This dissertation, result of a research held in Professional Masters in Management and Evaluation of Public Education of CAED/UFJF, presents as its theme the retention and school dropout in higher education, specifically among students of Interdisciplinary Bachelor in Exact Sciences of Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF). The term evasion, for this research is considered to be the shutdown of his academic course, both out of UFJF - abandonment, enrollment cancellation, dismissal, transfer - and for another course of the institution - internal transfer or a new entrance selective process. Regarding retention, this study associates the failures suffered by the academic along his course, which he remains tied, that implies the expected time is exceeded complete curricular graduation by the student. From the above mentioned course prerequisites structure, frequent cases of low academic performance have been checked, especially in the early disciplines. Retention in these disciplines has hindered the development of academic within the courseand it is possible thus raise the hypothesis that the fact that the student does not present such developments contribute to the cases of evasion, and allows the investigation of factors that have favored this worrying educational situation. Thus, this study is justified by noting that both the local and national level, higher education institutions have, over the years, facing considerable problems related to evasion and/or repetition among their academics. Considering this scenario, this thesis seeks to analyze retention and dropout among students of the first cycle of the Interdisciplinary Bachelor of Exact Sciences of UFJF considering documentary research and theoretical framework on the subject, in addition to conducting interviews with teachers and managers of the institution. Finally, two intervention actions were proposed - creation of a pedagogical support activity and a monitoring of academic performance program - aiming the improvement of student performance, and as a possible consequence, allow academics to successfully complete their course and in the appropriate time, reducing cases of failure and dropout.

Plíhalová, Monika January 2017 (has links)
Master's thesis is devoted to the topic of humor in art education. The aim of the thesis is to define the basic theoretical humor in the theoretical part of the work, plus accompany the humor theme with fine arts to highlight the place of humor in education. The aim of the empirical part is to characterize own artwork using humor, describe the series of realized artworks with humorous themes, especially mapping humor in art education. In master's thesis the theoretical basis of humor is outlined at a general level, in conjunction with visual arts and pedagogy. Own work with humorous elements constitutes an author's book. It contains thematic series of art tasks with humorous themes and their reflection. The main focus of the thesis lies in a qualitative research study of manifestations of humor in art education based on direct observation of lessons in art education. To analyze data, the Mayring's Qualitative Content Analysis is used. As the main aim of the research was determined to map the utilization and character of humor in teaching with three art teachers. Within the interpretation of research findings on the sample, the concept of humor in lessons with various art teachers was differentiated. There were also several areas defined, in which the humorous expressions for teaching are linked....

Some problems in harmonic analysis on quantum groups / Quelques problèmes en analyse harmonique sur les groupes quantiques

Wang, Simeng 22 June 2016 (has links)
This thesis studies some problems in the theory of harmonic analysis on compact quantum groups. It consists of three parts. The first part presents some elementary Lp theory of Fourier transforms, convolutions and multipliers on compact quantum groups, including the Hausdorff-Young theory and Young’s inequalities. In the second part, we characterize positive convolution operators on a finite quantum group G which are Lp-improving, and also give some constructions on infinite compact quantum groups. The methods for ondegeneratestates yield a general formula for computing idempotent states associated to Hopf images, which generalizes earlier work of Banica, Franz and Skalski. The third part is devoted to the study of Sidon sets, _(p)-sets and some related notions for compact quantum groups. We establish several different characterizations of Sidon sets, and in particular prove that any Sidon set in a discrete group is a strong Sidon set in the sense of Picardello. We give several relations between Sidon sets, _(p)-sets and lacunarities for Lp-Fourier multipliers, generalizing a previous work by Blendek and Michali˘cek. We also prove the existence of _(p)-sets for orthogonal systems in noncommutative Lp-spaces, and deduce the corresponding properties for compact quantum groups. Central Sidon sets are also discussed, and it turns out that the compact quantum groups with the same fusion rules and the same dimension functions have identical central Sidon sets. Several examples are also included. The thesis is principally based on two works by the author, entitled “Lp-improvingconvolution operators on finite quantum groups” and “Lacunary Fourier series for compact quantum groups”, which have been accepted for publication in Indiana University Mathematics Journal and Communications in Mathematical Physics respectively.

