Carlos, Marciane Linhares January 2017 (has links)
This work presents a survey carried out with 3rd year high school students from a private school in the metropolitan area of Porto Alegre, in which the objective was to analyze the contributions of GeoGebra software in the study of circumference, passing between different registers of semiotic representations, Algebraic and geometric, and using parameters to arrive at generalized reasoning. In order to carry out this research, the case study was used as methodology. Data collection was done through teacher/researcher observations, questions about the activities worked on GeoGebra, written records made by the students and the files with extension .ggb. A website was created with the sequence of activities applied in the classroom and the final works produced by the students, in which the use of parameters was used in GeoGebra, in order to get students to understand the elements of the circumference equation, generalize the reasoning and recognize the graphical and algebraic representations of the same mathematical object. The analysis of the collected data points out the importance of this tool in having instigated reflections in the students that led them to understand the circumference and the existing relations between the geometric and algebraic registers, triggering the process of conversion between these registers, and thus, knowledge of the object of study.

Predicting Human Behavior in Repeated Games with Attitude Vectors

James, Brian L. 06 August 2021 (has links)
As Artificial Intelligence systems are used by human users at an increasing frequency, the need for such systems to understand and predict human behavior likewise increases. In my work, I have considered how to predict human behavior in repeated games. These repeated games can be applied as a foundation to many situations where a person may interact with an AI, In an attempt to create such a foundation, I have built a system using Attitude Vectors used in automata to predict actions based on prior actions and communications. These Attitude Vector Automata (AVA) can transform information from actions in one game with a given payoff matrix into actions in another game. Results show that prediction accuracy was ultimately below other, similar work, in general in several repeated games. There are however some aspects, such as scenarios involving lying, in which my predictor showed potential to outperform these other systems. Ultimately, there is potential in using ideas presented as AVA to build a potentially more robust system for future efforts in human behavior prediction.

La capture attentionnelle : «transposabilité » du phénomène du laboratoire au monde réel / Attentional capture : from laboratory to real-world situations

Arexis, Mahé 27 September 2018 (has links)
During the last two decades, studies about attentional capture revealed some major basic attentional processes by using several experimental paradigms. While further investigations need to be conducted by using simple visual stimuli, a raising question concerns the possibility to generalize laboratory findings to much more complex real-world situations. Indeed, basic attentional capture studies usually use simple stimuli while real-world displays are generally rich in visual information. To answer this issue, we conducted several experiments under close to real-world conditions, such as testingdual task situations, using complex visual stimuli from real-world situations (e.g. driving-scenes photographs), modulating the distractor frequency or testing attentional capture at a semantic and conceptual dimension. Our results revealed the conditions in which the attentional capture phenomenon occurs in close to real-world situations. We particularly discussed in our work the contingent attentional capture phenomenon which appears to be a strong and robust effect, in both laboratory and close to real-world situations.

DEVELOPING CONCEPTUAL UNDERSTANDING AND PROCEDURAL FLUENCY IN ALGEBRA FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITY

Wojcik, Andrew J 01 January 2017 (has links)
Teaching students with Intellectual Disability (ID) is a relatively new endeavor. Beginning in 2001 with the passage of the No Child Left Behind Act, the general education curriculum integrated algebra across the K-12 curriculum (Kendall, 2011; National Governors Association Center for Best Practices & Council of Chief State School Officers, 2010), and expansion of the curriculum included five intertwined skills (productive disposition, procedural fluency, strategic competence, adaptive reasoning, and conceptual understanding) (Kilpatrick, Swafford, & Findell, 2001). Researchers are just beginning to explore the potential of students with ID with algebra (Browder, Spooner, Ahlgrim-Delzell, Harris & Wakeman, 2008; Creech-Galloway, Collins, Knight, & Bausch, 2013; Courtade, Spooner, Browder, & Jimenez, 2012; Göransson, Hellblom-Thibblin, & Axdorph, 2016). Most of the research examines the development of procedural fluency (Göransson et al., 2016) and few researchers have explored high school level skills. Using a single-case multiple-baseline across participants design, the study proposes to teach two algebra skills to six high school students with ID, creating an equation (y=mx+b) from a graph of a line and creating a graph from an equation. The six high school students with ID will be recruited from a school district in central Virginia. The intervention package modeled after Jimenez, Browder, and Courtade (2008), included modeling, templates, time delay prompting, and a task analysis. Results showed that all six individuals improved performance during intervention for the target skills over baseline; results also indicated that in three out of the six cases some generalization to the inverse skill occurred without supplemental intervention. The ability of individuals with ID to generalize the learning without intervention provides some evidence that individuals with ID are developing conceptual understanding while learning procedural fluency.

Zpracování obrazů ultrazvukového zobrazovacího systému GE VingMed System FiVe / Image processing of data from the ultrasound system GE VingMed System Five

Pokorný, Pavel January 2013 (has links)
The master thesis is focused on the principle of ultrasonographs and their modes, and ways of denoising data obtained by ultrasonographs. This project will also concentrate on removing the speckle noise, because the speckle noise has the largest share of the noise in the measured data in ultrasonographs. The other main objective was to describe advanced methods of filtration, especially the modifications of the median filter, such as the modified hybrid median filter and modification of the anisotropic diffusion, namely generalizing Perona-Malik anisotropic diffusion using restricted dissimilarity functions. These two filters were tested on images with artificial noise and on data captured using the ultrasound system GE VingMed System FiVe. Also, the program for filtering and display filtered ultrasound data captured by GE VingMed System FiVe is described.
