Technokratický populismus v Indii - Jak si BJP udržuje minulou vítěznou koalici / Technocratic Populism in India - How the BJP maintain their vast winning coalition

Saikia, Sabyasachi January 2022 (has links)
Technocratic-Populism in India: How Modi and the BJP Maintain Their Vast Winning Coalition Abstract Sabyasachi Saikia ID - 98898503 The politics of both technocracy and populism are viewed as hostile to representative democracy and pluralistic politics. The study of technocratic-populism in politics has proliferated in recent times, with researchers examining how both seemingly contradictory ideas combine to form a distinct political outlook or even a political logic. Furthermore, one has emerging literature examining the adverse impact of technocratic populism across various democracies. Applying Friedman's paradigm of democratic technocracy, and Ostiguy and Moffitt's performative-relational approach towards populism, this study explores technocratic- populism in Indian politics. The administration of Narendra Modi and the BJP has been widely studied and critiqued for their authoritarian, Hindu nationalist, and populist politics, with concerns over increasing religious polarization of the public and democratic backsliding. This study employs a demand-supply model to show the importance of technocratic-populist appeal in Modi and the BJP's broader political practice and discourse in impressing the voting public. With the use of survey data on the demand-side of politics, involving the examination of public...

Parning Finnson, Christoffer January 2023 (has links)

This research tried to understand how the construction of the cinematic frame works within the movies of north-American director Sofia Coppola, through the analysis of five of her films: The virgin suicides (1999), Lost in translation (2003), Marie Antoinette (2006), Somewhere (2010) and The Bling Ring (2013). To this end, the history of modern cinema in Europe and the United States in the 20th century was researched, as well as the history of independent cinema in America, contextualizing the director’s work within the indie movement of the 1990s. Theoretical foundation was based on concepts and ideas developed by authors Gilles Deleuze, Henri Bergson and André Bazin about images. The analysis process was based on the cartography and audiovisual dissection methodologies, by Deleuze, Félix Guattari and Walter Benjamin, working the images in Coppola’s movies, trying to understand how the interact with themselves and the meaning the express through the elements in the frame. Through the analysis it was understood how Coppola utilizes elements such as the feminine body, the character’s gaze, wanderings and secondary framing to reflect on the contemporary society where these images are produced.

The Difference in Differentness: Low-Risk, High-Budget versus Innovation and Creativity : An exploratory view from a game-designer’s perspective / Skillnaden i olikhet: Lågrisk, Hög-budget versus Innovation och Kreativitet : En utforskande vy från en speldesignersperspektiv

Stojnić, Slavko January 2019 (has links)
With what seems like decades of debate behind us, low-risk, high-budget, high exposure releases are still seen as a threat to creativity, innovation and health of the game industry as a whole. This exploratory pilot study aims to evaluate methods and create instruments which can be used to measure and compare the levels of differentness contained within the AAA and Indie releases. The case studies and surveys performed within this study are assessed as viable instruments for future, confirmatory studies, but with serious limitations outside of the chosen data sample.

Fenomén camp a jeho projevy a podoby v současné populárné hudbě / Camp Phenomenon and its Manifestation and Forms in Contemporary Popular Music

Hudzíková, Eliška January 2015 (has links)
1 ABSTRAKT HUDZÍKOVÁ, Eliška. Camp Phenomenon and its Manifestation and Forms in Contemporary Popular Music. [Magister thesis]. Charles University on Prague. Faculty of Humanities; Department of Electronic Culture and Semiotics. Supervisor: Mgr. Felix Borecký. Professional qualification level: Master's degree. Prague: FHS UK, 2015. This Magister thesis examines the camp phenomenon. Despite the wide scope of the term I will try to come up with a universal definition or several basic definitions which will after serve as a base for my following conclusions. The main source of my thesis is an essay Notes On a Camp written by Susan Sontag. This essay I will apply to contemporary (20th and 21st century) popular music in which I will search for camp signs and campy gestures in the work of independent popular and mainstream artists and performers. The main focus area for this thesis will be primarily visual aspect of their work - costumes, videos, appearance, … The line between campy and not campy is very thin and indefinite, that is why I will try to draw it demonstrating camp signs on chosen samples. I would also try to point out that in contemporary popular culture we consume some forms of camp without being aware that it is actually camp what we consume. KEYWORDS: camp, campy, kitsch, gay culture, popular...

...and then, Claire an indie-rock monologue; integrating the independent music scene into American musical theatre

Bahr, Mickey 01 May 2012 (has links)
For more than fifty years, the Independent (indie) Music Scene has existed as an evolving business model, allowing indie artists to develop a wealth of progressive musical ideas while creating a sustainable audience base. American Musical Theatre has an already-established rich history of adapting styles to fit concurrent trends in popular music while maintaining the story as the core of a show. While some indie artists (The Lisps, The Mountain Goats, Stephin Merritt, and Stew) and some musical theatre composers (David Yazbek, Doug Crossley, and Michael Friedman) have created crossover works, there is currently an overall dearth of musical theatre pieces infused with the indie style and a lack of indie albums with an actable musical theatre storyline. The intent of this thesis is to prove that although American Musical Theatre and the Independent Music Scene are two vastly different art forms, they can be combined to create a viable and unique form that appeals to both audiences. The indie-rock monologue ...and then, Claire was composed, recorded, and performed to test the viability of this thesis. In addition to presenting research on the history of American Musical Theatre and the Independent Music Scene, an analysis of the already-successful artists mentioned above is presented to provide context for ...and then, Claire. This context along with the original indie-rock monologue proves successful combinations of American Musical Theatre and the Independent Music Scene as well as the potential for more attempts in the future.

More buildings about songs and food: A case study of Omaha's Slowdown project.

Seman, Michael 08 1900 (has links)
The success of independent rock music ("indie rock"), once a marginalized sub-genre of the rock idiom and now a globally recognized cultural force, has impacted the urban landscape of Omaha, Nebraska via the mixed-use urban redevelopment project, "Slowdown" - a result of cultural production by the city's successful indie rock business entities. While geographic research has previously analyzed urban redevelopment initiated by fine artists, the event of indie rock music being a catalyst for urban redevelopment has never been considered in a geographic scope. By examining the topics of affordable technological tools, Omaha's reduced cost-of-living, and cooperative efforts by city leaders, insight into how an indie rock "scene" can become a successful urban redevelopment catalyst is gained.

Portrét mystické básnířky Mahádéví Varmy / The portrait of mystic poet Mahadevi Varma

Zmeková, Barbora January 2014 (has links)
This thesis presents the mystic poetess Mahadevi Varma, whose poetic work is of the Chhayavad period of Hindi poetry. The thesis introduces the reader to the dynamics of modern Hindi poetry. The main focus is on Varma's life and includes an analysis of her poetic work. The paper addresses Varma's use of traditional Indian literary elements in a modern context, which represents characteristic features of Chhayavad in general. A distinguishing factor of this thesis are translations of Mahadevi Varma's poems from Hindi into Czech. The translations are not direct translations but take poetic license to retain the spirit of the poetry in Czech.
