Diagrama, dobra e parâmetro: assimilação de conceitos filosóficos e tecnologias digitais na arquitetura contemporânea / Diagram, fold and parameter: assimilation of philosophical concepts and digital technologies in contemporary architecture

Rodrigo Scheeren 19 February 2016 (has links)
Through an interdisciplinary perception, the research presents a contribution framework for the theory of contemporary architecture that examines some relations between concepts, processes and representations. The work investigates design processes present in contemporary architecture from the assimilation of three key concepts: 1) diagram 2) fold and 3) parameter; and corresponding translations in architecture through the discourses and practices of architects. The research falls within the sphere of the theory and criticism of architecture design and the historical period is set between the 1970s up to now, examining the projective expressions and theories of architects such as Peter Eisenman, Greg Lynn, Patrik Schumacher (Zaha Hadid and partners), among others. The problem of research is to identify how the conceptual nature experienced by design processes in the first period of study - diagram - began to intermediate a parallel theoretical basis for the advancement of digital use - fold - and changed in a third period to emphasize discursively processes and formal manipulation allowed by the technical and advanced digital technologies - parameter. The objectives are understand the elements of this transition, draw parallels and differences between the processes, understanding that the history of these entanglements is not linear and cumulative, but crossed by recurrences and reappropriations. The authors were chosen due to their theoretical production and insertion in the international debate on the topics chosen, for sharing the assimilation of theories stemming from the philosophical basis of post-structuralism - especially from Gilles Deleuze - as well as established a design activity of experimental features, which allowed the analysis of several case studies.

Transformada Wavelet na detecÃÃo de patologias da laringe / Wavelet Transform in the detection of pathologies of the larynx

Raphael Torres Santos Carvalho 12 March 2012 (has links)
The amount of non-invasive methods of diagnosis has increased due to the need for simple, quick and painless tests. Due to the growth of technology that provides the means for extraction and signal processing, new analytical methods have been developed to help the understanding of analysis of the complexity of the voice signals. This dissertation presents a new idea to characterize signals of healthy and pathological voice based on one mathematical tools widely known in the literature, Wavelet Transform (WT). The speech data were used in this work consists of 60 voice samples divided into four classes of samples: one from healthy individuals and three from people with vocal fold nodules, Reinkeâs edema and neurological dysphonia. All the samples were recorded using the vowel /a/ in Brazilian Portuguese. The obtained results by all the pattern classifiers studied indicate that the proposed approach using WT is a suitable technique to discriminate between healthy and pathological voices, since they perform similarly to or even better than classical technique, concerning recognition rates.

Cunha, Edilson Oliveira 11 August 2006 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Microvascularization of human superior membranous vocal folds tends to be parallel to the long axis. This pattern of microvascularization changes with disease. The objective this study was to describe microvascular changes in the human vocal folds with polypoid alterations as differential diagnosis with other laryngeal diseases. A retrospective study was conducted to describe alterations in the microvasculature of the vocal folds of eleven patients having polyps, who underwent laryngeal microsurgery and subsequent rigid and contact laryngoscopy. To study the microvascular changes, D Ávila (2002) classification was used. The vocal folds were divided in three regions: superior membranous, superior cartilaginous, and subglottic. The twelve types of microvessels described by D Ávila were identified in the study and 74 altered microvessels were found; dilated parallel and branching micro vessels predominated. Our findings highlight that microvascularization of the vocal folds changes with polyp formation; and the presence of branching microvessels in the surface of vocal cord lesions suggests a diagnosis of polyp formation.

