts and studies of Michel Foucault and society of the spectacle of Guy Debord. In the second part, from the concept of Relational Aesthetics of Nicolas Bourriaud, in dialogue with the work of Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, seeking to show how this artist create the singularization of the relationship with the spaces shared through your project in video and film Parc Central. In the third part of the work, dialoguing with On Kawara, with focus on the work I am still alive - series of telegrams made from 1969. Thus, it is sought to understand how these two artists, each one in their own way, are interrelated the singularization of subjectivation processes from speaking in first person. In the fourth part we intended to create tensions between that sentence of On Kawara in the context of permanent connection of the subject in the contemporary through an "action" of the author in the city of Sao Paulo, which included posters with the phrase "I am still alive" and distribution of a video by e-mail. Confronting this "action" with the authors and artists studied, the conclusions indicates that it is through interventions in the ways of life homogenous created by the new technologies of communication that we can create spaces for singularization of contemporary subjectivity / Esta pesquisa discute as formas pelas quais as tecnologias de comunicação criam modos de vida implicando em formas de subjetividade.

Klavírní dílo Josefa Bohuslava Foerstera / The Piano Works of Josef Bohuslav Foerster

Havlíček, Zdeněk January 2013 (has links)
Zdeněk Havlíček The Piano Works of Josef Bohuslav Foerster (The Lyrical Piano Pieces of the Turn of the Century) ABSTRACT: The presented thesis deals with the piano works of Josef Bohuslav Foerster - in detail, it is concerned with his lyrical piano pieces from the turn of the century. After mapping out the relevant Foerster-related literature and sources, it approaches the issue of lyrical piano piece as a music genre, and gives a relatively detailed outline of its development in the 19th century. This becomes a background against which, at some points, the nature of the analyzed pieces is to be shown. In the analysis of the piano cycle "Snění" ("Dreamings", 1898), the motivic and thematic processes are the main object, the analysis of the cycle "Růže vzpomínek" ("Roses of Memories", 1902) is dominated by the aspect of harmony and also takes into consideration the context of the various piano genres employed. From the cycle "A jabloně kvetly" ("And the Apple trees blossom", 1905), only the first piece ("Dream") is closely observed. Finally, an attempt is made to discuss the piano works in question in broader musical-historical and musical- historiographical contexts.

Písňová tvorba J. B. Foerstera: Šest písní na básně Puškinovy op. 161 / Works of Songs by J. B. Foerster: The Six Songs Based on Puskin's Poems Op. 161

Tománková, Jana January 2011 (has links)
The song genre constitutes a significant part of J. B. Foertser's work (around 350 songs). In the Czech musical context, Foerster is along with Vítězslav Novák considered a founder of modern Czech song. Despite its unquestionable significance, Foerster's song output remains an unexplored area in musicology. The aim of this diploma thesis is to contribute to the body of scholarship devoted to Foerster by focusing on this area of his work, which has not received adequate critical attention. The main part of the thesis consists of detailed musical-textual analyses of the song cycle Šest písní na básně Puškinovy op. 161 (1937). Through the analyses, the thesis examines the composer's approach to the setting texts to music and points out the qualities of his work. The discussion gives an overview of Foerster's song output and outlines the main critical concerns in this area of his work. The last but one chapter of the thesis compares opus 161 with selected Foerster's song cycles from his previous work periods and an attempt is made to put the opus into the context of the composer's song output as a whole. In the conclusion, opus 161 is discussed in the context of the Czech and, more generally, European song productions.

Giant Plasmonic Energy and Momentum Transfer on the Nanoscale

Durach, Maxim 16 October 2009 (has links)
We have developed a general theory of the plasmonic enhancement of many-body phenomena resulting in a closed expression for the surface plasmon-dressed Coulomb interaction. It is shown that this interaction has a resonant nature. We have also demonstrated that renormalized interaction is a long-ranged interaction whose intensity is considerably increased compared to bare Coulomb interaction over the entire region near the plasmonic nanostructure. We illustrate this theory by re-deriving the mirror charge potential near a metal sphere as well as the quasistatic potential behind the so-called perfect lens at the surface plasmon (SP) frequency. The dressed interaction for an important example of a metal–dielectric nanoshell is also explicitly calculated and analyzed. The renormalization and plasmonic enhancement of the Coulomb interaction is a universal effect, which affects a wide range of many-body phenomena in the vicinity of metal nanostructures: chemical reactions, scattering between charge carriers, exciton formation, Auger recombination, carrier multiplication, etc. We have described the nanoplasmonic-enhanced Förster resonant energy transfer (FRET) between quantum dots near a metal nanoshell. It is shown that this process is very efficient near high-aspect-ratio nanoshells. We have also obtained a general expression for the force exerted by an electromagnetic field on an extended polarizable object. This expression is applicable to a wide range of situations important for nanotechnology. Most importantly, this result is of fundamental importance for processes involving interaction of nanoplasmonic fields with metal electrons. Using the obtained expression for the force, we have described a giant surface-plasmoninduced drag-effect rectification (SPIDER), which exists under conditions of the extreme nanoplasmonic confinement. Under realistic conditions in nanowires, this giant SPIDER generates rectified THz potential differences up to 10 V and extremely strong electric fields up to 10^5-10^6 V/cm. It can serve as a powerful nanoscale source of THz radiation. The giant SPIDER opens up a new field of ultraintense THz nanooptics with wide potential applications in nanotechnology and nanoscience, including microelectronics, nanoplasmonics, and biomedicine. Additionally, the SPIDER is an ultrafast effect whose bandwidth for nanometric wires is 20 THz, which allows for detection of femtosecond pulses on the nanoscale.

Zhudebněná poezie J.V.Sládka s bibliografií skladeb / J.V.Sládek poems set to music supplemented with a bibliography of pieces

Tůmová, Romana January 2021 (has links)
This diploma thesis deals with the topic of setting the poems of Josef Václav Sládek to music. The main source of the analyzed data is a bibliographic list of compositions, which was compiled after my own research in the databases and catalogues of the National Library of Czech Republic, the Municipal Library in Prague and Czech Museum of Music, as well as in specialised literature. The first chapter briefly summarizes the general principles of setting poetry to music and then it focuses on particular aspects of Sládek's poetics, which encourage composers to set his poems to music. The first chapter also outlines Sládek's poetics in different poetry collections. The second chapter gives a detailed analysis of the compiled bibliographic list of compositions in terms of the frequency in which particular poems have been set to music, the number of works composed by different authors, vocal and instrumental cast, and also time contexts. The third, and the most comprehensive chapter, is divided in accordance with the proposed semantically significant thematic areas of Sládek's poetic work - love poetry, poetry for children, peasantism and folk echo poetry and militantpatriotism. In the subchapters, Sládek's work is at first viewed through a literary prism, then the author attempts a musical analysis and...
