Landscapes of Technology Transfer : Swedish Ironmakers in India 1860–1864Af Geijerstam, Jan January 2004 (has links)
In the early 1860s three Swedes, Nils Wilhelm Mitander,Julius Ramsay and Gustaf Wittenström, were engaged by theBritish to build and run charcoal-based ironworks in India.These works, the Burwai Iron Works of the British Government inthe case of Mitander and the privately owned Kumaon Iron Worksin the case of Ramsay and Wittenström, were both to bebased on the most modern European technology. The projects werepioneering in Indian ironmaking. The ambitions were high andstakes big, but after only a few years the projects were closedand the Swedes returned home.Landscapes of Technology Transferpresents a detailedstudy of the Kumaon and Burwai Iron Works, from their firstconception to their final closure. The investigation isbasically empirical and a fundamental question is: Why were theworks never brought into full and continuous production? The ironworks projects should be considered as processes oftechnology transfer rather than fully fledged and completedtransfers. In spite of this lack of success, or maybe becauseof it, the history of the ironworks and the Swedes also forms afruitful case to put other questions of wide relevance. Itexposes workings and effects of colonialism and offers anexplanation of the late development of India's iron and steelindustry and analyses of the complex totality forming theprerequisites for a successful transfer of technology. The longtraditions of bloomery ironmaking in India and ismarginalisation is also discussed. Landscapes of Technology Transferis a comprehensiveempirical study. From a local and individual perspective ittraces lines of connection across boundaries of time andgeography. The historical landscapes of technology transfer aredescribed in their cultural, social, economic and politicaldimensions and the thesis underlines the importance of a closeacquaintance with local settings and conditions, where historyis manifested in a physical presence. The remains of theironworks and theirlocal landscapes in present-day India areused as a central source for writing their histories. There isalso a strong emphasis on the use of photographs and drawingsas sources. The outcome of the projects was the result of the interplaybetween the local and the global, between a diversity ofconcrete factors influencing the construction of the works andtheir running and their colonial character. The studyemphasises the importance of technological systems andnetworks, both on a micro and a macro level. On a local leveldemanding logistics, a sometimes adverse climate, theprocurement of charcoal and iron ore in sufficient quantitiesand the build up of knowledge of ironmaking posed serious butnot insurmountable difficulties. Most obstacles were overcomealready during the first few years of the 1860s, the period ofthe Swedes, but to put the works into full and continuousproduction would have needed perseverance and purposefulefforts to support and protect the iron production, at leastduring an initial period. In the end the position of India as acolonial dependency, subjected to the primacy of Britishinterests, set the limits of the projects. electrical equipments used in industrial applications mainly because presents low cost and large robustness, however, it isn t protected from other fault types such as shorted
winding and broken bars. Several acquisition ways, processing and signal analysis are applied to improve its diagnosis. More efficient techniques use current sensors and its
signature analysis. In this dissertation, starting of these sensors, it is to make signal analysis through Park s vector that provides a good visualization capability. Faults data
acquisition is an arduous task; in this way, it is developed a methodology for data base construction. Park s transformer is applied into stationary reference for machine modeling of the machine s differential equations solution. Faults detection needs a detailed analysis of variables and its influences that becomes the diagnosis more complex. The tasks of pattern recognition allow that systems are automatically
generated, based in patterns and data concepts, in the majority cases undetectable for specialists, helping decision tasks. Classifiers algorithms with diverse learning paradigms: k-Neighborhood, Neural Networks, Decision Trees and Na?ves Bayes are used to patterns recognition of machines faults. Os motores de indu??o trif?sicos s?o os equipamentos el?tricos mais utilizados na industria, pois apresentam um baixo custo e boa robustez, entretanto, n?o est?o imunes a diversos tipos de falhas como curto-circuitos nos enrolamentos e quebra de barras rot?ricas. Previous issue date: 2005-07-28 / There are two main approaches for using in adaptive controllers. One is the so-called model reference adaptive control (MRAC), and the other is the so-called adaptive pole placement control (APPC). In MRAC, a reference model is chosen to generate the desired trajectory that the plant output has to follow, and it can require cancellation of the plant zeros. Due to its flexibility in choosing