This study deals with the program, personnel, and physical plant of the Utah State Industrial School. Studies made of the school are few. Among them, the survey made by John Schapps, Field Consultant of the National Probation Association, between January and July, 1946, is probably the most comprehensive and professional in nature. Since Mr. Schappe's study began only three months after Mr. Parley Kilburn was appointed superintendent, this investigator covered conditions mainly as they were under the old administration. This study aims at comparison of conditions, facilities and programs as they existed in 1947 and in 1949 with those found by John Schapps.

It is to be observed that delinquent children are socially and to a degree, emotionally maladjusted. This social and emotional maladjustment includes:
I. Children who are extremely disruptive, destructive, hostile, impulsive and delinquent.
II. Children who are immature, overfearful, withdrawn, uncommunicative, apathetic, and readily thrown off balance.
III. Children of good intelligence but with severe learning disabilities resulting in poor academic achievement. One rarely finds such a child who does not also manifest a more general pattern of emotional disorders.
IV. Children with severe psychic disorders as diagnosed by clinicians.
The adherents of the psychiatric approach to delinquency have typically regarded antisocial behavior as a result of emotional disturbance in an individual. All deviant behavior is seen as a make-up of something in the individual which may be labeled variously as personal disorganization, intrapsychic conflict, or "maladjusted personality," and this psychological "sickness" interferes with the normal development of conformity (Aichhorn, 1935 ; Fenichel, 1945; Karpman, 1935; Redland and Wineman, 1951, 1952; Zilborg, 1943).
There is an extensive overlapping and interchanging of symptoms among these children. However, it was noted from a review of the literature and from a study of a fairly large sample at the Utah State Industrial School (here-in-after referred to as SIS) that there are several reasonably well differentiated fundamental patterns of behavior displayed by maladjusted children.

Previous issue date: 2017-02-20 / Não recebi financiamento / The Joaquim Ferreira do Amaral Industrial School in Jau, since the first years of operation was designed to train the student for the imminent industrialization and urbanization of the city. Considering this aspect, the present study has as general objective to analyze its role as teacher of the student-worker until 1960, justifying the need to rescue the history of this educational institution, understanding it in its particularities and intentionalities. For this, the epistemological paradigm adopted was historical-dialectic, aiming at understanding society in a scientific perspective, in which man creates a relation with the environment in which he is inserted, and is responsible for interfering in him. The sources used were books, journals and scientific articles, completion papers, local and regional newspapers, photographs and reports of students, teachers and employees of the time. Thus, through the research, it was possible to analyze the representativeness of the Industrial School, seeking to unveil what it meant in the developmentalist reality of jauense, that is, analyzing the political and economic context of its creation and the earliest times. Place of implantation was intentional, as it met the national industrial proposals, which resulted in the great acceptance of the establishment throughout the region. / A Escola Industrial Joaquim Ferreira do Amaral de Jaú, desde os primeiros anos de funcionamento teve o intuito de formar o aluno para a iminente industrialização e urbanização da cidade. Considerando tal aspecto, o presente estudo tem como objetivo geral analisar seu papel como formadora do aluno-trabalhador até 1960, justificando-se pela necessidade de resgatar a história dessa instituição de ensino, compreendendo-a nas suas particularidades e intencionalidades. Para tanto, o paradigma epistemológico adotado foi histórico-dialético, visando a compreender a sociedade numa perspectiva científica, na qual o homem cria uma relação com o meio em que está inserido, e é responsável por interferir nele. As fontes utilizadas foram livros, revistas e artigos científicos, trabalhos de conclusão de curso, jornais locais e regionais, fotografias e relatos de alunos, professores e funcionários da época. Desta forma, através da pesquisa, foi possível analisar a representatividade da Escola Industrial, buscando desvendar o que ela significou na realidade desenvolvimentista jauense, isto é, analisando o contexto político-econômico da sua criação e os primeiros tempos, se constatou que a escolha do local de implantação foi intencional, pois atendia às propostas industriais nacionais, o que resultou na grande aceitação do estabelecimento em toda a região.

