It uses as an information source furniture companies of the industrial park of Villa El Salvador. Its objective is to implement 6TOC methodology based on LEAN philosophy, Six Sigma and restrictions theory, focusing on improvements to the bottleneck. Defines the product design as an ideal input for the planning and development of activities. Start to know the work environment: stations and functions, machines and tools, plant layout and ergonomics in order to increase productivity. Application of tools level operations for planning, control and execution of production. Resulted in the GDP in the year 2017 increased by 2.2%. However, the manufacturing sector of goods decreased by 5.5%, that is, it impairs GDP growth, since the wood and furniture industry, which had an aggregate gross manufacturing value of −19.9%.

Upcycling in today’s society is still relatively rare, with most upcycling occurring in works by artists and product designers. This ‘creative reuse’ is a form of minimising waste products in a more effective process than recycling. This study deals with the design of an upcycling centre and how interior architecture is a framework for the upliftment of the host building in the Pretoria CBD, the model inhabitants (namely waste pickers and crafts people), waste materials and the surrounding environment. Many people perceive the self-starter occupation of streetwaste picking as being dirty and inferior. However, those who practice waste picking usually do so as a means of survival, and can offer valuable assistance in environmental sustainability. Waste pickers are often isolated as a social group – unable to reach higher income levels or living conditions. Ignorance around this informal economic sector has led to a divided and fragmented society, particularly within the Pretoria CBD (identified as the location for the intervention). Finding sustainable solutions to waste reuse and job creation, such as this proposed upcycling centre, which actively engage various members of society (in this case, waste pickers, crafts people and the broader community) is important. This is because such programmes can be beneficial to communities living in dense neighbourhoods, as they can provide the key blocks of cohesiveness and symbiosis for building a prosperous future. The interior architecture discipline is relevant here as being a tangible framework to enable cultural production of new objects, environmental sustainability, cultivation of human capital and a support system for model inhabitants. Waste material and discarded products can inform the character of an interior space, and reflect user intervention with built forms that echo the activity and daily routines within the community. As a facilitator, the interior architecture has been imagined to stimulate, inspire, revive and be perceived as a cyclic journey of renewal. This is the concept which governs the experience, activity and process for users entering the proposed upcycling centre. This proposed intervention of the identified Minty’s Tyres building utilises three theories to guide and inform its responses. Firstly, environmental psychology theory guides the alteration of the building to respond to community and social inclusion strategies. Secondly, adaptive reuse theory informs the alteration of the building in response to the new programme as a form of upcycling and improving the building’s user experience and resource efficiency. Finally, regenerative design theory based on restorative actions and technology is consulted to produce a system that is both efficient and sustainable. Increasing competition and technological improvements have created new challenges for the firms. In Turkey, low-tech small and medium scale furniture industry does not seem to be well equipped to compete in this respect due to their weak economic and cultural capital. Necessity of innovative and distinguishing design-led policies has already arisen for improving the position of the low-tech small and medium scale furniture producers. However, to generate effective policies for them, it is essential to understand the design process and production domain related to cultural factors which affect the position of design and the designer. Within this perspective, this thesis examines the position of design and the designer within the product development process in eight cases of small and medium scale furniture companies based on the data gathered from, firstly, in-depth interviews with the owners, and secondly, product development stories narrated by the owner, the designers and head of the production departments of the companies.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / O presente trabalho visou levantar e analisar dados sobre o desenvolvimento de design na produção contemporânea das indústrias moveleiras dos pólos de Bento Gonçalves e Flores da Cunha, no Rio Grande do Sul. Para tanto, foram abordadas questões referentes ao desenvolvimento brasileiro, de acordo com os aspectos social, cultural e industrial; à indústria moveleira, em relação aos panoramas internacional, nacional e sul-rio-grandense; aos processos de imigração, em especial a italiana, que se instalou na Serra Gaúcha; ao desenvolvimento industrial, principalmente moveleiro, no Rio Grande do Sul; à institucionalização do design neste Estado; aos designers gaúchos e seus escritórios; e aos pólos moveleiros da Serra Gaúcha, representados pelas cidades de Bento Gonçalves e Flores da Cunha. A partir dessa fundamentação teórica, realizou-se uma pesquisa de campo que abrangeu nove empresas moveleiras dos pólos citados. Dessa forma, chegou-se a resultados apresentados pelo panorama pesquisado que propiciaram a discussão sobre a produção moveleira dessa região. / The following paper aimed at researching and analyzing the data about the design development in the contemporary production of furniture industries in Bento Gonçalves and Flores da Cunha towns, in Rio Grande do Sul state. For doing so, some questions about the following topics were considered: the Brazilian development, according to social, cultural and industrial aspects; the furniture industry, in relation to the international, national and sul-rio-grandense views; the processes of immigration, especially the Italian one, installed in the Serra Gaúcha; the industrial development, mainly the furniture one, in Rio Grande do Sul state; the institutionalization of design in this state; the gauchos designers and their offices; and the furniture poles of the Serra Gaúcha, represented by Bento Gonçalves e Flores da Cunha towns. From this theoretical base, a field research, which involved nine furniture companies placed the cities previously quoted, was done. Then, the results achieved presented the researched view and enabled some discussion about the furniture production in such region.

Hållbarhet handlar om att främja välfärd nu, och i all tid framöver, genom att ta hänsyn till egologiska, sociala och ekonomiska aspekter. Det handlar om att tillgodose dagens behov utan att förstöra möjligheterna för kommande generationer att tillgodose sina. Vårt examensarbete undersöker förutsättningarna för hållbar möbelproduktion. och vi gör detta genom ett flödesschema som skall användas vid uppstart av hållbart producerande företag. Idén bygger på att råvarorna utvinns och förädlas inom en femmilsradie. Vi hoppas kunna åstadkomma en djupare relation mellan användaren och objektet än vad endast köpande och ägande ger. Vi har valt att tydliggöra konstruktion och uppbyggnad, samtidigt som formen uppmanar förnuftet till kritiskt ifrågasättande av stabilitet och hållbarhet både konkret och i ett vidareperspektiv. Vi vill att objektet skall kunna utvecklas, individualiseras och anpassas efter användaren så att de tillsammans kan leva vidare in i ett samhälle vi ännu inte känner till. / Sustainability is about promoting prosperity now, and in the future, by taking into account ecological, social and economic factors. It is about meeting the demands of today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. Our thesis explores the conditions for sustainable furniture production through a flowchart, intended for use at the startup of sustainable manufacturing companies. The concept is based on the idea of raw materials being extracted and processed within a fifty kilometre radius. We hope to bring about a deeper relationship between user and object than that which comes with mere purchasing and ownership. We have chosen to make construction and structure apparent, while the design invites the mind to critical questioning of stability and sustainability, both in a literal and a wider sense. We want the object to be developed, personalised and tailored to the user, so that together they can live on in a society that we do not yet know

The focus of the diploma thesis is formulation of realistic business plan of a newly established company INEX plus Ltd. The core of its trade will be roof construction and personalized furniture production. The thesis consists of three parts. Theoretical part describes the foundation of the company and the structure of its business plan. Following sections analyze the internal and external environment of the company and formulate the business plan per se.
