The Duality of Innovation: Liberation and Economic CompetitivenessBobb, Kamau Imara 19 July 2005 (has links)
Economic competitiveness and liberation are treated as dual objectives of innovation in traditional industries in developing countries that have endured both slavery and colonization. In developing nations that slave and colonial histories, the objective of innovation may be more than the assumed one, economic competitiveness; it may be liberation as well. The objective of innovation may be to wrest domestic control over national resources from international agencies and multinational corporations. This dissertation explores this idea with case studies of the sugar industry in Barbados and Guyana. Evidence from semi-structured interviews in both locations is used to determine whether liberation is indeed an objective of the innovation process and if so, whether it is complementary or contradictory to the standard relationship between innovation and economic competitiveness. The results suggest that the concept of liberation is not only present in large philosophical discussions of national strategy, but also in the practical "bench-level" discussions about technical options for the Caribbean sugar regime. The connection of sugar to the slave and colonial past introduces notions of powerlessness and resentment into innovation discussions that customarily revolve exclusively around research agendas, technological options and their economic costs and benefits. Consideration of this dimension is a necessary addition to the National Innovation Systems framework when it is being applied to the developing world.

Abstract
The key of blooming Companies is INNOVATION ,therefore, a number of signs (namely aptotic service, product and marketing strategy)will be the decay of concerns.
Generally speaking, the main method used in my research is by searching the scientific or technical literature and the minor information is form the interview, field trip. The typical example the I am going to mention is the advantage of Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor Inc(as known as KKL) in the their marketing strategy by collecting the documents and to analyze the detail as I got, and then, to attest the result which I suggest this company how to improve and solve the problem they are facing.
According to the literature, My thesis will provide the contents of the value form innovation strategy and structure of concerns, which developed in three significant points(value chain, primary activities and support activities, respectively).
Further and even more importantly, though, there are over a half of concerns get more than 25% turnover form the products and services that developed recent 3 years ,not only for local companies but also the global ones . The main reason to give them the greatly competitiveness is from the innovation ideas. Furthermore, most companies have to innovate themselves to address the market. According the research of Boston Consulting Group, approximately 90% chairmen must promote their work team by innovation .In the meanwhile, the report mentions that the other 4 points of results below:
1. The team could not achieve the goal in the period.
2. The ratio of success was too law.
3. The allocation of resource was not enough.
4. The cooperation of each department was not enough.
In stark contrast, is Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor Inc able to keep a steady grow and be the leader of this market, The topic will be the challenge for them.

By former researchs, the higher degree of innovation dosen¡¦t guarantee the huger of profit. Therefore, knowing the decision procerss of new product innovation is realy important and worthful.
In this article, we divide new products into two groups with different innovation degree: the minor innovation product (incremental innovation product) and the major innovation product (radical innovation product). By using real options analysis method, we build a evaluation model to estimate the new product value during the procerss of new product innovation. We also go into what factors will influence the corporations¡¦ decision. Furthermore, we do the sensitivity analysis with numerical method and to realize corporations¡¦ preference and tendency in product innovation decision. The developing strategies of biotechs in TaiwanCho, Chin-Yu 02 July 2003 (has links)
The last two decades, Taiwan government has been putting the Biotechs as one of the nation's main goals of industry developement. In the unique circumstance of Taiwan's industry, the competence and developing strategies of biotechs are the main subjects of this research.
The goal of this research is based on examining the nation's creativity, the diamond-system of biotechs, and the selection of Industrial Cluster, etc; and tries to make some suggestions for the Taiwan's biotechs and its developement.
As for creativity, the creativity-index applied by this study shows : Taiwan's nation's creativity is still keeping its relative superiority in the world. Although in speaking of the external circumstances, the diamond-system constructons, there's still lots of space for progressing; but in the long-terms Taiwan's biotech is still promissing if the government and the industries can successfully combine the superiority of their creativity and the industrial constructions.
The results of this research shows : for biotechs development, Taiwan government and industries have to strongly base on the creativity, and to apply developing environment factor of diamond-system to maintain and promote their competing superiority. The success of the Hsinchu Science Park, a good example and substantial model of Industrial Clusetr, can also provides strategies and answers in this field.
The scholars, by their understandings of marketing and technology, can both answer the need of the internationally competing biotechs skills and set the goals of its development; and the governmemt has to coordinate, to combine, to harmonize, to joinize the industries and the scholars; and the industries can benifit from this process. 'Taiwan biotechs, the best of the best of the best' will be the main goals and the main policies of Taiwan's techs developements