Previous issue date: 2012-03-26 / Coordena??o de Aperfei?oamento de Pessoal de N?vel Superior / This paper presents a reconstruction of the historical trajectory of the Escola Industrial de Natal (Industrial School of Natal), in the period 1942 to 1968, based on the analysis of its cultural, social and pedagogical characteristics in a process in which its educational practices and the individuals who constructed them were getting involved in their actions. In this sense, the concepts of memory and school culture occupied a central place to understand the elements that characterized its administrative and pedagogical organization such as, for example, its curriculum, aims, disciplinary rules, clientele, teachers, leaders and the configuration of the institutional power. Designed to meet the demands of an industrial process that has strengthened in the country, throughout its history, the Escola Industrial de Natal was becoming a space predominantly occupied by individuals, from economically disadvantaged social groups in society, in search of a professional training that would guarantee them the exercise of a profession. The time frame from 1942 to 1968 allowed us to verify the changes caused by the Organic Law of Industrial Education of 1942, and the Law number 3.552, from 1959, in the organizational structure of this school. In this context, a characteristic that was evident was the purpose of making it flow between the students the love for the country, the respect for civic values and the belief that industrial education would be able to boost the country's development, an aspect that reached a bigger dimension from the 1950 s. Marked the disciplinary character of this institution the control over the actions of individuals, developed through its multiple educational practices in specific areas and in the predetermined time, under the constant gaze of those who participated, in some from, in driving this process. On the other hand, the vocational and human training, provided to students, allowed new opportunities for social integration, not only in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, but also in other regions of Brazil. Conversely, during his career, the Escola Industrial de Natal has remained being seen as an organized institution, with good teachers, but intended for the children of others / Este trabalho apresenta a reconstitui??o da trajet?ria hist?rica da Escola Industrial de Natal, no per?odo de 1942 a 1968, fundamentada na an?lise de suas caracter?sticas culturais, sociais e pedag?gicas, num processo em que as pr?ticas educativas e os sujeitos que as constitu?ram foram sendo desvelados em suas a??es. Nesse sentido, os conceitos de mem?ria e cultura escolar ocuparam um lugar central para a compreens?o dos elementos que caracterizaram a sua organiza??o administrativa e pedag?gica como, por exemplo, o curr?culo, finalidades, normas disciplinares, clientela, professores, dirigentes e a configura??o do poder institucional. Line "State, Policies and History of Education", of the Post-Graduation Program in Education of
the Federal University of Goiás. factors that contributed to the implementation and development of
the Technical Course on Roads started at the Industrial School of Cuiabá and made official at the
Federal Technical School of Mato Grosso. The research, unprecedented for this type of course in
Mato Grosso, had as its main question: what led the EIC to choose the Technical Course on Roads
in the 1960s? In order to answer this question, it was also sought to investigate the installation and
functioning process, the curricular structure, the faculty and student of its first class, as well as it
was instituted and started in the extinct Cuiabá Industrial School, considering the various aspects
involved, such as the national educational policy and regional development, internal and external
interests of the daily school that came to support its creation. The documentary research was
carried out in the researched collections of some important institutions such as Library and
Permanent Archive of the IFMT / Campus Cuiabá-Octayde Jorge da Silva, Public Archive of Mato
Grosso (APMT); Archive and Library of the Barão de Melgaço House (ACBM / MT), Federal
Revenue Archive in Mato Grosso (ARFMT); Museum of Image and Sound of Cuiabá (MISC); 9th
Battalion of Construction Engineering (9th B.E.CNST), National Service of Commercial Learning
of Mato Grosso (SENAC / MT), and Center for Research Libraries (CLR). It considers the possible
influences to the fact that the country is experiencing a period of great turbulence at national level,
carried out by the military government. It analyzes the various structural transformations through
which the Institution has passed until the creation of the first group of the Technical Course on
Roads at the Federal Technical School of Mato Grosso, now called the Federal Institute of
Education, Science and Technology of Mato Grosso (IFMT). It relates the creation of the course
with some influences related to the expansionist needs of both the federal government and the state
government since the beginning of the twentieth century, culminating with the need to introduce
skilled labor to support the developmental plans that propelled the state in opening up and the
colonization of the northern region of the state of Mato Grosso, which began in the 1950s. The
analyzes produced allow us to affirm that the implementation of the Technical Course on Roads
was designed to form a quality technical workforce in the process of expansion of the road network
of the implemented by the Strategic Development Program in the 1960s and 1970s. / Esta dissertação, de cunho histórico-documental e bibliográfico, inscreve-se na Linha de Pesquisa
“Estado, Políticas e História da Educação”, do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação da
Universidade Federal de Goiás. O objetivo da pesquisa foi buscar compreender os fatores que
contribuíram para a implantação e desenvolvimento do Curso Técnico em Estradas iniciado na
Escola Industrial de Cuiabá e oficializado na Escola Técnica Federal de Mato Grosso. A pesquisa,
inédita para esta modalidade de curso em Mato Grosso, teve como indagação principal: o que
levou a EIC a optar pela oferta do Curso Técnico em Estradas na década de 1960? Para responder a
essa indagação, buscou-se investigar, também, o processo de instalação e funcionamento, a
estrutura curricular, o corpo docente e discente da sua primeira turma, bem como ele foi instituído
e iniciado na extinta Escola Industrial de Cuiabá, considerando os diversos aspectos envolvidos,
como a política educacional nacional e de desenvolvimento regional, interesses internos e externos
do cotidiano escolar que vieram dar suporte a sua criação. A pesquisa documental foi realizada nos
acervos pesquisados de algumas instituições importantes como Biblioteca e Arquivo Permanente
do IFMT/Campus Cuiabá-Octayde Jorge da Silva, Arquivo Público de Mato Grosso (APMT);

