Initial Screening : A talent's qualities within the matching process between employer and talent in the Business Sector

Lodewijk, Niels, Mastenbroek, Roselique January 2008 (has links)

The importance of human capital is rising tremendously since the last few decades. Human capital is now rewarded as the most important factor in an organization on the way to success. Nowadays in the Netherlands talents need to be able to show employers that they possess certain qualities and employers need to be able to show that they offer something worthwhile for talents. The match is:

You can employ men and hire hands to work for you, but you must win their hearts to have them work with you. —Tiorio

This research project is primarily about the initial screening within the matching process, where both parties (employer & talent) need to express themselves to each other without having live contact. The strategic question throughout this research is: How can we explain problems between employer and talent during the initial screening phase in the matching process, in terms of measuring, explicating and expressing qualities?

Within this question perspectives of both parties are included: to understand the position, requirements and expectations of qualities. The objective of this research is to explore, get insight in and elaborate on the process taking place in the initial meeting. This is researched through qualitative research in the form of a mix of interviews, experiments and text analyses.

The result of this research conducts of several tips based on the analyses of this research. The tips are for talents as well as employers. Even though the results of this research were very diverse from the talent‘s perspective, some patterns could be seen. From the employers’ perspective the answers were less diverse and more clear patterns emerged. Altogether many interesting aspects are highlighted in this research.

Faced with a teaching that is sometimes filled with rules to be memorized and with no meaning for the student, in particular the mathematical contents, we aim to analyze how mathematical strategies presented by the students of the Pedagogy course, aiming at a classification of mathematical problems not referring to reasoning : (i) concrete; (ii) graph (iii) arithmetic; and (iv) algebraic, with a view to the construction and not only the memorization of facts and formulas, raising questions related to the formation of the mathematics teacher. This research of a qualitative nature occurred in part with: (a) observation of mathematics classes; and (b) accomplishment of a set of mathematical problems, activities with the unemployed during a course of mathematics teaching in the course of the Course of Pedagogy semester of 2016.1. Previously, we also searched in books, theses and periodicals, research on teaching and learning math in the early years of elementary school. Collected as information, we began as analyzes on how strategies for students in solving the problems categorized as answers from the series made by Johannot (1947) regarding mathematical reasoning. The results indicate new and better spaces for reflection both in initial teacher training and in updating with students of Basic Education, especially in the initial years of elementary education. We show with this research the relevance in terms of an understanding of how Pedagogy students build their problem solving strategies and as consequences for the teaching of mathematical contents. What is the object of study of the research and the understanding of the strategies presented by the students on the mathematical reasoning, for the understanding as the strong support as observations to the actions mediated by the teacher, in particular, in the construction of new knowledge through the Fedathi Sequence.

NATIVE SPEAKERS' REALIZATIONS OF WORD-INITIAL FRICATIVE + CONSONANT CLUSTERS IN ENGLISH NON-WORDS

Sheppard, Samantha 01 August 2014 (has links)
This study examines the role of voiceless and voiced fricatives as the first consonant in word-initial true consonant clusters and adjunct clusters. Specifically, this study sought evidence to determine whether the lack of voiced fricatives, such as /z/ and /v/, in English word-initial true and adjunct clusters is due to an active ban or an accidental gap in the language's phonotactics. This study also looked into whether the voiceless alveolar fricative /s/ is the only fricative that can play the role of adjunct segment in word-initial adjunct clusters, or whether other fricatives, such as the voiced alveolar fricative /z/, or the voiceless and voiced labiodental fricatives /f/ and /v/ could also be adjunct segments in word-initial adjunct clusters. Fourteen native English speakers were asked to pronounce a list of non-words containing word-initial clusters with /s/, /f/, /z/, and /v/ as the first consonant and /r/, /l/, /n/, /k/, and /g/ as the second consonant. The clusters were chosen to represent different voicing statuses and places of articulation for the first consonant in the cluster, in addition to differing sonority distances between the first consonant and the second consonant of the word-initial cluster. The native English speaker productions were recorded and acoustically analyzed in order to determine the exact pronunciations each speaker used for each target cluster. The results were then statistically analyzed to reveal patterns. Results showed that the lack of voiced fricatives as the first consonant in word-initial position of true clusters in English is due to an accidental gap, due to the relatively numerous correct productions of such clusters. The the lack of voiced fricatives as the first consonant in word-initial position of adjunct clusters in English, however, is due to an active ban, due to the difficulty that the native English speakers had in correctly producing such clusters. This study also concluded that while /s/ is the only adjunct segment in English, /f/ could also play that role.