the controller design methodology (state feedback, compensator design, linear quadratic, etc.) and the adaptive law (least squares, gradient, etc.), the APPC is the most general type of adaptive control. Traditionally, it has been developed in an indirect approach and, as an advantage, it may be applied to non-minimum phase plants, because do not involve plant zero-pole cancellations. The integration to variable structure systems allows to aggregate fast transient and robustness to parametric uncertainties and disturbances, as well. In this work, a variable structure adaptive pole placement control (VS-APPC) is proposed. Therefore, new switching laws are proposed, instead of using the traditional integral adaptive laws. Additionally, simulation results for an unstable first order system and simulation and practical results for a three-phase induction motor are shown / Existem dois m?todos principais para a constru??o de controladores adaptativos. way. In some specific applications, there is a need for electrical motors to function with noncontaminated
fluids, in high speed systems, under inhospitable conditions, or yet, in local of
difficult access and considerable depth. In these cases, the motors with mechanical bearings
are not adequate as their wear give rise to maintenance. A possible solution for these
problems stems from two different alternatives: motors with magnetic bearings, that increase
the length of the machine (not convenient), and the bearingless motors that aggregate
compactness. Induction motors have been used more and more in research, as they confer
more robustness to bearingless motors compared to other types of machines building with
others motors. The research that has already been carried out with bearingless induction
motors utilized prototypes that had their structures of stator/rotor modified, that differ most of
the times from the conventional induction motors. The goal of this work is to study the
viability of the use of conventional induction Motors for the beringless motors applications,
pointing out the types of Motors of this category that can be more useful. The study uses the
Finite Elements Method (FEM). As a means of validation, a conventional induction motor
with squirrel-cage rotor was successfully used for the beringless motor application of the
divided winding type, confirming the proposed thesis. The controlling system was
implemented in a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) / Motores el?tricos transformam energia el?trica em energia mec?nica com relativa
facilidade. Em algumas aplica??es particulares, necessita-se de motores el?tricos para
trabalhar com flu?dos sem contamina??o, em regime de altas velocidades, em condi??es
in?spitas, ou, ainda, em locais de dif?cil acesso e ? profundidade bastante consider?vel. Nestes
casos, os motores com mancais mec?nicos, cujo desgaste ocasiona a necessidade de
manuten??es, n?o s?o adequados. Uma solu??o poss?vel para este problema adv?m de duas
alternativas: motores com mancais magn?ticos, que t?m o inconveniente de aumentar o
comprimento da m?quina, e motores-mancais, que agregam compacidade. Motores de
indu??o t?m sido cada vez mais utilizados em pesquisas, pois conferem maior robustez aos
motores-mancais comparados a esses tipos de m?quinas constru?das com outros motores. As
pesquisas j? realizadas com motores-mancais de indu??o utilizaram prot?tipos, cujas
estruturas do estator e/ou rotor foram modificadas, diferindo em grande parte dos motores de
indu??o convencionais. ? objetivo deste trabalho, estudar a viabilidade do uso dos motores de
indu??o convencionais para a aplica??o de motores-mancais, apontando os tipos de motores
dessa categoria que mais se ad?quam. O estudo utiliza o M?todo dos Elementos Finitos
FEM. Como comprova??o, um motor de indu??o convencional com rotor gaiola de esquilo foi
utilizado com sucesso para a aplica??o de motor-mancal do tipo enrolamento dividido,
ratificando a tese proposta. O sistema de controle foi implementado em um Processador

the world due to several factors: political, environmental, financial and others. Within this
context, we have in particular the energy obtained through wind, wind energy - that has
highlighted with rapid growth in recent years, including in Brazil, mostly in the Northeast,
due to it s benefit-cost between the clean energies. In this context, we propose to compare
the variable structure adaptive pole placement control (VS-APPC) with a traditional
control technique proportional integral controller (PI), applied to set the control of machine
side in a conversion system using a wind generator based on Double-Fed Induction
Generator (DFIG). Robustness and performance tests were carried out to the uncertainties
of the internal parameters of the machine and variations of speed reference. / As fontes de energia renov?veis t?m, na ?ltima d?cada, ganho uma grande propuls?o

L’atteinte à la marque renommée / Infringement of the trade mark with a reputationBohaczewski, Michal 15 December 2017 (has links)
