Uma contribuição para avaliar o desempenho de sistemas de transporte emergencial de saúde / A contribution to evaluate the performance of emergency health transportation systems

Renata Algisi Takeda 01 December 2000 (has links)
One of the major concerns of medical emergency systems is to provide the fastest possible medical attention for the victims. The time elapsed between the emergency call and the assistance, called the response time, is one of the main factors that influence the system\'s performance. This time lapse depends on traffic conditions, the day of the week and time of day, the number of available vehicles and their location, the rescue team\'s professional qualifications, etc. This work consists of an analysis of the performance of the emergency service available in Campinas, SP, and deals with the problem using the hypercube queuing model, which considers stochastic variations of the arrival and assistance processes. The application of this model produces a wide variety of system performance indicators, which are compared with the real observed values to validate the model\'s hypothetical application. Application of the model in alternative operational scenarios, such as decentralization and a greater number of ambulances, showed a significant increase in the quality of the service offered to the user. It was concluded that the model constitutes an important analytical tool for this type of system, serving as an aid for strategic and operational decision-making.

Duff, Christopher 01 March 1991 (has links) (PDF)

Philippe, Jean-Laurent 19 June 1990 (has links) (PDF)

Kobeissi, Mohamed 12 October 2001 (has links) (PDF)

Parametric study of a dog clutch used in a transfer case for trucks

Eriksson, Fredrik, Kuttikkal, Joseph Linu, Mehari, Amanuel January 2013 (has links)
Normally the trucks with four wheel drive option will be running in rear wheel drives and the front wheels will be rotating freely. In extreme tough driving conditions, the risk for getting stopped or slipping the rear wheels in mud is high. When the driver tries to engage the four wheel drive option and due to the difference in relative rotational speed of the dog clutch parts, there is a risk for slipping off or bouncing back of the dog clutch. After studying the importance of gear geometry and a few parameters, the team ended up with a new design and the performance of the design found satisfactory when simulated in MSC ADAMS.

A study of hypercube graph and its application to parallel computing

Salam, Mohammed Abdul January 1991 (has links)
Recent studies have shown an increased interest and research in the area of parallel computing. Graphs offer ' an excellent means for the modelling of parallel computers. The hypercube graph is emerging as the preferred topology for parallel processing. It is a subject of intense research and study by both graph theorists and computer scientists. This thesis is intended to investigate several graph theoretic properties of hypercubes and one of its subgraphs (middle graph of the cube). These include edgedensity, diameter, connectivity, Hamiltonian property, Eulerian property, cycle structure, and crossing number.. Theproblem of routing using parallel algorithms for implementing partial permutation is also described. We also discuss the problem of multiplying matrices on hypercube, which is helpful in solving graph theoretic problems like shortest paths and transitive closure. The problem of graph embeddings is also discussed pertaining to hypercube graph. Lastly, several important applications of hypercubes are discussed. / Department of Computer Science

Graph Laplacians, Nodal Domains, and Hyperplane Arrangements

Biyikoglu, Türker, Hordijk, Wim, Leydold, Josef, Pisanski, Tomaz, Stadler, Peter F. January 2002 (has links) (PDF)
Eigenvectors of the Laplacian of a graph G have received increasing attention in the recent past. Here we investigate their so-called nodal domains, i.e., the connected components of the maximal induced subgraphs of G on which an eigenvector \psi does not change sign. An analogue of Courant's nodal domain theorem provides upper bounds on the number of nodal domains depending on the location of \psi in the spectrum. This bound, however, is not sharp in general. In this contribution we consider the problem of computing minimal and maximal numbers of nodal domains for a particular graph. The class of Boolean Hypercubes is discussed in detail. We find that, despite the simplicity of this graph class, for which complete spectral information is available, the computations are still non-trivial. Nevertheless, we obtained some new results and a number of conjectures. (author's abstract) / Series: Preprint Series / Department of Applied Statistics and Data Processing
