Coloured light

Dracoulis, Wendy Fay, wdracoulis@gmail.com January 2007 (has links)
This project involves the examination of abstract, geometric paintings, kinetic sculptures, electronic art and installations that use opticality, perspectival space and colour relationships that destabilise compositional cohesion. Works made between 1964 and 1980, particularly those by Victor Vasarely and Bridget Riley are referenced in the determination of how geometric forms, colour transitions, interactions and juxtapositions have been used to suggest movement. This enquiry includes a review of the usage of planar space and the creation of optical effects. Artworks such as Bridget Riley's Chant 2, (1967) inform new works in which available digital technological processes are utilised. These new works consist mainly of compositions of line and coloured forms and are created in response to the outcomes of the research into the selected works. For example, static works that create movement through the use of colour and geometric form inform the creation of new w ork in media that uses motion. The artworks produced are installation-based works. The works include digital projections and static images that use painting processes as well as digital media. The objective of the project is to produce artworks that reference painting processes and extend explorations into colour usage designed to maximise optical effects and spatial disorientation. The artworks are intended to reflect elements researched whilst maximising the potential for using new media.

Minskning av färskvatten- oljeförbrukning vid Zetterströms Rostfria AB Molkom

Olsson, Jens, Johansson, Andreas January 2006 (has links)

/
Abstract The company Zetterströms Rostfria AB in Molkom producing heat exchangers for different purposes. In the production Zetterströms are using a seam welding machine that demands cooling water. The quantity of cooling water the company consumes is 2016m3/year. The seam welding machine works on different effects depending on the thickness of the sheet metal. Thicker sheet metal demands higher power than a thinner sheet metal. This study handles values from two different effects that the welding machine is working with. Zetterströms wants to reduce the quantity of cooling water and reuse the energy the cooling water receives in the welding machine. The purpose of this study is to survey how to reduce the quantity of cooling water used and how to integrate the energy in the cooling water to the buildings heating system. The objective of the study is to find a solution that takes care of the energy in the cooling water and reduce the quantity of cooling water. The method endures to analyze Zetterströms heating system to find the heating systems operating temperatures. Several measurements on the cooling water temperatures and water flows were made. The results from the measurements showed that the welding machine transferred two different effects to the cooling water. The welding machine transferred 40,1 respective 15,6kW to the cooling water. This study handles these two effects. When this two effects are known, two suggestions where hammered out. One suggestion reduces the cooling water flow to recommended level and a fan coil is installed to warm the industrial premises. The second suggestion is a close system with a heat pump. The heat pump cools the water so it can be reused as cooling water again. The recommended temperature of the cooling water is 14-15ºC. The energy from the cooling water is pumped to 60ºC with the help from a heat pump. The warm water from the heat pump emits in fan coils like the first suggestion. The fresh water consuming will be reduced to minimal level with the second suggestion. The saving for the first suggestion will be 12400kr/year and for the second suggestion 41600kr/year.

You Define Me.

Klein, Nicole A 10 May 2013 (has links)
The work I created in conjunction with this paper is a representation of myself and my family, both individually and as a unit. The work was spawned by a search for my identity at my current age of 25. The outcome is an installation of photographs that focus on my heritage and family work ethic and a series of altar-like tables highlighting the personalities of my grandmother, grandfather, mother, father, and sister when they were experiencing life at my stage. I believe that this work culminates in defining me. Every element, every individual, reflects a part of myself in the people I love. The following paper explores the elements that come into play in the creation of this work.

Development and optimization of new generation start-up instrumentation systems (SUI) for domestic CANDU reactors

Nasimi, Elnara 01 December 2010 (has links)
Due to the age and operating experience of Bruce Power units, equipment ageing and obsolescence has become one of the main challenges that need to be resolved for all systems, structures and components in order to ensure a safe and reliable production of energy. The research objectives of this thesis will focus on methodology for modernization of Start- Up Instrumentation (SUI), both in-core and Control Room equipment, using a new generation of detectors and cables in order to manage obsolescence. The main objective of this thesis is to develop a new systematic approach to SUI installation/replacement procedure development and optimization. Although some additional features, such as real-time data monitoring and storage/archiving solutions for SUI systems are also examined to take full advantage of today’s digital technology, the objective of this thesis does not include detailed parametrical studies of detector or system performance. Instead, a number of technological, operational and maintenance issues associated with Start-Up Instrumentation systems at Bruce Power will be identified in this project and a structured approach to developing a replacement/installation procedure that can be standardized and used across all of the domestic CANDU stations is proposed. Finally, benefits of Hierarchical Control Chart (HCC) methodology for all stages of plant life management, such as system design, development, operation and maintenance are demonstrated. Keywords: Task Breakdown and Analysis methodology, installation/removal procedure development and optimization, risk-based analysis and optimization, Hierarchical Control Chart (HCC) methodology for system maintenance and troubleshooting, Start-Up Instrumentation (SUI), Ion Chambers, Fission Chambers, proportional counters, Shutdown System 1 (SDS1), Shutdown System 2 (SDS2). / UOIT

Aircraft engine performance and integration in a flying wing aircraft conceptual design

Miao, Zhisong. 01 1900 (has links)
The increasing demand of more economical and environmentally friendly aero engines leads to the proposal of a new concept – geared turbofan. In this thesis, the characteristics of this kind of engine and relevant considerations of integration on a flying wing aircraft were studied. The studies can be divided into four levels: GTF-11 engine modelling and performance simulation; aircraft performance calculation; nacelle design and aerodynamic performance evaluation; preliminary engine installation. Firstly, a geared concept engine model was constructed using TURBOMATCH software. Based on parametric analysis and SFC target, the main cycle parameters were selected. Then, the maximum take-off thrust was verified and corrected from 195.56kN to 212kN to meet the requirements of take-off field length and second segment climb. Besides, the engine performance at offdesign points was simulated for aircraft performance calculation. Secondly, an aircraft performance model was developed and the performance of FW-11 was calculated on the basis of GTF-11 simulation results. Then, the effect of GTF-11 characteristics performance on aircraft performance was evaluated. A comparison between GTF-11 and conventional turbofan, RB211- 524B4, indicated that the aircraft can achieve a 13.1% improvement in fuel efficiency by using the new concept engine. Thirdly, a nacelle was designed for GTF-11 based on NACA 1-series and empirical methods while the nacelle dimensions of conventional turbofan RB211-525B4 were obtained by measure approach. Then, the installation thrust losses caused by nacelle drags of the two engines were evaluated using ESDU 81024a. The results showed that the nacelle drags account for about 4.08% and 3.09% of net thrust for GTF-11 and RB211-525B4, respectively. Finally, the considerations of engine installation on a flying wing aircraft were discussed and a preliminary disposition of GTF-11 on FW-11 was presented.

Four Corners Gateway

Martinello, Linda Clementina 01 June 2012 (has links)
Though an installation, the exhibition Four Corners Gateway, examines how history and memory construct us as individuals and construct our national and personal identities and worldviews. All such constructions are ultimately fragmented and fictional. This body of work points at how ideologically formed, subjective narratives are made into ‘truths’. Connecting the personal with the public is my way of playing with history and its paradoxes. The resulting landscapes that I construct can be read as archives of fragments.
