Framtida möjligheter för mobil styrning av hemmet : / Future possibilities for mobile control of electrical devices at home

Kääramees Vretblad, Oskar January 2012 (has links)
The objectives of this study has been to examine the techniques available for enabling home automation via mobile control (for instance via a smartphone) in order to facilitate the user's role in contributing to the upgrade of the present power-grid, but also to treat the matter of which of the techniques that will probably be of most importance for the future of the smart home, and how an implementation of a mobile application for remote home controlling could be developed. The investigation was primarily conducted through a comprehensive feasibility study of information gathering, comparison of the pros and cons of different networking techniques, and investigation of suitable development environments based on the availability of open developer APIs, availability of product solutions and support, and the cost of development tools for both development and system testing. The investigation has shown that there is currently no clear winner among the networking techniques in this area, although Zigbee, Z-Wave and Wi-Fi are the strongest candidates to gain large market shares. There is also no certainty that any technology will play a much greater role than the others since the techniques may complement each other because of their strength in different areas. The investigation also showed that as for a development environment the product solution developed by the Swedish company Telldus (called Tellstick) is relatively cheap and simple to use to get started with home automation, and that they encourage third party development by offering two open APIs for application development.

Remote Residential Control System

Lang, Ming-Shuang January 2004 (has links)
A remote residential control system enables home users to remotely manage devices at their homes. These devices may include energy management, security surveillance, household appliances, consumer electronics, etc. This system involves technologies in home automation, home networking, and interfacing a home network with external networks. However, lacking a single standard poses a big challenge to the design of such a system. This thesis proposed three methods of turning an IP Set-Top Box into a remote residential control platform. Additionally, future trends are discussed. Various technologies in the fields mentioned above are also examined.

The User Perception of Control Over IoT Devices in Home Environment – A Case of the Morning Routine

Matkevitš, Elizabeth January 2020 (has links)
The researchers predict a future, where people’s interaction with things is decreased and things become more autonomous, requiring less control from people, aiming to make life easier. However, the question is if we really are ready to let go of the control over such systems in order to have easier life. This is what this research through design project is aiming to find out through a research question How the different user interaction modalities with IoT devices at home influence the sense of control for users? and sub-question How the sense of control over IoT devices would influence how people trust them? With the help of prototype, questionnaire and online sessions, two lists of guidelines were created, consisting of points to consider while designing for such systems from control and trust perspective. The angle was narrowed down to a morning routine and interaction with the alarm clock connected to a coffeemaker.

Semantics-Aware Understanding and Handling of Security and Privacy Problems in Smart Environments

Chi, Haotian, 0000-0002-0222-4660 January 2021 (has links)
Internet of Things (IoT) platforms enable users to connect heterogeneous resource-constrained wireless devices and deploy semantics-rich home automation applications in smart homes. With the proliferation and fragmentation of IoT products, it even becomes a status quo that many smart IoT devices in a smart home are bounded or delegated to multiple IoT platforms, demonstrating the following characteristics. First, an IoT device may interact with more than one IoT platform. Second, a device can be accessed via multiple communication channels (e.g., Zigbee and Bluetooth). Third, automation applications or rules in a smart home may scatter on different platforms, mainly because each platform has its own strengths and restrictions on the supported IoT devices (e.g., many Google Nest devices are not compatible to work with the Amazon platform) and programming features. Despite the convenience brought by the modern platform-backed systems, a variety of attacks targeting the devices, applications and their interactions arise, which can put the smart home devices to insecure, unsafe, or unexpected states, or can breach users' private information in the daily life. In this dissertation, several semantics-aware security and privacy issues are discussed, analyzed and handled. In one way, we systematically categorized a family of cross-app interference threats and designed a Satisfiability modulo theories (SMT)-based solution to detect them. In another work, we revealed a family of delay-based automation interference attacks that cause cross-rule interference problems in multi-platform multi-path systems. We also studied privacy protection of IoT systems and proposed a semantics-aware customizable data flow control system to protect IoT data from being exploited by third parties and attackers. We also established a command sanitizer solution for detecting cross-app interference problems in multi-platform systems and enforce security and safety policies against various IoT threats. All the works were evaluated in real-world smart home testbeds. / Computer and Information Science