RNAi Mediated Silencing of Cell Wall Invertase Inhibitors to Increase Sucrose Allocation to Sink Tissues in Transgenic Camelina Sativa Engineered with a Carbon Concentrating Mechanism

Zuber, Joshua 17 July 2015 (has links)
Plant invertases are a class of proteins that have enzymatic function in cleaving sucrose to fructose and glucose. Cell wall invertase, located on the exterior of the cell wall of plant cells, plays a key role in the unloading of sucrose from the apoplast to the sink tissues. Cell wall invertase interacts with an inhibitor, cell wall invertase inhibitor, post-transcriptionally to regulate its activity. The inhibitor is constitutively expressed in pollen development, early developing seeds, and senescing leaves: indicative of sucrose allocation being a limiting factor at these stages of development. We introduced algal bicarbonate transporters LCIA/CCP1 to Camelina sativa for the purpose of increasing photosynthetic capacity. The bicarbonate transporters concentrate CO2 at RuBisCO by pumping CO2 in the form of bicarbonate through the membrane, then converting it back to CO2 at RuBisCO, increasing CO2 concentration. Results from these plants have shown an increase in seed number, but not seed mass, along with a faster rate of maturity and senescence. This is indicative of acclimation to high CO2 conditions, resulting from insertion of the bicarbonate transporters. RNA sequencing was performed and a putative invertase inhibitor was recognized as being expressed in the transgenic C. sativa but not in the wild type. Our strategy is to knock out two invertase inhibitors using induced RNA silencing, dramatically altering sucrose allocation into developing seeds and resulting in an increase in seed biomass. It is the aim of this research to increase the biomass of C. sativa seeds in order to increase its effectiveness as an agent to create sustainable biofuels.

Optimalizace složení betonů s využitím plniv z recyklovaných betonů / Optimization of the concrete composition with the use of recycled concrete aggregates

Skriňáková, Eva January 2016 (has links)
Concrete as a building material is subject to continuous innovation and thanks to advanced technology and quantum of research, its properties are still improved. It is logical that the more concrete we produce, the more waste it arises. The volume of this waste can not be stored in landfills endlessly, nowadays most of the waste economies in the world are trying to recycle concrete rubble. The recycling is not such a problem, the technology has been long verified but the quality of the recycled concrete aggregate is unquestionably one of the primary assumption which leads to accomplish required properties of concrete. In fact, the recycling process is „crushing“ the concrete into particles with an effort to eliminate the cement paste on the surface of the aggregate. An ideal solution would be create a resistant and firm coating that would adhere perfectly to the cement matrix. This diploma thesis is focused on the properties of recycled concrete aggregate and methods of improvement and optimization of the concrete mix composition.

Synthèse de contrôleurs prédictifs auto-adaptatifs pour l'optimisation des performances des systèmes / Synthesis of self-adaptive predictive controllers for optimizing system performance

Turki, Marwa 12 October 2018 (has links)
Even though predictive control uses concrete parameters, the value of these latter has a strong impact on the obtained performances from the system to be controlled. Their tuning is not trivial. That is why the literature reports a number of adjustment methods. However, these ones do not always guarantee optimal values. The goal of this thesis is to propose an analytical and original tuning tuning approach of these parameters. Initially applicable to linear MIMO systems, the proposed approach has been extended to non-linear systems with or without constraints and for which a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) model exists. The class of nonlinear systems considered here is written in quasi-linear parametric form (quasi-LPV). Assuming that the system is controllable and observable, the proposed method guarantees the optimal stability of this closed-loop system. To do this, it relies, on the one hand, on a conditioning improving technique of the Hessian matrix and, on the other hand, on the concept of effective rank. It also has the advantage of requiring a lower computational load than the approaches identified in the literature. The interest of the proposed approach is shown through the simulation on different systems of increasingcomplexity. The work carried out has led to a self-adaptive predictive control strategy called "ATSMPC" (Adaptive Takagi-Sugeno Model-based Predictive Control).
