Der vorliegende Bericht geht aus dem Praktikum hervor, welches Laura Rebecca Klettke als Studentin der Digital Humanities von Anfang Dezember 2020 bis Anfang Februar 2021 am Leibniz-Institut für Länderkunde (IfL) absolvierte. Es war das erste Praktikum, das im Rahmen des Forschungsprojektes „Raumsemantiken der Geographie im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert“ in der Abteilung Theorie, Methodik und Geschichte der Geographie betreut wurde (Projektleitung: Ute Wardenga, weitere Wissenschaftler*innen im Projekt: Ninja Steinbach-Hüther, Dirk Hänsgen).1 Darüber hinaus handelt es sich auch um das erste Praktikum einer Studentin aus dem Bereich der Digital Humanities überhaupt am IfL

Commodity chains and cognates approaches are widely debated in many social science disciplines to understand and explain the drivers, mechanisms and effects of transnational production processes, including development perspectives and economic inequalities. This article aims to situate the understanding of commodity chains and cognate approaches as historically constituted imaginations of spatial economic relations that contingently travel between scientific disciplines and a wide range of social actors (policy makers, enterprises). The article is based on a spatial heuristic for understanding globalization processes inspired by the Leipzig school of global studies. Discussing commodity chains as spatial formats defined by the interplay of imagination / materialization in the context of particular spatial orders (of a globalized economy), leads to a number of hitherto less explored research questions. Drawing on this school of theorizing, I argue that the multiplicity of approaches should be embraced but simultaneously questioned from the perspective of why, how and for whom differences in imagination and enactment matter. Building upon the centrality of performativity based on the interplay of imagination / materialization, I highlight four areas (divided into chain actors and along imagination and materialization) in which commodity chain related research could benefit from a closer engagement with the Leipzig school heuristic.

In the context of the DFG Collaborative Research Centre “Processes of Spatialisation under the Global Condition”, the project “Innovative technology enterprises at unusual locations in Central Asia and Africa” analyses processes of spatialisation, spatial practices and networks of internationally successful, innovative and locally rooted enterprises. Our research is about the emergence and development of these companies in the context of dominant imaginations of the so-called global knowledge economy (GKE) and the inherent spatial order of ‘core’ and ‘peripheral’ regions at global scale (cf. Roberts 2009). Empirically, the project focusses on the spatial agency of innovative companies as economic actors in countries beyond the Global North and in regions outside of the large agglomerations which are often referred to as ‘hot spots’ of the global economy.

Die Debatte um „Forschungsdatenmanagement“ (FDM) hat in den vergangenen Jahren in der akademischen Welt stetig an Bedeutung gewonnen. Geldgebende Institutionen knüpfen ihre Förderbewilligungen zunehmend an die Bedingung einer langfristigen Sicherung und – wo möglich – auch Verfügbarmachung von Forschungsdaten. Förderer und Wissenschaftseinrichtungen haben mehrheitlich Leitlinien verfasst, welche Grundsätze im Umgang mit Forschungsdaten festlegen. Der grundlegende Tenor dieser Papiere und die darin enthaltenen Elemente und Argumente sind meist ähnlich und werden im Folgenden kurz erläutert.