Improving the Effectiveness of Building Automation by adaption to the Users Context

Pham, Thi An January 2019 (has links)
The operations of either residential housing or commercial buildings are energy intensive, estimated to occupy around 40% of all energy consumed worldwide by the year 2030 (by GeSI, SMARTer2030). ICT-enabled smart home or building solutions are expected to contribute to sustainability gain in term of improving energy and resource efficiency. These technologies not only enable buildings to be automated and centrally controlled but also help to provide a healthier and more comfortable living or working environment. While studies in smart home system show good results in reducing the energy consumption of a building by automating tasks to tear down unused appliances, most of the applications are limited implemented based on fixed schedule reassembling user behavior or routines, which is one of the major obstacles for home automation systems (HAS) to be widely acquired. As a solution for this matter, this study aims at exploring actual contexts of user for HAS to adapt in a more meaningful way so that not only the goal of reduced energy consumption is improved, but the user comfort is also taken care of in the best way. Using available studies on the expected reaction in HAS (in this work we focus on German Use case), a rule-based dictionary will be defined as a set of meaningful adaptions which can later be implemented on top of a home automation platform. Then, the study will present the assessment of this model in comparison with available studies to prove an improvement for energy efficiency.

Application of LabVIEW and myRIO to voice controlled home automation

Lindstål, Tim, Marklund, Daniel January 2019 (has links)
The aim of this project is to use NI myRIO and LabVIEW for voice controlled home automation. The NI myRIO is an embedded device which has a Xilinx FPGA and a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9processor as well as analog input/output and digital input/output, and is programmed with theLabVIEW, a graphical programming language. The voice control is implemented in two differentsystems. The first system is based on an Amazon Echo Dot for voice recognition, which is acommercial smart speaker developed by Amazon Lab126. The Echo Dot devices are connectedvia the Internet to the voice-controlled intelligent personal assistant service known as Alexa(developed by Amazon), which is capable of voice interaction, music playback, and controllingsmart devices for home automation. This system in the present thesis project is more focusingon myRIO used for the wireless control of smart home devices, where smart lamps, sensors, speakers and a LCD-display was implemented. The other system is more focusing on myRIO for speech recognition and was built on myRIOwith a microphone connected. The speech recognition was implemented using mel frequencycepstral coefficients and dynamic time warping. A few commands could be recognized, includinga wake word ”Bosse” as well as other four commands for controlling the colors of a smart lamp. The thesis project is shown to be successful, having demonstrated that the implementation ofhome automation using the NI myRIO with two voice-controlled systems can correctly controlhome devices such as smart lamps, sensors, speakers and a LCD-display.

Perozzo, Reiner Franthesco January 2011 (has links)
Since December 2007, Brazil has been introducing the Digital TV Brazilian System (SBTVD). This new system not only provides high definition images and TV mobility, but also offers interactivity by means of middleware Ginga, which has become available in Digital TV receivers in order to grant that viewers are able to interact with the transmitted applications – along with the video and audio signal – by broadcasting stations. Such Digital TV receivers, or the well-known Set-top Boxes (STBs), have ranked high in homes, a factor that enables its integration with Intelligent Environments (AmIs), which are sceneries composed by home automation systems, and may adapt to the presence of users, offer services and allow multimodal interaction with the environment. Thus, this thesis presents a framework for integration between AmIs and SBTVD in order to grant that services and automation devices located in homes can be managed by Digital TV receivers with Ginga interactivity middleware. The referred framework defines an architecture that is implemented with the aim of meeting the following functionalities: (i) physical devices mapping of automation in AmIs to the computational world; (ii) support to the development of interactive applications to access the AmI services and automation devices; (iii) creation of automation sceneries which do not depend on the hardware platform they will be run in; (iv) reuse of projects to optimize the development time of new interactive applications; (v) code automatic generation, in which applications will be constructed based on the profile of the target platform hardware and on the programming language profile supported by the SBTVD interactivity middleware. Besides, this work is validated due to three case studies that utilize concepts and computational tools underlying this thesis.