Ariane Baffa Lourenço 22 May 2013 (has links)
The initial training of teacher\'s is a moment of utmost importance, because it should provide the undergraduate the theoretical basis of the content of their future area of expertise, and experiences of methodologies they can use in classroom to enhance the teaching-learning process. Argumentation was highlighted among the methodological issues, since by our experience as teacher\'s trainer; we have noticed that there are few undergraduate skills in developing actions that promote an argumentative environment in classroom. Thus, in this study our objectives are to study the contributions of a dynamic training linked to the Supervised Internship in developing a reflective teaching practice, resuscitation and knowledge sharing regarding the use of argumentation in the classroom. Therefore we wish to contribute to the actions of planning and development in the courses of initial teacher\'s training which will prepare the undergraduates to address argumentative strategies in the classroom. The research was conducted with six undergraduates of Bachelor of Mathematical Science who attended the Teaching Practice of Chemistry discipline. In this discipline, the undergraduates had to, in their regency, develop and implement Chemistry classes for high school in an argumentative environment. Data were collected in the developed actions on five occasions, firstly we studied the conceptions that the undergraduates had about argumentation, secondly activities related to practical curricular training were developed, thirdly the activities aimed to provide a basis for future teachers about the use of argumentation in the context of teaching and learning. Fourthly the undergraduates developed and ministered their regency and lastly they had room for reflection of their teaching practice from an individual to a collective perspective. As a source of data collection, we used observations with journaling, interviews, questionnaires, audio and video recordings, projects and regency reports and materials posted on the course blog. As a result, the dynamic developed in the discipline enabled the undergraduates to experience a movement in which theoretical and practical aspects of argumentative action were in a constant cyclical movement, where in many cases the practical was used to accomplish the theory and vice versa. These movements were identified as being of Reflection on action planning, reflection in action and reflection on action, and had a direct and cyclical relationship between theory related to argumentation and the undergraduate practice, which involved from planning activities related to the argument to its implementation. Such movements enabled the mobilization and development of Knowledge for Teaching Argumentation that provided a basis for undergraduate to develop and analyze activity of argumentative nature. As a result we assume that the initial training can and should be an opportunity for undergraduates to develop skills that will enable the development of argumentative environments in their classes and to experience, reflect and create a habit of sharing experiences with their peers in respect to argumentative actions. We conclude as such that embedding of content of argumentation in the initial training program of science teachers, so that future teachers may have tools and knowledge to argue in their teaching practice.

The present research which is entitled Professional choice: a question of identity discuss the Professional choice of Major in Biological Science students at UNESP - at Bauru campus. The desires relating to the course taken by these students, as well as which identity they demonstrate to themselves were raised through semi-structured interviews. For that, qualitative research and identity theoretical research were used and Peirce's theoretical Semiotics reference was also used in the analysis of the collected data. These analyses showed that there is a necessity of an evaluation in the restructure of the curricular content of the course in question. There is also a necessity of creating discussion space, in which university students can analyze in a critical way their conceptions concerning the course, mainly the ones related to teacher's performance

Martínez, Jeanette 10 April 2018 (has links)
How to integrate new technologies into initial education?Currently, the relationship computer-children is a debate that generates still little agreement, because it is a new subject with to much to learn. This essay seeks to contribute to its thematic analysis, exposing a series of ideas and practical insights for achieving appropriate integration of new technologies at the initial level, which is a process without return. It is therefore necessary that the teachers manage key criteria to make the pedagogical decisions of the case in the exercise of its training role with the «digital natives», their students, forming the skills needed to act effectively in the new information and knowledge society. It will also be necessary as «immigrants from the virtual environment», that the teacher arise the need for training in the field of computer science to understand this new language in relation to the world of today.

Abstract: This work deals with the topic of Teacher mediation in the reading process of students in a Pedagogy course in the context of the discipline of Theoretical and Methodological Foundations of the Portuguese language. It?s been assumed as a theoretical perspective, discursive enunciation of Bakhtin, to understand that this approach enables the understanding of verbal interaction introduced by reading in its concrete conditions of production. Methodologically, it?s been worked on the analysis of dialogues produced in the classroom from reading and reading situations, seeking in this material, indicators of sense on the living process. For this purpose, it?s been taken as documents the reading process lived, all planning activity and selection of the teacher, both oral and written production of students during the course, whose main theme was the concept of literacy. The data produced by the survey highlight the intersubjective dimension of both the reading process experienced by students and the teacher in relation to her role as mediator in this process. There is the argument that learning to collate texts facilitates the formation of an autonomous reader, which is constructed by mediation, changing the subject throughout the sharing of experiences in cultural practices in which they operate, whether the practice of reading or of teaching. / Doutorado / Ensino, Avaliação e Formação de Professores / Doutor em Educação

Pedagogical discourses and subjectivities in primary mathematics initial teacher education

Alderton, Julie January 2013 (has links)
This thesis examines students’ experiences of learning to teach mathematics as they complete a primary Postgraduate Certificate in Education to gain qualified teacher status. The research data are drawn from students’ accounts of learning to teach mathematics, which include email communications during their studies and interviews with eight students at the end of the course. Analysis is informed by post-structuralist feminist understandings of discourse, power and knowledge. These tools are used to explore the complexities of learning to teach, the ways in which beginning teachers are ‘produced’, what counts as mathematics and the effects of power relations within pedagogical encounters. I use a reflexive approach to methodology, acknowledging the ways in which my own subjectivity permeates the enquiry, and the ways in which power permeates the research process. The study found performances of gender in students’ accounts of their experiences of the course, both on campus and in schools. Dominant discourses of teaching and mathematics create tensions for students and act as a form of control and categorisation as they strive to be recognised as legitimate mathematics teachers. It is argued that students’ subjectivities are shaped by discursive practices and peer and pedagogical relationships in the context of the course and that students are constituted as mathematical subjects often in inequitable ways. They are both powerful and powerless in different instances as they take up competing discourses, positioning themselves and their peers in shifting locations. Some students are silenced, categorised and marginalised within discourses of mathematics. Most report complying with the established practices of the school and class teacher and focused on the struggle to achieve legitimacy as successful student teachers. They 2 demonstrate both compliance with and resistance to dominant discourses as they are caught between the tensions and inconsistencies of competing and conflicting discourses. A key implication of this study is that teachers, teacher educators and student teachers need opportunities to explore their own gendered subjectivities as learners and teachers and to acknowledge that learning to teach mathematics is not solely a cognitive endeavour but one deeply located in social relations and contexts. Within teacher education more spaces need to be opened up to enable student teachers to embody themselves as mathematics subjects and primary teachers differently.
