It is the photograph that plays a crucial role in shaping the awareness of one's own identity and belonging to a community. Through photographs, on the one hand, we perceive the world and store our individual (Van Dijck, 2005) as well as our collective memory (Pink, 2011). On the other hand, photographs serve as a means of self-expression (Tinkler, 2008). Moreover, today's time is greatly fragmented, discontinuous, and episodic, which, on the other hand, leads human individuals to constantly legitimize themselves as unique and authentic individuals (Bauman, 2002). Furthermore, this constant communication via photographs requires a continual adaptation to the media messages, which puts an increased emphasis on visual communication as a field of social sciences, tightly connected to media studies. Petra Bolková will be examining in her thesis the evolution of photography used on book covers in the 1960s; the period marked with certain political and cultural liberation. This study will attempt describing systematically in what ways certain artists and writers collaborated and what the difficulties of these collaborations were. It will also be examined how the author of a book and the artist delegated to design the book cover; the initial advertisement for a book, were influencing each other. What is more, the extent to which the graphic art reflects the content of the written word will be studied. Book covers became a covert space for experimenting with or even establishing new trends in the 1960s. Books covers became a new, independent fine art discipline which, essentially, was censored or criticized only occasionally. The goal of this thesis will also be gradually finding the numerous common grounds between photography, book typography and the final design, as photography and photomontage were used on book covers more frequently then classic original illustrations. Last but not least, this thesis will be looking at what emphasis was put on the visual side and how it was conditioned culturally or politically ect.

Leaf area index (LAI) is the most important variable influencing the penetration of solar radiation beams through the forest stand. Currently, the airborne laser scanning, as new indirect method, suggests itself for estimation of LAI. LAI was measured terrestrially using the hemispherical photographies analysis and compared with LiDAR Penetration Index - LPI. There were created several regression models describing the dependence of LAI and LPI with coefficients of determination from 0.71 up to 0.81. Leaf area index was also applied to the Beer-Lambert law for calculation of the solar radiation in forest stands. Practical application possibilities of LPI in forestry (estimation of stocking, optimization of shelterwood cuttings etc.) have been described in conclusion of this diploma thesis.

The theses deals with the influence of social environment on issues related to pupil´s transition from the first grade of primary school to the second grade. This transition is a challenge for all children, but it is particularly challenging for disadvantaged children who sometimes even cease to regularly attend primary school. The research is based on qualitative research methods (case study, photo elicitation). The research was conducted primarily in the Salesian Centre in České Budejovice.

Objective of this dissertation was to study possibilities of detection of subsurface drainage systems by unmanned aerial vehicles. Unmanned aerial vehicles, "drones", served to military purpose in the past. Nowadays these unmanned aerial vehicles helps to map drainage on fields because it is hard to get draining plans today and a big part do not match with the actual implementation of drainage systems. We can also add that nobody cares about drainage today. Drainage drains of soaked soil and improve its harvest. Drainage facilitates transport of nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) to watercourses. Fields changes over time to parcels. There is description of sorting and functionality of drainage systems as well as description of malfunctions and used material in theoretical part. There is also description of unmanned aerial vehicles and a method of detection of subsurface drainage systems . Besides there is detailed description of the locality, function of drainage system and evaluation. There is description of indication of drainage on specialized aerial photography. Indications are compared with period plans. Methods of highlighting indications are applied and evaluated by programs Agisoft PhotoScan Professional and Arc GIS 10.1. Main results are photographies that demonstrate location of drainages. Using ground control points the image converted into the coordinate system.

.Wedding traditions and customs vary greatly between cultures, ethnic groups, religions, countries, and social classes, which makes the wedding a diverse and unique experience from almost every point of view. The analysis of tehcniques and aesthetic styles, paying special attencion to color and other visual narrative elements, is ides to argue that wedding films should be considered a new genre, as a new and unique way of filmmaikng.

This dissertation is the very first scholarly text to bring a wider perspective on the genesis of Czech sport journalism, starting with its beginnings in the latter half of the 1800's and extending to the year of 1918, when this profession became an independent branch of the newspaper business. Given the paucity of original literature, the present work is based primarily on the study of period newspapers and archival materials, employing mainly the direct and the indirect methods of historiography. The main purpose of it was to describe the formation of the discipline of sport journalism in the broader context of the Czech society, sports and media, rather than regarding it as an independent, isolated process. The constituent parts of this dissertation, which renders the dawn of Czech sport journalism, include the most important titles of the day as well as the key personalities in the publishing and journalism of the period, the issue of sport reportage within the established political press, and also the genesis of the professions of sport journalist and sport photographer. The chapters that place the main theme within a wider historical context compare the brief description of the evolution of sport journalism in the Czech lands to the origins of sport journalism in other countries (Great Britain, USA,...

The thesis examines the relationship between (photographic) image and text in two novels accompanied by photographs: Georges Rodenbach's Bruges-la-Morte and The Rings of Saturn by W. G. Sebald. As in the essence of photographic image lies the question of its relation to reality, we decided to make from the theme of relation between reality and fiction, which differs according the type of representation, our central theme. The thesis is also concerned with the themes of passing, mourning and order, which connect examined novels. Our interpretation is based mainly on Roland Barthes' theoretical text Le message photographique in which he defines various types of photographic connotation that we search in analyzed phototexts. Concerning the partial theme of connection between photograph and death we base our analysis on Barthes' Camera Lucida, than we proceed mainly from the essays of the collection Co je to fotografie which concern with photographic pose (Thierry de Duve), photograph and remembering (André Bazin), photograph and mirror (Craig Owens).

This diploma thesis is focused on conceptual design of photo-stock web application, which uses information management to a comprehensive solution to the problem. The first part deals with the problem definition and related areas, as well as theoretical base. There are explained main terms that relate to photo-stock business and web application technologies. Since the proposal is focused on the area of electronic sales, attention here is focused on the current form of e-commerce, statistics and specifics, which arise from the electronic shopping. Then are mentioned characteristics of two methodologies - MMDIS methodology, which focuses on the multidimensional approach to system design and Chackland soft systems methodology. Methodologies and their phases are used to identify areas that need to be addressed in the proposal. Finally, describes the principles for designing successful web applications and basic parts of web audit. The second part is focused on understanding the complex situation that concerns the intention of creating a photo-stock business draft. There are identified lines of business, objectives and strategies of the organization. Based on the company's award is presented a basic specification of the application and the required functionality. Further segmentation is performed by potential customers. System approaches are defined by the root system definitions. Then are introduced analysis of competition and SWOT analysis, which is made from two views of access to the system. Summarized and discussed are economic and technical aspects of the proposal, including the income model. It is performed process system (identify processes, their connections and their information needs). Furthermore, the proposal deals with the possibilities of outsourcing in the data storage and networking basic parts of the system. All this information is transformed into the final design solution. This is outlined in terms of customer, vendor and business perspective. They are presented modified processes that were created in the process analysis. The specification and the design is formulated by questions and answers that bring the system. The following is a brief comparison with competing projects and an outline of further development options. The conclusion includes an appraisal of the work and its benefits.
