The development and effects of an educational audiovisual presentation on female masturbation upon the attitudes and masturbatory behavior of college females

Hogan, Catherine Ann 01 January 1981 (has links)
The current study was designed: (1) to develop an educational tool on female masturbation capable of reaching a wide audience of women with accurate and complete information on female masturbation; (2) to provide initial validation for the further educational usefulness of this tool and (3) to assess its potential ability for improving overall sexual functioning in women by possibly altering negative attitudes toward masturbation and/or by dis-inhibiting masturbatory behavior.

Energy cost of resistive exercise

Polychronis, Jan A. 01 January 1989 (has links)
The energy cost of performing 1 and 3 sets of strength-type (6-8 RM) and endurance-type (30-35 RM) bench press exercise was estimated by indirect calorimetry in 10 male college students. The total net energy cost of performing 3 sets of endurance-type resistive exercise (20.57 ± 1.86 kcal) was significantly (p-1) the strength-type exercise (2.35 ± 0.19) resulted in a significantly (p

Body weight changes throughout the menstrual cycle and their effect upon the components of body composition

Query, Lovina M. 01 January 1984 (has links)
Research has shown that women experience fluctuations in body weight (BW) due to water retention and/or other processes at various times in the menstrual cycle. The purpose of this study is to measure women repeatedly throughout the course of one menstrual cycle and (1) to confirm whether significant fluctuations in weight occur at various times and (2) to determine whether there are significant differences in the components of body composition by hydrostatic weighing which are related to any changes in BW. It was concluded that while significant fluctuations in BW occur at certain times in the menstrual cycle, the changes are small and do not result in significant differences in the components of body composition by hydrostatic weighing at these same times. Considerable within-subject variability occurs for all parameters, however, and further research into the mechanisms appears warranted.

Comparisons of the habitual acitvity level of selected women to performance on the Bruce multistage treadmill test and the Cooper 12 minute run test

Owen, Teresa Carver 01 January 1979 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine whether the Cooper 12 Minute Run test and Bruce Multistage Treadmill test measure the same type of cardiovascular-endurance performance when testing adult women. A second purpose was to determine whether divergent levels of habitual activity by women are reflected in the scores on each test. Four groups of habitual activity were defined and labeled as follows: non-exercisers, minimal exercisers, adequate exercisers, and more than adequate exercisers. Ten healthy women were selected as subjects in each group. Subjects ranged in age from 22 to 35 years and were within the normal weight range according to standard tables. Each subject was tested in accordance with the appropriate protocol on the Bruce test and on the 12 Minute Run test. When individual scores for the two tests were correlated the data seemed to indicate that they were comparable measures of cardiovascular endurance performance. (r = 0.9097) An analysis of variance among group scores was performed for each test and highly significant F ratios were obtained. (F = 24.07 Bruce; F = 20.77 12 Minute Run) The most likely reason for the differences was seen as the divergent levels of habitual activity in each group. Contrasting tests were performed among groups and various combinations of groups. All test comparisons reached significance except for the one contrasting the 12 Minute Run scores of the two groups with the lowest activity levels. It was concluded that for the population of women at various levels of habitual activity who are represented by the selected sample in this study: the Bruce Multistage Treadmill test and the Cooper 12 Minute Run test measure largely the same type of cardiovascular endurance performance and that each test appears to adequately discriminate among women of divergent levels of habitual activity except at the lowest levels.

The effects of a combined weight training and running program on body composition in college males

Hesslink, Robert L., Jr. 01 January 1983 (has links)
The present study attempted to investigate whether a combined weight and endurance training program can elicit more favorable changes in body composition than either method of training alone. Body composition parameters (absolute fat and fat-free weight) were evaluated using circumference measurements, skinfolds and hydrostatic weighing. Cardiorespiratory fitness was evaluated via a modified Harvard step-test. All tests were administered before and after 10 weeks of training. Exercises were performed 3 days/week for 40 minutes/day. Male volunteers (n=21) were randomly assigned to one of three treatment groups (weight training only, endurance running only, combined weight training and endurance running).

A survey of the health practices of the boys and girls of Stockton High School

Rogers, Kenneth W. 01 January 1951 (has links)
The health of the students in a class is of vital importance to every teacher because of the relationship between health of the students and their performance in school. Especially is this true of the Physical Education instructor and coach, whose job it is to work with the students in physical activities. High school teachers assume that the students in the elementary school have been taught the correct health practices. Whether the student is practicing the habit taught is a question that few teachers can answer. The only basis the teacher has for his answer to this question is observation of appearance, the performance of the student, and occasionally, answers to questions. After five years of teaching health and physical education on the secondary level, the writer became very interested in finding out just what the health habits of the boys and girls of Stockton High School actually consisted of, how much of their instruction in the elementary schools had been retained, and how much instruction had been given and retained since entering the secondary level.

The effect of the Anderson Knee Stabler on various components of knee function

Tedeschi, Alfred J. 01 January 1984 (has links)
The use of knee braces in the past has been to protect and prevent further injury to a previously damaged knee. An Example of one such knee brace is the Lennox-Hill Derotation knee brace. This brace is used to assist the athlete who has a rotatory knee instability from a previous injury. (Klafs and Arnheim, 1977.) The problem of this study is to determine the possible effects of the Anderson Knee Stabler on mean isometric torque output in the knee extensor, mean isokinetic torque output at several speeds in the knee extensors and performance on the SEMO Agility Test in college football This study is important because it will assess the functional capability of an athlete wearing this given brace. Also, if significant differences are not achieved it will serve as a means of promoting this brace to those who may be reluctant to use it. If significant results are achieved then athletic trainers and coaches may have to rethink whether this brace is impairing the performance of their athletes.

Sex-role stereotyping as characterized by selected samples of female and male high school coaches

Conard, Susan Carol 01 January 1976 (has links)
The general problem was to determine the relationship of sex-role stereotyping among a random sample of female and male coaches in Northern California as they perceived sample of males and females and male and female athletes. The subproblems were: (1) To determine significant differences between male and female coaches in sex-role stereotyping of males as measures by the Stereotypic Questionnaire.; (2) To determine significant differences between male and female coaches in sex-role stereotyping of male athletes as measures by the Stereotypic Questionnaire.; (3) To determine significant differences between male and female coaches in sex-role stereotyping of females as measures by the Stereotypic Questionnaire.; (4) To determine significant differences between male and female coaches in sex-role stereotyping of female athletes as measures by the Stereotypic Questionnaire.; (5) To determine significant different among four groups of male coaches in sex-role stereotyping of male athletes, males, female athletes, and females as measured by the Stereotypic Questionnaire.; and (6) To determine significant differences among four groups of female coaches in sex-role stereotyping of male athletes, males, female athletes, and females as measured by the Stereotypic Questionnaire.

Player dissidence as related to ressentient attitudes of college baseball coaches

Gunther, John Stephen 01 January 1972 (has links)
Two specific problems were selected by the researcher as the basis for this study: (1) What is the extent, if any, of ressentient among the selected college baseball coaches, and to what extent is this ressentient perceived by their players? (2) Does a relationship exist between ressentient attitudes of the selected coaches and the amount of dissidence they perceive in the attitudes of their players? Before attacking these main problems, the researcher was faced with two sub-problems: (1) To obtain or devise instruments for identifying and measuring ressentient in selected college baseball coaches and their players’ perception of same. (2) To devise a method of rating the amount of dissidence exhibited by the members of a college baseball team.
