Många bäckar små : En undersökning om hur svenska indiemusikbolag genom deras resurstillgångar fortlever inom musikbranschen / Many a little makes a mickle : A study of how Swedish indie music companies through their resource assets survive in the music industry

Drugge, Olle January 2021 (has links)
The main purpose of this study is to find out how Swedish independent music labels survive in the music industry. The study aims to examine the independent music labels based on their resource assets and how they through these assets can compete within the music market for continued survival. The empirical data consists of interviews with 5 informants who all runs an independent music label in Sweden today. The data was analyzed using Pierre Bourdieus capital theory and the related field concept. Based on Bourdieu’s concept of capital, I have introduced the indie capital, which is a capital of information that grows with your time on the music industry field.   The results of this study shows that where the indie music labels lack economical capital, they use their cultural capital and convert it into economical capital with the help of super fans. It is also of importance to build a large song catalog from which the labels can receive a stable income. Further the results shows that the indie capital was essential when the labels were founded and remains essential for continued survival within the industry in forms of knowledge and experience. The social capital acts as en exchange of mainly the indie capital between the independent music labels. It turned out that the indie music labels acted as both competitors and colleagues within the field which means that the indie music labels can turn to each other when it is needed.

“Det har blivit svårt att älska,när all kärlek lett till besvikelse” : – En studie om kärlek och genusrepresentation i HåkanHellströms och Veronica Maggios låttexter. / “It’s been difficult to love, when all love has led to disappointment” : – A study about love and gender representation in Håkan Hellström’s and Veronica Maggio’s lyrics.

Lysfoss Gunnerfeldt, Isak January 2015 (has links)
This is an essay about love and gender representation in Håkan Hellström’s and Veronica Maggio’s lyrics. The purpose of this essay is to investigate how lyrics of indie-pop music represent gender, sexuality and love. The lyrics used is from love songs performed by Håkan Hellström and Veronica Maggio. The method for examining the lyrics of the love songs is discourse- theory and analysis. I analyzed the results using theories about performativity, heteronormativity and masculine hegemonyic masculinity. I found patterns which indicate that love songs in indie-pop music often represents an ideal relationship to be heteronomy, meaning a heterosexual and monogamous relationship between a man and a woman. Although, there were differences between how a masculinity was built; Hellström’s discourse built a masculinity that was fragile and vulnerable, but still loving and showing a lot of emotions. Maggios discourse built a masculinity that were more or less mirroring the society’s view of how a “man” is supposed to be. Also, the view of femininity differed from the two artists: Hellström’s discourse built a femininity of strong and controlling women, and Maggio’s built a more fragile and normative discourse about femininity. Another theme that was discovered was of all the disappointment that was found in love. Indie-pop’s love is always built around disappointment in the relationship – that you will always be disappointed either by yourself or by your partner.

Everyone is invited : How access to development tools influences innovation democracy and bridges the digital divide

Pettersson, Mona, Stöckel, Fredrik January 2016 (has links)
Indie studios, which used to have a challenging time creating and releasing games, are on the rise. In the past, these studios have had a hard time getting their hands on useable tools. Indie developers at the time had to work with basic tools in order to create games less technologically advanced. This created a gap between triple-A and indie studios that, at the time, was widely disregarded. This stands as the lens for our study. We begin by conducting a prestudy that looks at the statistics behind games on steam. After this we form our interview questions and conducted both standardized open-ended interviews as well as surveys. The data collected suggest that there is a correlation between the availability of ease-of-use tools and content created. In our discussion we bring forth ideas about how this may help reduce the knowledge gap, and nurture the online innovation democracy.
