This ethnographic study of a group of young men living in “Mundo Novo” (New World), a neighborhood in the outskirts of Juiz de Fora (MG), is a thick description based upon accounts and reflections in dialogue with personal observations and interpretations. A theoretical and methodological approach was developed in the interaction with them. The research question aims to understand these youngsters' moving in large groups through the city streets, albeit the contact with them and most of the here treated subject matters focus on their experiences on the streets and other shared spaces in their own neighborhood. Drawing upon a field research conducted in 2014 and 2015, the author seeks to describe and analyze a set of practices represented by a multitude of typically juvenile, social constructs and reinterpretations. Being part of the New World´s jig as a cohesive and stable group involves a special relationship with the birthplace where these young people grew up, and with the parents-and-grandparents’ generational experiences, which encompasses a daily production of a "different style". The research found that their strong bonds of friendship reveal shared experiences that motivate them to set up varied ways of expression and belonging, which translate into friendship experiences, style buildings and rivalry feelings. The thesis discusses the events shared and experienced by this group of young people, how these events become significant for a youth sociality built on a daily basis.

This study aims to establish relationships between Antiquity, contemporary world in an effort to make a compared history of the production of these subjectivities through the concept of "uses of the past". We have then friendship as one of the producers of these subjectivities. The study will center in the period of the Late Roman Republic and. The analysis then identifies by which means classical friendship and its rhetoric (especially amicitia) was reappropriated/reinterpreted and how this interpretation promotes either a feeling of closeness or distance between these different ages. Subsequently it develops the concepts of the roman amicitia and modern friendship as well as the values that are attached with each of them. At last, the study analyzes how different perspectives of the classical friendship, particularly the roman one, influenced in the construction of different ideas and perceptions of roman society / Mestrado / Historia Cultural / Mestre em História

Tecer amizade, habitar o deserto: uma etnografia do quilombo Família Magalhães (GO) / Weaving friendship, inhabiting the desert: an ethnography of the maroon community Família Magalhães (GO)Daniela Carolina Perutti 11 December 2015 (has links)
This thesis derives from an ethnography of a rural black community named Família Magalhães (Nova Roma-GO), originated in the Kalunga territory. Since that group is recognized by the Brazilian State as a maroon community, I tried to discuss specific ways in which it produces relations between relatives and non-relatives. By the latter case, I mean agents of the federal and state governments, presidents of the republic, deputies, prosecutors, lawyers, mayors, councilors and also acquaintances, neighbors, cronies and cohorts. In this plot, cultivating friends and engaging politically appear as privileged ways of weaving territories, which are understood by its relational character, always subject to being traversed by relations of agonistic character. Thus, I investigated how continuous movements of production of bonds and segmentations are managed among members of Família Magalhães, bringing up particular agencies of this group regarding their experience of otherness.

Amigos e competidores: política faccional e feitiçaria nos Potiguara da Paraíba / Friends and Competitors: Factional politic and witchcraft on the Potiguara from ParaibaJosé Glebson Vieira 26 July 2010 (has links)
This thesis presents an investigation on the Potiguara policy and consists in examining the formation of different positions as chiefship and leadership and the factional politics. The line of approach adopted focuses on the role of friendship, fellowship, witchcraft and accusation conflicts in sociopolitical processes and in the political factional game of aggregations in \"kinship\" and \"groups\". It is structured in three analysis levels: The first focuses in the production of kinship and the regimes of territoriality, with the aim of understanding the native construction about history and kinship and how the area is used by the Potiguara, as well as the management of relations between themselves and others. The second level assesses the native formulations about the language of the mixture and the civilization theme in the Potiguara statement on temporality, by the analysis of the Indian Census in 2006, in order to understand the native ethno sociology, and therefore the gradients of classification of relations of otherness. And the third level observes the construction of the policy starting from the native conceptions of\" being chief\" and \"being a leader\" and is intended to outline the elaborations on the action and political representation. Considering the contexts of production of chiefs and leaders and factional disputes, the political comprehension, proposed here, explains: The investment figured in the composite unit by the leadership that assumes the establishment of the political field and the definition of the chief himself, as the subject differently, by accumulation, potentiating and canalizing of subjectivities, relations ownership, people, goods, and exterior resources; and the movement to make and unmake groups whose political action - of the leader - attempts to introduce the multiplicity and heterogeneity, and shows a tendency to non-fixity, the segmentarity and the inclusion of the non-human, by witchcraft and catimbó in social life and politics among humans.

figuras expoentes do Partido

linguistically the criticism

The corpus consists of the
principal episodes of friendly fire involving the
ministers of Lula´s government and

loyalty to the team - should be

From the latin sources to the novel of the enlightenmentBen Sassi, Salwa 16 December 2010 (has links)
Rousseau’s elegy deals with the themes of the lament for the death, of the absence and of the loss of one beloved. Rousseau seems to be influenced by the latin poets such as Tibulle, Propers and Ovide. Nevertheless, he is distinguished from them by the way, with which he treats the motifs. These are submitted to the nature of the characters in the novel of Julie ou la Nouvelle Héloïse. In addition, Rousseau uses these motifs in different other contexts. Then, elegy becomes a source of "tools" to say an idea or a point of view. Rousseau’s elegy is more than a statement of complaints or a sad love story: it is an art of writing.

