Economic crisis are time periods that significantly contribute to the development of protectionism. It was the same during the current crisis that began in July 2007. The aim of this thesis is to determine whether the current national responses to the economic crisis hide the risk of protectionism. The thesis focuses mainly on the People's Republic of China.

The main goal of this diploma thesis is to evaluate the protection of competition in the European Union. For this purpose in EU serves competition policy, whose application is in charge of the European Commission. During my research I chose to examine the IT industry, particularly on the Microsoft case, which became one of the most significant antitrust disputes over the past years. In the thesis I compare competition policy framework with the theoretical approaches of various economic schools. Then I monitor the Commission's investigation and I discuss the legitimacy of the accusations and actions. I conclude that the EU competition policy has significant flaws in its application. I find that the European Commission is trying to reduce Microsoft's market power at all costs because when I compare Commission's attitude to other companies with identical behavior, it is completely different.

Market economies are not developing smoothly, they succumb to permanent fluctuations of economic activity. Effort of macro-policies is to mitigate or eliminate these fluctuations and support long-term economic growth. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to analyse the influence of economic policy on causes, course and impact of cyclical development in the Czech Republic in the years 1989-2009. The first section will outline the theoretical background of the economic cycle. I will explain the essence, causes, methodological basis of the business cycle and describe a set of indicators that will help me to analyse fluctuations of economical activity in the practical part. In theoretical part I will also focus on economic policy, especially on the macroeconomic area, but the microeconomical area will be also mentioned. In practical part I will study economic development of the Czech Republic in last twenty years, using the indicators described in the theoretical part. I will evaluate the way of setting the economic policy (suitability of policy mix) in certain economic situations and answer the main question of this thesis: what was the influence of economic policy on economic development of the Czech Republic? Last chapter will be devoted to the business cycle forecasts. I will compare methodical approaches used by forecasting centres such as Ministry of Finance, Czech National Bank and OECD. I will analyse how the previous forecasts of these institutions varied from reality and finally perform a forecast of economic development in the Czech Republic.

The thesis deals with the tax measures adopted in the EU countries in the context of the global economic crisis. The objective of this thesis was to describe the tax changes and evaluate their effectivity. The adopted measures were evaluated with regard to the theoretical principles of taxation. In my thesis I used the method of secondary analyses of the EU and OECD materials; to evaluate the effectivity of the tax changes I have used the method of comparison and deduction. I made detailed analysis of tax reforms in Hungary, Greece and Germany. The tax measures in all compared countries confirmed the recent trend -- a shift from direct to indirect taxation. In my work I also focused on the impact of fiscal policy on economic growth. During the crisis the EU countries tried to support the economy by fiscal incentives which led to the high state debt and in some countries almost to a state bankruptcy. It is very complicated to explain how much influence had the taxes in the combat with the crisis. However it is quite certain that without the fiscal help a number of states would be still in recession.

The aim of this thesis is analysis of the impact of the financial and economic crisis on the Czech banking sector between 2008 and 2010. The theoretic section describes methods and technics of bank assessment based on financial indicators. The application section contains of analysis of the impacts on aggregate numbers of the Czech bank sector and the impacts on selected Czech banks. Conclusion of the thesis summarises individual impacts of the crises and explains their causes. In the end thesis results in comparison of performance between the Czech banks and their foreign owners.

The main goal of the diploma thesis is the analyse of government interventions during the economic crisis and the evaluation of the efficiency on the example of the economy of Unites States of America. The thesis is divided into three main parts: Part I is a theoretical approach to the interventions and focuses on the impact of monetary and fiscal tools. Part II analysis the fundamental background of the crisis with the empasis on unique circumstances. Part III is the longest shows the real interventions on the example of USA and analysis the success of them. At the very end of the thesis is a comparison of the interventions with the European Union.

Tomas Ricka Stránka 1 Title: The influence of public policy on legal order of Czech Republic during transition Abstract: The thesis deals with public policy, its key components and influences on the institutional environment. The major aim of the thesis was to analyze, what was the influence of public (economic) policy in transition on the creation of rules in the Czech Republic. Who created the policy? How was the policy conducted? What was the role of the rules? What was the international context in that era? What was the influence of these external factors on the development in the Czech Republic. Other goals of the thesis dealt with the following: availability of suitable tools to analyze transition; key assumptions of public policy; rule making; the role of rule makers. The thesis does not attempt to describe all relevant approaches from modern economic theory that would be useful to analyze the transition processes. The thesis uses a selection of tools that can help to analyze institutions and rules in society from another view, than does standard legal theory or political science. Use of tools of economic analysis (especially from the area of microeconomics and new approaches of economics) can be characterized as complementary for institutional analysis. Náplní této práce je popis, analýza a zhodnocení politiky vlád Labour Party pod vedením Tonyho Blaira ve vztahu k Evropské unii. Je v ní nastíněn historický vývoj účasti Velké Británie v evropském integračním procesu a její specifika. Jádrem práce je identifikace nejdůležitějších oblastí vzájemných vztahů a analýza jejich vývoje v letech 1997 - 2006. V rámci tohoto je detailně rozebrána role Velké Británie v procesu utváření Evropské bezpečnostní a obranné politiky a její postoje k problematice Hospodářské a měnové unie a účasti Velké Británie v ní.

Diplomová práce se zabývá potřebou uvědomění si nutnosti zavádění a dodržování etických kodexů a významem firemní kultury v moderní společnosti, zejména v ekonomické sféře ? tedy v podnicích a firmách, které jsou z velké části hlavní součástí života většiny lidí a mají tak rozhodující vliv na chování jednotlivce. S využitím konkrétního případu ? společnosti Whirlpool, jako jedné ze společností, které kladou velký důraz na etiku v podnikání a etické kodexy a se zmínkami o společnosti Hilti, která je organizací s jednou z nejsilnějších firemních kultur na světě ? se pokouší analyzovat důležitost nepsaných pravidel, jejich výhody a nevýhody v porovnání se zákony a právním řádem jako takovým. Cílem této práce je poskytnout vedení a zaměstnancům společnosti Whirlpool Česká republika (a nejen jim) praktický pohled na etiku a její význam a případně také poskytnout vhodné argumenty a odpovědi na otázky, které mohou při prosazování a uplatňování etického kodexu ve společnosti vyvstat. Vzhledem k existenci nadnárodně daného etického kodexu v této společnosti (Whirlpool Corporation Ethical Code) jsem shrnula výhody jeho úplného a vhodného využití také na lokální úrovni. Poukázala jsem na předsudek nevhodnosti etického kodexu v měřítku našeho státu, ale právě konkrétním rozborem jsem se ho pokusila vyvrátit.

Práce srovnává platnou právní úpravu ČR a ES jedné z oblastí ochrany hospodářské soutěže - dominantního postavení na trhu a jeho zneužití. Vysvětluje zákonem používané pojmy a zaměřuje se na rozbor jednotlivých skutkových podstat zneužití dominantního postavení ve vztahu k právu komunitárnímu. Dále jsou v práci navrženy některé změny českého zákona o ochraně hospodářské soutěže, aby lépe odpovídal právu ES.
