Towards Collaborative GUI-based TestingBauer, Andreas January 2023 (has links)
Context:Contemporary software development is a socio-technical activity requiring extensive collaboration among individuals with diverse expertise. Software testing is an integral part of software development that also depends on various expertise. GUI-based testing allows assessing a system’s GUI and its behavior through its graphical user interface. Collaborative practices in software development, like code reviews, not only improve software quality but also promote knowledge exchange within teams. Similar benefits could be extended to other areas of software engineering, such as GUI-based testing. However, collaborative practices for GUI-based testing necessitate a unique approach since general software development practices, perceivably, can not be directly transferred to software testing. Goal:This thesis contributes towards a tool-supported approach enabling collaborative GUI-based testing. Our distinct goals are (1) to identify processes and guidelines to enable collaboration on GUI-based testing artifacts and (2) to operationalize tool support to aid this collaboration. Method:We conducted a systematic literature review identifying code review guidelines for GUI-based testing. Further, we conducted a controlled experiment to assess the efficiency and potential usability issues of Augmented Testing. Results:We provided guidelines for reviewing GUI-based testing artifacts, which aid contributors and reviewers during code reviews. We further provide empirical evidence that Augmented Testing is not only an efficient approach to GUI-based testing but also usable for non-technical users, making it a promising subject for further research in collaborative GUI-based testing. Conclusion:Code review guidelines aid collaboration through discussions, and a suitable testing approach can serve as a platform to operationalize collaboration. Collaborative GUI-based testing has the potential to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of such testing.

The Desktop GPS Analyst is a personal computer (PC) based software application for the generation of GPS-based TSPI.

Comparing Compressor Interface Designs : How do visual displays on digital compressors impact how audio engineers navigate an interface and the choices they make?Eliasson, Simon January 2019 (has links)
This research tested to see how audio engineers navigate and use compressors differently with alternative designs. A pre-study in the form of a semi-structured interview with a focus group was held to determine a compressor considered having a “good design” and a compressor considered having a “bad design”. An active test was conducted with audio engineer students to investigate if there is any connection between time it takes for an engineer to navigate a compressor depending on its design. The test also investigated patterns in how audio engineers use compressors differently depending on their design, and what makes it easier to navigate and more satisfactory to use. 6 paired T-test were made between different compressor designs and a video and screen capture was annotated to investigate how audio engineers navigated the compressor. The results showed that 2 out of 6 T-tests gave a significant result, meaning that the time it took to navigate some of the compressors against each other were affected by the design of the compressor interface. Results showed that there are many contributing factor towards why a compressors is easier navigate and more satisfactory to use, but with a slight tendency that “parameter controls”, “visual information” and “aesthetically pleasing” are the most important factors. No findings on how engineers might use compressors differently depending on its design were found. Some additional patterns for audio engineers using compressors were found as well.

<p>Discharges of warfare bio aerosol clouds are powerful weapons in war and terror situations. A discharge of a small amount of a contagious substance can obliterate large areas. The discharges can usually not be seen with bare eyes, hence some tool needs to be used to find bio aerosol cloud discharges. One way is to use a lidar for the detection of clouds. By sending out a laser pulse into the atmosphere some of the light is scattered back. By measuring the backscattered light, the aerosol structure of the atmosphere can be obtained. If a cloud is hit by the laser beam, an increase of light is observed and the cloud can be detected and tracked.In this thesis a tool for simulating the elastic backscattered light has been developed. A graphical user interface for easier handling has also been developed. For automatic detection of clouds some detection algorithms have been tested. Another graphical user interface for presentation of the simulated lidar signals has also been constructed.The simulator is working well. A lot of different parameters can be changed for the lidar system, the atmosphere and the cloud type. The model works as a helpful tool for specifications of an elastic lidar system to be developed and also as a guide for expected system performance and ways to present the results.</p>

An Interactive Wildfire Spread and Suppression Simulation Environment Based on Devs-FireSong, Fei 21 November 2008 (has links)
Wildfires pose serious threats to the society and environment. Simulation of wildfire spread and fire suppression remains a challenging task due to the complexity of wildfire behavior and fire suppression tactics. In previous work, a wildfire spread and suppression simulation model called DEVS-FIRE has been developed. Based on that model, this thesis develops a graphic user interface to support an interactive simulation environment for surface wildfire spread and suppression simulation. The developed environment allows users to dynamically set up fire spread simulations, and to interacticaly deploy firefighting agents to experiment different fire suppression tactics. This graphic user interface is implemented using the Java Swing framework, and is intergrated with the DEVS-FIRE model in a well-designed manner. The software architecture is described and the simulation environment and experiment results with different fuel, terrain and weather data are presented.

DC Motor Speed Control via Fuzzy / Pole Placement / PI ControllerAshraf, Ali Junaid January 2010 (has links)
This report presents a new way of control engineering. Dc motor speed controlled by three controllers PID, pole placement and Fuzzy controller and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of each controller for different conditions under loaded and unloaded scenarios using software Matlab. The brushless series wound Dc motor is very popular in industrial application and control systems because of the high torque density, high efficiency and small size. First suitable equations are developed for DC motor. PID controller is developed and tuned in order to get faster step response. The simulation results of PID controller provide very good results and the controller is further tuned in order to decrease its overshoot error which is common in PID controllers. Further it is purposed that in industrial environment these controllers are better than others controllers as PID controllers are easy to tuned and cheap. Pole placement controller is the best example of control engineering. An addition of integrator reduced the noise disturbances in pole placement controller and this makes it a good choice for industrial applications. The fuzzy controller is introduce with a DC chopper to make the DC motor speed control smooth and almost no steady state error is observed. Another advantage is achieved in fuzzy controller that the simulations of three different controllers are compared and concluded from the results that Fuzzy controller outperforms to PID controller in terms of steady state error and smooth step response. While Pole placement controller have no comparison in terms of controls because designer can change the step response according to nature of control systems, so this controller provide wide range of control over a system. Poles location change the step response in a sense that if poles are near to origin then step response of motor is fast. Finally a GUI of these three controllers are developed which allow the user to select any controller and change its parameters according to the situation.