Le présent travail propose une étude sur l’étendue de la protection spéciale de la marque renommée. Dans le cadre de l’examen du régime actuel, il convient d’analyser la notion fondamentale de marque renommée, ainsi que celle de marque notoirement connue. Ensuite, sont examinées les conditions de l’atteinte à la marque renommée communes à toutes les formes d’atteinte : premièrement les conditions positives, et notamment celle de l’existence d’un lien dans l’esprit du public entre la marque renommée invoquée et le signe litigieux, deuxièmement, les conditions négatives, et en particulier l’exception du juste motif. L’étude présente les différentes formes d’atteinte à la marque renommées reconnues en l’état actuel du droit : la dilution, l’avilissement et le profit indûment tiré du caractère distinctif ou de la renommée de la marque. Selon la thèse défendue dans le travail, toutes ces formes d’atteinte à la marque renommée ont des finalités distinctes et sont indépendantes les unes des autres, en permettant de sanctionner différentes hypothèses d’usages de marques renommées par des tiers. Par ailleurs, l’étude situe le régime spécial par rapport au droit commun, d’une part, au droit commun des marques, en distinguant la protection élargie de l’hypothèse du risque de confusion, et, d’autre part, au droit commun de la responsabilité civile qui sanctionne le parasitisme susceptible de compléter la protection conférée aux titulaires sur le terrain de la protection de la marque renommée. Enfin, le travail présente une analyse de la problématique de la réparation des atteintes à la marque renommée en fonction de la forme d’atteinte établie par le titulaire. / The work offers a study on the scope of the special protection of the trade mark with a reputation. In the context of the assessment of the current regime, it is necessary to analyse the fundamental concept of the trade mark with a reputation, as well as the concept of the well known trade mark. Then, the conditions for infringement of the trade mark with a reputation common to all forms of infringement are examined: firstly, the positive conditions, in particular the existence of a link established in the public mind between the mark invoked and the sign in dispute, secondly, the negative conditions, in particular the exception of due cause. The study presents the various forms of infringement of trade marks with a reputation: dilution by blurring, dilution by tarnishment and unfair advantage taken of the distinctive character or the repute of the trade mark. According to the thesis of the work, all those forms of infringement have distinct purposes and are independent of each other, allowing to sanction various uses of trade marks with a reputation by third parties. In addition, the study places the special regime in relation to ordinary law, on the one hand, to the ordinary law of trade marks, by distinguishing between the extended protection and the likelihood of confusion, and, on the other hand, to the ordinary law of civil liability which sanctions the free-riding likely to complete the protection conferred on the right holders by the special regime. Finally, the work presents an analysis of the problem of repairing infringements of the trade marks with a reputation according to the form of infringement established by the right holder. / Rozprawa stanowi studium zakresu szczególnej ochrony renomowanego znaku towarowego. Pracazawiera pogłębioną analizę ewolucji ochrony znaku poza granicami specjalizacji. W ramach ocenyaktualnie obowiązującego reżimu wprowadzonego przez ustawodawcę unijnego w dyrektywieo znakach towarowych oraz w rozporządzeniu o znaku towarowym Unii Europejskiej wypadadokonać analizy fundamentalnego pojęcia znaku renomowanego, jak i pojęcia znaku powszechnieznanego. Następnie analizie poddano przesłanki naruszenia prawa do znaku renomowanegowspólne dla wszystkich postaci naruszenia: w pierwszej kolejności przesłanki pozytywne,w szczególności przesłankę powstania w świadomości odbiorców związku pomiędzy znakiemrenomowanym i spornym oznaczeniem, w drugiej kolejności, przesłanki negatywne, w szczególnościwyjątek uzasadnionej przyczyny używania znaku. Rozprawa przedstawia poszczególne postacinaruszenia prawa do znaku renomowanego uznane w obecnym stanie prawnym: szkodę dlaodróżniającego charakteru (rozwodnienie), szkodę dla renomy (degradację) oraz nienależnąkorzyść czerpaną z odróżniającego charakteru lub renomy znaku. Zgodnie z tezą bronioną w pracy,wszystkie postaci naruszenia prawa do znaku renomowanego służą odrębnym celom i są niezależnewobec siebie, pozwalając sankcjonować różne przypadki używania znaków renomowanych przezosoby trzecie. Ponadto reżim szczególnej ochrony jest w rozprawie sytuowany na tle ogólnychprzepisów prawa, z jednej strony, ogólnego prawa znaków towarowych, poprzez odróżnienierozszerzonej ochrony od hipotezy ryzyka konfuzji, z drugiej strony, przepisów ogólnychprzewidujących sankcje wobec działań charakteryzujących pasożytnictwo, które uzupełniająochronę przyznaną uprawnionym na gruncie prawa do znaku renomowanego. W pracy poddanorównież analizie problematykę odpowiedzialności majątkowej za naruszenie prawa do znakurenomowanego, biorąc pod uwagę postać naruszenia wykazaną przez uprawnionego.
