Nya kommunikationsvägar till marknaden : En marknadsanalys av privata skogsägares behov av skogliga tjänster / New communication routes to the market : A market analysis of private forest owners' needsfor forest services

The enterprise Derome Forest, which manages the supply of raw materials to Derome Group's industries, wants to develop its communications with suppliers and also the forest services that the company provides. The purpose of the study was to find new information channels for forest companies to communicate about forest services to existing and future suppliers. In order to answer the research questions and achieve the purpose of the study, a questionnaire was chosen as a method in combination with a focus group. The most sought after services were final felling, thinning, and pre commercial thinning and planting. Forestry magazines, personal meetings and social activities were important sources of knowledge for forest owners. Few of the forest owners replied that they used the websites of forest companies or followed them on social media, although most of the respondents estimated that their internet use for forest purposes will increase. Digital calendars with forest companies' activities and mobile apps for measuring and calculating were digital tools that were requested. Damage and diseases on forests, intrusion issues and thinning were subjects that many forest owners thought was difficult. Greater diversity in forestry methods and a more goal-based and diversified advice were requested from forest companies.

Solidarity and Security : International and Swedish Preparedness for Climate Induced Migration in a Warming World

Migration due to climate change has been going on for millennia, and societies´ resilience will be put to pressure even more with an accelerating global warming.22, 5 million people have left their homes due to climate change since 2008, according to the United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR, 2017). All of these people are not recognized as refugees, but some of them will most likely seek refuge abroad. The aim of this Master´s thesis is to explore how the UN, the EU, and Sweden understand and analyse the phenomenon of climate induced migration from a geopolitical aspect. It is furthermore to explore the institution´s preparedness through analysing the suggested measurements they utilise today and recognize a need for the future. Applying a human security perspective, this thesis aims at exploring the following two questions; what views and perspectives of climate induced migration exist in the UN, the EU and among Swedish authorities, and what legal, technical, economic or other measures do they respond with to meet climate induced migration? The results confirm that there is a consensus among the institutions that climate change will lead to cross-border migration to some extent but the preparedness for it is inadequate in terms of available measurements.

De kristna, muslimerna och de rationella Vi:et : En intervjustudie om gymnasieelevers uppfattningar om kristendomen och islam

The aim of this study is to examine high school students’ perceptions of Christianity,Islam and their followers. This is performed with the purpose of raising awareness of students’ authentic understandings of religion – so that their perceptions, and perhaps prejudices, could actively and effectively be addressed during school hours.The data was collected through interviews in focus groups, where a total of 10 students were asked questions about their perceptions of Christianity and Islam. The results show that a majority of the students have a negative attitude towards traditional religious beliefs in general, and that most them, consequently, have strong preconceptions regarding both Christians and Muslims. However, the findings display that there are some evident differences between the ways students view Christian and Islamic faith. These dissimilarities mainly seem to revolve around the idea that Christians typically are born within “rational and modern societies” – and therefore “should know better” than to believe in God. In contrast, there is a strong notion that Muslims generally are born in “less fortunate societies”, and thus cannotbe held accountable for their “illogical” beliefs. The study concludes that there is an alarming need for schools to pay attention to, and thereafter challenge, students’religious preconceptions.

Working Hard or Hardly Working? How the Swedish Building Trade Magazines Mediate Issues Regarding Energy Efficiency

The building sector accounts for 40 % of the energy usage, and to be able to reach the energy reduction goals set within the EU and Sweden, the building sector needs to change toward energy efficiency. The building sector has a lot of energy saving potential, and within the sector, the HVAC- and plumbing section has the greatest saving potential. Since building trade magazines are directed to practitioners within the building sector, and also their main channel for information regarding projects and developments, this study has used qualitative content analysis on articles, regarding energy efficiency, between the years of 2002-2014. Two building magazines and one HVAC- and plumbing magazine were used to cover the field of what issues regarding energy efficiency were mediated to the readers. The study found out that during the first years, the magazines mediated a positive image towards energy efficiency measures, but mentioned little concrete action plans. After the implementation of more stringent laws, the magazines mediated different issues in a more equal spreading, however two different issues battled to be heard. These were concerns regarding the risks of using new methods not tried before, the lack of clear definitions from the authorities and a focus on a holistic perspective that included environmental thinking. The most recent years focused on practical solutions, adopting a holistic perspective that included both buildings and individual behaviors. During the years, the magazines in general framed energy efficiency measures as something positive and mediated the image of that energy efficiency measures would be taken in the future.

Forging a narrative : Political narratives in Swedish parties

The following thesis is an analysis of the self-narratives of the parties in the Swedish Riksdag and how these are used to construct the identities of the parties. For this purpose, we studied narrative theory and theories about identity in order to build a framework which would allow us to investigate the narratives of these parties. To identify the core narratives of the parties, we chose to focus on their respective party programs. Based on the results of our quantitative investigation, we chose four parties (Socialdemokraterna, Liberalerna, Miljöpartiet, and Sverigedemokraterna) to study in a more in-depth manner. Having selected these four parties, we utilized theories about narrative and identity in order to identify the constituent parts of the various parties' narratives contained in their party programs. The parties were found to adhere to our theoretical assumptions about how parties ought to construct narratives, albeit in different ways from party to party.