This work is proposed to consider the printed copies of the drawings, collages, paintings, etc. The visual artist juizforano, Arlindo Daibert, in particular, the series of novel Andrade-north of our investigation between the novel and film Mario de Andrade, Daibert and / or other hypertexts of the same work-from the point of view of the dialogue between texts, is the pictorial Western canon, is the western literature and / or national. The existence of printed reproductions of works of art not intended to books corroborate the estimates of Walter Benjamin in "The work of art at the time of its reproducibility technique." From a reflection inherent in the postulates of Gerard Genette, with regard to the text of second-investigate the meticulous work of Arlindo Daibert, which drew from hipotextos, the European canon, several hypertexts imageticos that printed their works in the critical vision and inquiring of South American artist. The combination of Arlindo Daibert, artist nato, and Arlindo Daibert, man of literary training, imageticas generated translations of works: Alice in Wonderland, Lewis Carroll, Andrade de Andrade, Mario de Andrade and Grande Sertao: Veredas, Joao Guimaraes Rosa. Lynyrd with the aim of producing and encourage knowledge and culture, held, not illustrations accompanying narratives, but hypertexts, which express the view that the artist had each of the literary works of authors, the time in which they were produced and, even more, similar to the volute baroque, Daibert adds to their translations details that relate to yourself, to your work, to your season, its context juizforano and Brazil, all of this, a set-shaped spiral that expands to infinity.

The Trinity and the religions : an assessment of Gavin D'Costa's Trinitarian theology of religions with reference to the patristic Trinitarianism of Basil of Caesarea

Tan, Loe-Joo January 2012 (has links)
As a key contributor to the current discussion of the Catholic theology of religions, Gavin D'Costa's writings represent a consistent attempt to utilize the resources of the doctrine of the Trinity to address a number of issues regarding the theological significance and function of religions in the salvific plan of God. The aim of this thesis is to examine critically his Trinitarian theology of religions through the lens of a main proponent of patristic theology, Basil of Caesarea, and through a historical-systematic study, address the question of whether his underlying Trinitarianism is consonant with classical Trinitarian theology. After a discussion of Vatican II and post-Conciliar sources, the main contours of D'Costa's theology are highlighted through an interpretive grid of particularity/universality (Christology/Pneumatology) with a second-order universality/particularity. Despite his distancing from the three-fold typology of exclusivism-inclusivism-pluralism, we analyzed that much of his theology continues to fall within the category of traditional inclusivism, particularly since his recent proposal of the limbo of the Fathers contained serious difficulties pertaining to his intention to maintain a singular OT Judaism-Christianity relationship. Next, we examined the main features of Basilian Trinitarianism, and proposed that three major themes are of relevance for a comparative analysis with D'Costa's theology, namely, (1) the doctrines of divine simplicity and inseparable operations, (2) the enlightening work of the Spirit, and (3) the theology of baptism and theosis. Throughout the discussion, in recognition that Basil's thought is part of the patristic theological matrix of his time, we will also reference the writings of other Church Fathers, including Gregory of Nyssa, Gregory of Nazianzus, and Augustine. We concluded that while in Basil's theology, economy, relationality and ethics are intricately woven into each other, D'Costa's system, despite its significant merits, was at risk of disaffiliating the connections between the three.

Phylogeography and speciation in the genus arthroleptella

Turner, Andrew Alexander January 2009 (has links)
Philosophiae Doctor - PhD / Moss frogs are restricted to permanently moist terrestrial habitats in the south-western Cape Fold Mountains. There is a very close association between Arthroleptella distribution and Table Mountain Sandstone. Suitable habitats are generally occupied by allopatric populations of moss frogs. Comprehensive spatial sampling of moss frogs (genus Arthroleptella) in the Cape Floristic Region biodiversity hotspot yielded 192 new distribution records; 5 842 advertisement calls from 240 individual male frogs; 31 Rag-1,76 16S, 54 12S sequences and morphological measurements of 90 specimens. There are many differences in male advertisement call and genetic sequences between populations on different mountain ranges, even over small distances. A mitochondrial and nuclear gene phylogeny of the southern African Pyxicephalidae places Natalobatrachus as the sister genus to Arthroleptella. Application of a Bayesian relaxed molecular clock model indicates that Arthroleptella arose between 20 and 39 Ma. Phylogenetic trees return two main clades within Arthroleptella: one consists of species which exhibit chirp-like calls and the second contains species with longer calls composed of a series of clicks. These two clades diverged between 19 and 22 Ma. There is a general pattern of strong phylogeographic structure with many small, isolated populations. Three species are identified within the Chirping clade and seven in the Clicking clade, including three undescribed species. This population structure is a result of the patchy distribution of suitable habitat and low vagility of the moss frogs. The distribution and speciation of moss frogs has been affected by drying and cooling climate change, changing geomorphology over the last 20 Ma and the increasing prevalence of fire over the last 5 Ma. An assessment of the threat status of each species according to IUCN criteria categorised one species as Least Concern, seven as Near Threatened, one as Vulnerable and one as Critically Endangered. The primary threats to Arthroleptella are invasive alien plants and increased fire frequencies and intensities.

