Learners' experiences of educators' aggression in a secondary school in GautengNaicker, Aneshee 16 May 2011 (has links)
M. Ed. / Adolescence is a phase in human development that is synonymous with change, namely, physical, cognitive, emotional and social changes. Educators start playing an important role in the lives of adolescents, and the school as an institution of learning is a place to promote social, emotional and intellectual growth that fosters the development of a positive self - concept in adolescent learners. The researcher was interested in the experiences of learners who witness educator aggression in the schooling environment and the impact this has on the adolescent learner and on the education system as a microcosm of the South African society. Current research on educator aggression indicates that aggression is detrimental to the emotional, social and mental health of learners, because aggression begets aggression. Guidelines are proposed to support both educators and learners who experience educator aggression, to facilitate their mental health. The research objectives were as follows: to explore and describe the learners’ experiences of educatoraggression in a secondary school in Gauteng; and to describe guidelines to assist learners and educators concerning educator aggression in order to facilitate their mental health. The data collected was used to formulate effective guidelines, designed to assist the adolescent learners and educators in a secondary school in Gauteng. Through this approach the researcher was able to gain insight into the experiences of learners related to educator aggression.

The modification of a computer simulation for use in the professional training of South African secondary school teachers with specific reference to the probationary yearMarsh, Cecille Joan Anna January 1989 (has links)
The topic of this thesis arose out of a desire to meet the need for a practical means of supplementing the preparation of Higher Diploma of Education (H.D.E.) students for their future role as first-year teachers. It was established that this need was not adequately filled by conventional university teacher-training methods. The literature about computerised simulation of role-playing and teaching activities was investigated and the investigation indicated that such simulations had been relatively successful. A published American computer simulation, TENURE, in which the student plays the role of a first-year teacher, was selected for modification to meet the needs of South African students. This program is implemented in the TUTOR computer language and runs on the Control Data South Africa PLATO system. In order to determine the needs of South African students, two groups of Rhodes University students worked through the simulation as it was being modified. The modifications were adapted according to the students' responses to a questionnaire. The simulation has been tested by 72 H.D.E. students and several educationists and the response has been positive

The role of the classroom teacher in the guidance of high school studentsUnknown Date (has links)
"The purpose of this paper is to define as clearly as possible the role of the classroom teacher in the guidance of high school students. The second chapter is concerned largely with defining and justifying the functions of the classroom teacher in the guidance of high school students. In the third chapter an attempt is made to show the relationship between the developmental tasks of adolescents and the teacher's role in guidance. In the fourth chapter some of the more important tools that are helpful to the teacher in the guidance of students are discussed. And finally, some conclusions have been drawn from the literature examined during the research"--Introduction. / "June, 1951." / Typescript. / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts." / Advisor: Mode L. A plan for the orientation of new teachers in the San Juan Union High School DistrictJohnson, Robert Bruce, Jr. 01 January 1959 (has links) (PDF)
The schools of the San Juan Union High School District, of which La Sierra High School is a part, have not operated under a common plan for the orientation of new teachers. It was the judgment of the investigator that there should be such a district plan. As a basis for establishing such a plan, La Sierra's program of orientation was evaluated by the teachers at La Sierra who had been through the program and by principals of certain selected schools in comparable school districts in California. The recommendation of these two sampled groups then were incorporated as a part of the district program of orientation for new teachers.
