A study in GUI aesthetics for modern pixel art games. / En undersökning om GUI-estetik för moderna pixelgrafikspel.

Grahn, Emma January 2013 (has links)
The clarity and usability of the graphical user interface is very important for the enjoyment of a digital game. Pixel art is an art style with low resolution consisting of a precise placing of pixels, the smallest unit of colour that a screen can display. Pixel art has the potential of being cheap, easy to make and nostalgic, but it takes some skill to handle. However the great weakness of pixel art is displaying letters, and small details with clarity. So is there a place for pixel art in modern games? This thesis will discuss how pixel art games could use their GUI and HUDs to create beautiful games without losing clarity. The aim of this study is to is to compare different games GUI in a systematic way and discuss whether the artists have succeeded in their design of the GUI to give the player a pleasant game experience. A second aim is to find a series of recommendations on how to build a GUI with the least possible intrusion on on a narrative driven game. The main question is how can the GUI be designed and drawn to fit a modern pixel art game without causing a distracting discord to the pixel art style?

Večeřová, Lucie January 2016 (has links)
(in English) The aim of this thesis is to describe the language development of Hindī and Urdū from the same grammatical and lexical basis (the Kharī bolī dialect). The development divergence will be described in terms of both the historical development at different stages, which were conditioned by cultural and political influences, and the internal development (phonological, morphological and syntactical). The current linguistic situation is closely linked to the political development and language policy of India and Pakistan, where the two languages, Hindī and Urdū, are establishing themselves as official languages. The relationship between these two languages will be explored more deeply in sociolinguistic terms. The author will describe the conditions and circumstances of the use of languages on colloquial and literary levels.

Batanagar: Baťovy závody a život Čechoslováků v Indii v letech 1934-1950 / Batanagar: A Bata Company Town and the Life of Czechoslovak Expatriates in India during the Years 1934-1950

Hrnčířová, Zuzana January 2017 (has links)
This diploma thesis describes the expansion of the Czechoslovak Bata shoe company to India. A foundation stone of Batanagar, Bat'a's city, was laid near Calcutta on October 28, 1934. Since then, the community of Czechoslovak expatriates evolved to an almost self-sufficient city known throughout Bengal and India. Because the majority of employees were Indians, there was a lively cultural contact between them and the Czech expatriates. The main part of the thesis focuses on the description of the common life of the Czechoslovakians in Batanagar - Bat'a's employees sent from Zlín during the period from 1934 to 1950. In India, many Czechoslovakian children grew up in this international environment, because women or the extended family of Czechoslovakian men later followed them here. New couples also celebrated their weddings in Batanagar. Due to the outbreak of World War II, Bat'a's employees did not return home for many years, and from India they organized their own resistance activities.

Political, social and cultural integration of the immigrants from India in the United States of America / Political, social and cultural integration of the immigrants from India in the United States of America

Rezková, Hana January 2008 (has links)
This paper deals with the political, social and cultural integration of the immigrants from India in the United States of America. The last and so far the biggest wave of Asian Indian immigration to the U.S. began after 1965 with the passage of the new Immigration Act. Today, there are more than 2.5 million Asian Indian immigrants living in the U.S. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the chronology of events and history of U.S. immigration laws concerning Asian, and particularly Asian Indian, immigrants. Building on this analysis, the goal is further to show how the immigrants were being discriminated against and how they managed to integrate successfully into the mainstream American society despite many cases of refusal and acts based on prejudice. The Social Integration part analyzes possible problems in the Asian Indian immigrant family living in the U.S., their attitudes towards education, and finally their success at work. The Cultural Integration part includes the topic of multiculturalism, issues of conflict and communication, differences between the American and Indian culture, as well as religion, holidays, and traditions.

The first chapter is dedicated to basic characteristics of India. In the second chapter you can find business specialties. These include issues which in my opinion highly characterize business environment, more or less friendly for doing business. The core part of this thesis is cultural and social manners, values, norms which I compare, as per Hoefstede's theory, with the Czech Republic, etiquette and forms of dealing. My analysis of the business and cultural specialties during dealing with Indian partner are closed by the chapter in which I present information gathered from experienced participants of business dealing with Indian partners. This confirms or specifies my theoretical knowledge. Before the ending there is a characteristic of strong and weak aspects of the Indian business environment, mainly from the point of view of those who see India as another economic growing giant.

Podnikatelské prostředí, obchodní zvyklosti a kulturní specifika Indie s přihlédnutím ke zkušenostem firmy Adventura, s.r.o. / Business environment, negotiation habits and specific cultural differences of India based on the experience of Czech travel agency Adventura, s.r.o.

Švagr, Vojtěch January 2008 (has links)
The thesis deals with an attractive economic environment of India and its market capacity. Besides, it is focused on people's mentality and specific cultural differences. Their knowledge together with cultural respect forms the ground of international trade negotiation. Basic territory characteristics are debated afterwards as well as bilateral foreign trade between India and Czech Republic. Nevertheless, the main attention is devoted to the mentality of Indian businessmen -- a questionnaire, filled out by employees of travel agency Adventura, reveals similar experience of both regular tour guides and international managers when doing business in India. Negotiation belongs to Indians body and soul, no matter how "important" the deal is.The objective of this work is to underline the importance of intercultural perception that assumes always more attention in times of swift globalization.