Predicting Friendship Levels in Online Social NetworksAhmad, Waqar, Riaz, Asim January 2010 (has links)
Abstract Context: Online social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace have become the preferred interaction, entertainment and socializing facility on the Internet. However, these social network services also bring privacy issues in more limelight than ever. Several privacy leakage problems are highlighted in the literature with a variety of suggested countermeasures. Most of these measures further add complexity and management overhead for the user. One ignored aspect with the architecture of online social networks is that they do not offer any mechanism to calculate the strength of relationship between individuals. This information is quite useful to identify possible privacy threats. Objectives: In this study, we identify users’ privacy concerns and their satisfaction regarding privacy control measures provided by online social networks. Furthermore, this study explores data mining techniques to predict the levels/intensity of friendship in online social networks. This study also proposes a technique to utilize predicted friendship levels for privacy preservation in a semi-automatic privacy framework. Methods: An online survey is conducted to analyze Facebook users’ concerns as well as their interaction behavior with their good friends. On the basis of survey results, an experiment is performed to justify practical demonstration of data mining phases. Results: We found that users are concerned to save their private data. As a precautionary measure, they restrain to show their private information on Facebook due to privacy leakage fears. Additionally, individuals also perform some actions which they also feel as privacy vulnerability. This study further identifies that the importance of interaction type varies while communication. This research also discovered, “mutual friends” and “profile visits”, the two non-interaction based estimation metrics. Finally, this study also found an excellent performance of J48 and Naïve Bayes algorithms to classify friendship levels. Conclusions: The users are not satisfied with the privacy measures provided by the online social networks. We establish that the online social networks should offer a privacy mechanism which does not require a lot of privacy control effort from the users. This study also concludes that factors such as current status, interaction type need to be considered with the interaction count method in order to improve its performance. Furthermore, data mining classification algorithms are tailor-made for the prediction of friendship levels.

The Friendship Group Motivational Systems: Naturally-Occurring Resources and Liabilities During the Transition to High SchoolFurrer, Carrie Jeanne 01 February 2005 (has links)
Peer groups are a powerful part of young people's lives. As the first step in investigating the potential of peers as developmental resources or liabilities during the normatively stressful transition to high school, the purpose of this study was to identify and measure the features of peer relationships that shape healthy development, and the contextual conditions that promote them. The Friendship Group Motivational System (FGMS) is a new conceptualization that includes two individual level concepts (friendship group interactions and self-system processes), and an emergent motivational group-level concept (friendship group engagement and disaffection). Items were developed to measure the 13 constructs making up the three core FGMS concepts. A sample of 443 freshman students completed a battery of questionnaires, including the FGMS construct items. Participants were also asked to nominate their ninth grade school friends; the reciprocated nominations were used to calculate composite group profile scores for friendship group engagement and disaffection. In a series of confirmatory factor analyses, nine of the 13 FGMS constructs were successfully derived and replicated. Dimensionality analyses revealed that many of the FGMS measures were not sufficiently distinct. The extent to which individuals and their reciprocally nominated friends agreed on their friendship group engagement and disaffection varied a great deal. Nevertheless, all of the new measures functioned well. All 13 FGMS constructs were related to similar measures, which is evidence of construct validity. Although the measures were differentially reliable for subgroups of adolescents, all of the within- and between-construct relationships occurred as hypothesized. The unique relationships found between the three FGMS concepts suggest that individual and group processes should be conceptualized and measured separately. The FGMS constructs were also related to indicators of high school transition stress, academic engagement, and personal and social adjustment. This research makes a significant contribution to the peer relations field by positing specific ways in which friendship groups support or undermine adolescents' healthy functioning, and by providing new tools for testing these relationships. The FGMS model can be used to explain the relationship between peer groups and long term development, to examine how peers influence individual coping, and to develop new school-based interventions.

Känslans patriark : sensibilitet och känslopraktiker i Carl Christoffer Gjörwells familj och vänskapskrets, ca 1790-1810 / Patriarch of feeling : sensibility and emotional practices in the family and friendship circle of Carl Christoffer Gjörwell, c. 1790-1810Lindblom, Ina January 2017 (has links)
This dissertation is a study of how the culture of sensibility was expressed in the everyday practices and social relations of the Gjörwell family. Headed by publicist, publisher and royal librarian Carl Christoffer Gjörwell (1731-1811), the Gjörwell family served as the centre of a wide circle of friends in late 18th-century Stockholm. Gjörwell has been regarded as one of the first Swedish representatives of 18th-century sensibility as well as an archetype of the Swedish cult of friendship. Due to his effusive emotional expressiveness and passionate friendships with other men, Gjörwell has largely been derided as effeminate by researchers from the 19th century onwards. Using theoretical perspectives from the field of the history of emotions (more concretely the perspectives of William Reddy, Barbara Rosenwein and Monique Scheer) this study centres on the emotional practices of the Gjörwell family, especially taking aspects of gender, class, sexuality and power into account. Gjörwell’s vast collection of family and friendship correspondence forms the empirical basis of this study. This study shows that the Gjörwell family and circle of friends in many ways could be regarded as an emotional community in which primarily emotions of happiness and joy are expressed. Furthermore, this study shows how the exercise of power could form part in the creation of an emotional community, as Gjörwell makes constant attempts to influence the way family members and friends manage their emotions, strongly dissuading them from the expression of melancholy. Although he has been viewed as effeminate by posterity, Gjörwell in fact regards himself as manly. This is due to his ability to remain joyful through adversities which testifies to his strong, and therefore manly, nervous organisation. This study thus further illustrates how a marked shift in masculine gender norms took place between the 18th and 19th centuries. This study also shows how expression of tender emotion could be a way of reinforcing personal status. This was due to the close association made between sensibility and virtue, in itself a central concept during this era. As Gjörwell is denied recognition in his professional life, the expression of tender emotion – and thus of virtue – becomes an important aspect of his personal life.