The object of this thesis is Crown Princess Victoria's dress choices in her royal duties, primarily ceremonies, during the past three years based on visibility in media. The aim of the study is to investigate whether the Crown Princess has used fashion in a different way than other royals in history and today. Fashion scientific I have also examined how the Crown Princess fashion choices relates to her brand, an my studies has focused on subjects such as nationality, power, style, class and popular appeal. The questions relates to the Crown Princess' conscious clothing priorities, her wedding dress and the fashion effects on the Crown Princess' brand. The material includes: field observation at the wedding dress exhibition at the Royal Palace, interviews at the Royal Court, surveys of fashion magazines and a collection of photo material. The varied material, its scope and the time constraints have made me choose the ethnological method "the moving searchlight" as a flexible and systematic processing of the material based upon the overall research questions. I have used the theories by Erving Goffman and Pierre Bourdieu throughout the analysis with focus on use of Goffman ́s theory taken from the theater and enactments and Bourdieu with his theories in sociology as the visibility of taste in practices. The results from my analysis show that there are differences in the way the Crown Princess expresses her role in comparison with other historical and contemporary royals. These differences are mainly visible in her choice of clothing from a sustainability perspective but also based on the concept of popular appeal. The similarities are those concerning national origin in her choices of clothing. I have also come to the conclusion that academic analytical methods in her royal fashion choices, on the basis of history and deep academic analysis, could become key success factors in the developing of the Crown Princess style in terms of visibility and ultimately strengthening her brand for Sweden, The Royal Family and the Royal Court.

Högskolestudenters bedömningar av misshandlande gärningspersoner avseende etnicitet och psykiskt hälsotillstånd: En vinjettstudie

Två utsatta grupper i dagens Sverige, som ideligen faller offer för nedlåtande fördomar, är invandrare och individer som lider av psykisk ohälsa. Syftet var att undersöka huruvida manipulation av en misshandlande gärningspersons etnicitet och psykiska hälsotillstånd kunde ge skilda resultat med avseende på bedömningen av brottets allvarlighetsgrad, straffvärde, medkänsla för gärningsmannen samt förståelse för den begångna handlingen. Deltagare var 151 studenter i åldrarna 20-64 år, varav 103 kvinnor, från en högskola i Sverige. Fyra olika vinjetter användes. För att undersöka eventuell samvariation korrelationstestades de beroende variablerna samt kontrollvariablerna. Olika 2 x 2 ANCOVA-analyser för oberoende mätningar gjordes. Resultatet motsade hypoteserna och visade inga signifikanta medelvärdesskillnader mellan vinjetterna, samt innebar inga mätbara fördomar; människors bedömning av gärningspersonen och handlingen tycks inte påverkas av dennes etnicitet och psykiska hälsotillstånd. Resultaten diskuterades och visade på en positiv trend, där människor med olika bakgrund värderas allt mer jämlikt iSverige.

Adjustment of Somali women in relation to societal systems in the Swedish society : A qualitative case study of five Somali women’s experiences

The aims of this study are; (a) to explore how Somali women experience their adjustment in the Swedish society in connection to societal systems, and (b) to investigate these women’s perspective of how to make the adjustment process more effective in respect to their needs. The adjustment of the participants has been investigated through a social ecological theoretical framework. Thematic analysis has been utilised to present three themes; assistance, inclusion and self-sufficient which are discussed using social ecological theoretical perspective. Results showed that lack of assistance and sufficient information has led to these women feeling helpless and lost motivation to adjust. The women showed disappointment with regard to self-sufficiency which has not been what they have expected. The suggestions made by the interviewees included assistance in their native language during their first years in the new country, inclusive opening of meeting places and an increased assessment of personal resources when receiving help to find employment. Making adjustment more effective for newly arrived immigrants in new countries is fundamental to international social work.

Wage compression was an important goal for Swedish blue-collar trade unions during the post-war period. This was achieved during the period 1956-1982 and is credited by many due to the writings of trade union-economists Gösta Rehn and Rudolf Meidner. However some scholars question the substantial impact that is credited to the program drafted from Rehn and Meidners writings, some mean to say that the market could be equally if not sole creditable or responsible for the Swedish development of wage compression. This paper compares the development of wage compression and dispersion between Norway and Sweden during the said period in order to find out which had more impact: the market or trade union ideology? The result is two-pronged: The market forces put the terms for a similar development during the period, the Swedish wage policies put the terms for the differences.

The pre-purchase journey of online shopping : A study of Swedish consumers’ online shopping pre-purchase phase

With changing environments and the development of technology, the online marketplace is a relevant field in need of continuous study. As consumer act and behave differently due to cultural aspects as well as individual characteristics and external influences, there is a need for research in order to understand their behavior in this changing marketplace. This paper investigates the elements of Swedish online consumers’ pre-purchase journeys, and sought out to contribute in terms of illustrating the online shopping journey in today’s online environment from a consumer perspective. It does so based on a quantitative study in the form of an online survey based on 265 Swedish respondents. The findings and contribution add information to the field of online shopping as well as mention some differences among online shoppers, mainly in terms of gender. In addition to contributing in terms of the different elements and steps involved in the online shopping journey, a model is presented illustrating the steps in a more fluid depiction that recognizes several touchpoints across the journey. The limitations are indicated in terms of time and scope, as well as in terms of relying on quantitative findings to a great extent. Future recommendations suggest continuous research in terms of the online shopping journey, as well as the combination with qualitative research in order to strengthen the method. The study contributions can be both managerial as well as for practitioners in terms contributing to existing research and providing a simple yet comprehensive illustration of the online consumer journey.