Engenharia de Construção (9° B.E.CNST), Serviço Nacional de Aprendizagem Comercial de Mato
Grosso (SENAC/MT), e Center for Research Libraries (CLR). Considera as possíveis influências
ao fato de o país estar vivenciando um período de grande turbulência em nível nacional,
protagonizado pelo governo militar. Analisa as diversas transformações estruturais pelas quais a
Instituição passou até a criação da primeira turma do curso Técnico em Estradas na Escola Técnica
Federal de Mato Grosso, hoje denominada Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia de
Mato Grosso (IFMT). Relaciona a criação do curso com algumas influências relacionadas às
necessidades expansionistas tanto do governo federal como do governo estadual desde o início do
século XX, culminando com a necessidade de introduzir mão de obra qualificada para dar suporte
aos planos desenvolvimentistas que impulsionavam o estado na abertura de estradas e na
colonização da região norte do estado de Mato Grosso, iniciadas na década de 1950. As análises
produzidas permitem afirmar que a implantação do Curso Técnico em Estradas foi idealizada para
formar mão de obra técnica de qualidade no processo de expansão da malha viária do estado
implementado pelo Programa Estratégico de Desenvolvimento nas décadas de 1960 e 1970.

This diploma thesis deals with development of industrial school in Volyně in the last one hundred years (1914-2014). Due to such long and rich history of this industrial school, being the second oldest functioning school of this kind, we covered the last one hundred years. Division into chapters follows the changes of school name where such change reflects certain social situation. In this work you can find development of school, its capacity problems which could be solved by looking for and subsequent finding a suitable place for construction and following building of school grounds, problems with accommodation and boarding of students. We keep track of changes related to changes of political situation, changes of study length, fields of study, students´ activities etc. Certain space is related to presentation of school to public (competitions, exhibitions, seminars). In this work you can also find some interesting facts which characterize given period. Sources for this thesis were taken from the archive materials of State district archive in Strakonice, annuals and annual reports of school and school chronicles. This work should contribute to covering history of education system in Volyně.
