The analysis of the level of participation in school is essential to understand the quality of inclusion of children with special needs in the general education classrooms. For this evaluation it is important to focus attention on the student functionality before the demands of the environment, using as a resource for collecting information it is used a standardized criterion-referenced assessment. This work investigated the performance of students identified in school records as having special needs, the instrument used for this task was the School Function Assessment (SFA) which has as its objectives the identification of levels of aid offered to the children and the understanding of the views of teachers about the importance of that instrument. A group of eight teachers participated in this work evaluating nine students with special needs enrolled on the basic education in regular public schools. The results indicated that the participation performance of those students is close to what is expected from a typical student in each one of the school environments: regular classrooms, playground/recess, transportation, bathroom/toileting, transitions, meal time/snack time. The environments presenting greatest difficulty were: participation in the regular classroom and participation in the playground/recess. It was noticed the presence of high levels of assistance by other people during the tasks having little or none adaptation. In the view of the teacher, the instrument (SFA) brings a clearer understanding about the performance and participation of students in the school, but it does not bring immediate added value to the daily work in the classroom. This data suggests that the descriptive diagnostic of the functionality is something to be carefully posted on the school records as the special needs must be identified by the relationship of the student with the school environment... Fitness School and the inclusion of students with disabilities. Master Thesis, Pós-graduação em Distúrbios do Desenvolvimento, Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie (SP), 2008. This study had its origin in the interest in knowing the conditions for implementing the lessons of Physical Education and the position of teachers from this area to get students with disabilities in the class of Physical Education School. Social inclusion is an issue that has been widely discussed and this research can bring a contribution to the field of education, producing new knowledge about the conditions of the Physical Education Teacher when working with students with disability in a regular school. The age group chosen for this research covered the stages of pre-adolescence and adolescence. The objective of this work was to understand and analyse critically how the process of inclusion of students with disabilities in Physical Education classes in a private school in the region of Barueri (São Paulo) is occurring. The research was done through a qualitative analysis of the data that were obtained through semi-structured interviews conducted with teachers, students and their families. The results indicate that the school has good conditions for accessibility, the children enthusiastically share what happens in the classroom of Fitness with their parents, who in turn believe that the work done with their children is satisfactory. But teachers feel insecure and unprepared to meet students with a disability and have little kowledge about the limitations that the deficiencies of their students cause.

Changes in the role of a regular elementary school counsellor after the implementation of an inclusion model.

Medová, Petra January 2019 (has links)
This diploma thesis is divided into a theoretical and practical part. In the theoretical part, the author derives from the historical findings of Educational Counselling Facilities in the Czech Educational system. Furthermore, she focuses on the definition of Educational Counselling Facilities before the introduction of the new concept of Individual Integration in 2016, including the working methods of school guidance counsellor. The author defines the terms of Individual Integration in detail and deals with the amendment and its consequences in the work of school guidance counsellors and teachers. The practical part includes an empirical research based on semi-structured interviews with school guidance counsellors. The author summarizes the findings of her questionnaire survey carried on among schoolteachers. In the final part, the author specifies the changes in the working methods of school guidance counsellors after the implementation of the new concept of Individual Integration starting from 1st September 2016. The author also clarifies the impact of the Individual Integration concept on the everyday responsibilities of the teachers and the educational facilities from their point of view.

Traditions and Challenges : Special Support in Swedish Independent Compulsory Schools / Traditioner och utmaningar : Särskilt stöd i fristående grundskolor i Sverige

Magnússon, Gunnlaugur January 2015 (has links)
This thesis has two overarching aims. The first is to generate further knowledge about Swedish independent schools, specifically regarding the organisation and provision of special support and how these relate to special educational traditions and inclusive education. This is conducted through four empirical studies, utilising data gathered in two total population survey studies. The first survey was a total population study of Swedish independent compulsory schools (N = 686, response rate = 79%), and results from this study are presented in articles I, II and IV. Article III presents results derived from a total population survey of special pedagogues (SENCOs) and special education teachers in Sweden educated according to the degree ordinances of 2001, 2007 and 2008 (N = 4252, response rate = 75%). Article I contains a general description of special education issues in the total population of independent schools. Article II continues with comparisons of these issues in different groups of independent compulsory schools. Article III studies differences in organisational prioritisations regarding special support and special educators in municipal and independent schools. Finally, article IV presents qualitative content analysis of over 400 responses regarding special support at independent schools. The second overarching aim of the thesis is to further develop the discussions initiated in the articles about how special education and inclusive education can be understood in light of the education reforms that introduced the independent schools. A critical theoretical analysis and contextualization of the empirical results from the articles is conducted to explain and describe the consequences of the new (market) education paradigm. Results show that, generally, the independent schools have not challenged special educational traditions to a significant degree. Rather, traditional conceptions, explanations and organisational measures are reproduced, and in some cases enhanced, by market mechanisms. However, there are great differences between the different types of schools with regard to both their perspectives on special education and their organisational approaches. There are also indications that the principle of choice is limited for this pupil group as compared to some other groups. Additionally, the increasing clustering of pupils in need of special support at certain schools replicates a system with special schools. In this case, market mechanisms are contributing to a system that is in contradiction to the idea of an inclusive school system. The theoretical interpretation of the results suggests that Skrtic’s theory can largely explain the empirical patterns found. However, his theory gives rise to different predictions or potential scenarios depending on what parts of his theory are underscored. Moreover, his theory must be complemented with additional perspectives to more fully account for diversity within the results, particularly as the results indicate that discourses/paradigms of special education and inclusive education often occur simultaneously and can thus be seen as expressions of practices taking place in a complex social and political environment. Keywords: Special education; inclusion; school choice; education reform; independent schools; compulso-ry schools; pupils in need of special support, SENCOs; special education teachers; critical pragmatism; Thomas M. Skrtic / Denna avhandling har två övergripande syften. Nyckelord: Specialpedagogik; inkludering; skolval; utbildningsreformer; fristående skolor; grundskolan; elever i behov av särskilt stöd, specialpedagoger; speciallärare; kritisk pragmatism, Thomas M. Jedličkova základní škola - integrace versus inkluze / Jedlička Elementary School - integration versus inclusion

Zaworová, Neli January 2017 (has links)
Z těchto důvodů došlo v roce 2014 ke změně původního průzkumného cíle s názvem "Vývoj a postup...