Použití fluidně-strukturní interakce u kmitajících lidských hlasivek / Application of Fluid-structure Interaction on Oscillating Human Vocal Folds

Meisner, Patrik January 2021 (has links)
The presented thesis is involved in the biomechanics of phonation. The aim of the thesis is to set a fluid-structure interaction between the vocal folds and air flow when the pressure from lungs reaches the physiological values. In the expected outcome the self-oscillating vocal folds should be observable with characteristics shape-shift from convergent to divergent. In theory part of the thesis is described Anatomy of the vocal tract, physiology of the human phonation, research of computational simulations, experiments and visualisation methods are described in the theory part of the thesis. In the second part, setup of computational simulation with the finite element method is presented. Besides of the fluid-structure interaction the acoustical model is set. Achieved results are presented and compared to the results in literature. Displacements are evaluated from the structural model and pressures, velocities and flow velocities are evaluated from fluid model, so as acoustics results.

Klíma, Jaromír January 2009 (has links)
Master thesis deals with creating of the numerical model of the human vocal folds. Calculation algorithm is designed to include vocal chordsinteraction with the air flow. Analysis of the results achieved by the numerical simulations and calculations are focused on the pressure and velocity conditions in the areas under vocal folds, between vocal folds and above vocal folds. Movement and stress analysis of individual layers of vocal folds has been made. This analysis is limited only for physiological health vocal folds without pathology and disease. Modal analysis of structural and acoustic environment, backround research of vocal folds function and summary of some published overviews of numerical models is part of this work.

Approaches based on tree-structures classifiers to protein fold prediction

Mauricio-Sanchez, David, de Andrade Lopes, Alneu, higuihara Juarez Pedro Nelson 08 1900 (has links)
Protein fold recognition is an important task in the biological area. Different machine learning methods such as multiclass classifiers, one-vs-all and ensemble nested dichotomies were applied to this task and, in most of the cases, multiclass approaches were used. In this paper, we compare classifiers organized in tree structures to classify folds. We used a benchmark dataset containing 125 features to predict folds, comparing different supervised methods and achieving 54% of accuracy. An approach related to tree-structure of classifiers obtained better results in comparison with a hierarchical approach. / Revisión por pares

Parametric stability analyses for fluid-loaded thin membranes

Zhou, Yang January 2015 (has links)
Membrane structures are commonly used in many elds. The studies of thesestructures are of increasing interest. The two projects focus on the evaluations ofequilibrium states for uid-pressurized membranes under dierent loading conditions, and the corresponding instability behavior. The rst part of the current work discusses the instability behavior of a thin, planar, circular and initially horizontal membrane subjected to downwards or upwards uid pressure. The membrane structures exhibit large deformations under uid pressure. Various instability behaviors have been observed for dierent loadingparameters. Limit and bifurcation points have been detected for dierent loadingconditions. Dierent loading parameters have been used to interpret the instabilitybehavior. The eects on instability of parameters, the initial states of the membrane, and the chosen mesh have been discussed. The second part of the current work discusses instability behavior of a thin, spherical and closed membrane containing gas and uid placed on a horizontal rigidand non-friction plane. A multi-parametric loading has been described. By addingthe practically relevant controlling equations, the complex equilibrium paths werefollowed using the generalized path following algorithm, and the stability conclusionswere made dierently, according to the considered load parameters and theconstraints. A generalized eigenvalue analysis was used to evaluate the stabilitybehavior including the constraint eects. Fold line evaluations were performed toanalyze the parametric dependence of the instability behavior. A solution surfaceapproach was used to visualize the mechanical response under this multi-parametricsetting. / <p>QC 20151029</p>
