Fuel Supply Investigation for an Externally Fired Microturbine based Micro CHP System : Case study on a selected site in Bishoftu, Ethiopia

Aga, Aboma Emiru January 2013 (has links)
Sudden change on earth’s climate, which is a result of an increase in CO2 in the atmosphere, is mainlycaused by burning of fossil fuels for various energy services. However, for the energy services to befavourable to the environment, there should be a balance with the environmental protection, and we cancall that “Sustainable Innovative Development”. “EXPLORE Polygeneration” initiative will serve as an important tool to promote the application ofrenewable technologies extending to the future sustainable energy engineering field. This paper is intendedin investigating a suitable fuel supply for the microturbine based micro CHP system available at theDivision of Heat and Power Technology, KTH, Sweden; for a site called “Alema Farm PLC”, Bishoftu,Ethiopia. Though there is a large biomass energy resource and a huge potential to produce hydroelectric power inEthiopia, the modern energy sector is very small and the energy system is mainly characterized by biomassfuel supplies and household energy consumption. The nation’s limited biomass energy resource is believedto have been depleting at an increasingly faster rate. Of the many and surplus amount of renewable energy resources available in and around Alema FarmPLC, poultry litter and pig’s manure are selected to be the two main energy sources for the CHP systemavailable in the lab, after passing through different conversion techniques. However, after consideringsome basic properties like: Energy content and Bulk Density of the fuel, Moisture content , Ashcharacteristic, Tar content, Fuel logistics, Local storage, Fuel feeder system, and Magnitude of GHGReduction; poultry litter is found to be the most convenient to produce a syngas with a Downdraftatmospheric gasifier available in the HPT lab. Finally, For the problems caused by the nature of the poultry litter by itself and the methods used in theconversion process, the 40 TRIZ principles of TRIZ inventive principles is used and some major pointsare recommended.

Metodika vyšetřování sexuálních trestných činů (vybrané problémy) / Methodology for Investigating Sex Crimes (selected issues)

Somogyiová, Jana January 2021 (has links)
Methodology for Investigating Sex Crimes (selected issues) Abstract This thesis deals with the methodology for sex crimes investigation, specifically rape. The goal of the thesis is to describe the specifics of the rape investigation methodology, evaluate current legislation and, where appropriate, propose recommendations to improve the situation. The theme is very topical nowadays, as there is a lot of attention paid to rape by our society. However, the myths surrounding rape continue to affect the attitude to the victims and remain a problem. In order to present a more comprehensive view on rape, this thesis is divided into five chapters that examine the issue not only in terms of investigation methodology, but also in other related fields such as criminal law and criminology. The vast majority of the thesis is theoretical and is based primarily on an analysis of Czech and foreign literary sources and legislation, however it is also partly supported by examples from practice for better understanding. The final part of the work is empirical research, based on analysis of judicial and police files. Research has been conducted on 84 rape cases reported in the South Bohemian Region of Czechia in the past 12 years. The research covered 3 hypotheses that were more or less confirmed. The first hypothesis...

An Investigation of Certain Linkage Relationships in Barley

Tehrani, Parichehr Ahmadian 01 May 1966 (has links)
Barley is one of the world's most important food and feed crops. It is adapted to a wide range of environments. According to Harlan and Martini (1936) barley is grown from north of the Artic Circle to the sands of the Sahara, and from the slopes of Mt. Everest to the lower delta of the Nile. Considerable progress has been made in its improvement through plant breeding. Barley is one of the best cultivated crop plants for use in genetic studies. It is a diploid plant from the family Gramineae with seven pairs of chromosomes. The cultivated species are interfertile and have a large number of readily distinguishable genetic characters. Approximately 370 characters are recognized (Nilan, 1964). Many of Barley's genes have been mapped and assigned to one of the seven chromosomes. Linkage groups in barley have been designated in a number of ways. A Roman numeral was used extensively in the earlier studies to identify each linkage group. More recently an Arabic number system has been used. This system was adopted by the Fourth Annual Barley Research Worker's Conference and will be followed in this study. The study involves 24 contrasting factors and was undertaken to determine the location of certain genes already reported in specific linkage groups and, if possible, to assign several previously unassigned genes to linkage groups. Of the 24 factor pairs studied, six have not yet been assigned to a chromosome. The inheritance and linkage associations of these unassigned genes receive major emphasis in this study.

An Investigation into the Effects of Humor and Laughter on Depressive Symptomology

Goodson, Jason Talley 01 May 2001 (has links)
The current study was designed to test the theory that daily exposure to humorous material would reduce depressive symptoms. Thirty-eight undergraduate students endorsing depressive symptoms were randomly assigned to either a humor or comparison group. Dependent variables were scores on the Beck Depression Inventory, the Social Activities Scale from the Interpersonal Events Schedule, and the Positive and Negative Daily Affect Schedule. The humor group intervention consisted of take-home videotaped recordings of humorous materials. The comparison group intervention consisted of take-home video taped recordings of educational materials with motivational themes. Results indicated that subjects in both groups exhibited significant reductions in depressive symptoms. However, subjects in the humor group showed significant increases in social activities and daily affectual gains, while the comparison group subjects showed no such changes. Plausible reasons for the current findings as well as implications are discussed.

An Investigation of the Mode of Action of 2-chloro-N-Isopropylacetanilide

Dhillon, Nirmal S. 01 May 1970 (has links)
Corn (Zea mays L.) seedlings possessed a high degree of tolerance to growth inhibitory effects of pre-emergent application of 2-chloro-N-isopropylacetanilide (propachlor), squash (Cucurbita maxima Duchesne) was intermediate in its response to the herbicide followed by oats (Avena sativa L.), lambsquarters (Chenopodium album L.) and redroot (Amaranthus retroflexus L.). Root growth was more severely retarded by lower concentrations of propachlor than was stem development. Propachlor inhibited cell division in onion (Allium cepa L.) root tips. Aberrations in the mitotic behavior, such as contraction of chromosomes, was also induced. Cell elongation, in particular auxin induced cell elongation of oat coleoptile , was inhibited in direct proportion to propachlor concentration. Concomitant with the inhibition of squash seedling growth and development, propachlor prevented the normal senescence of squash cotyledons. Cell wall expansion and breakdown and the utilization of proteinaceous and lipid reserves in the cotyledons were inhibited by propachlor treatment. Amino acid activation, both in vivo as well as in vitro, was significantly reduced in squash whereas in corn, amino acid activation was inhibited only in vitro. This inhibition of amino acid activation is postulated to be the primary mechanism of propachlor's herbictdal action. This inhibition would prevent the formation of proteinaceous compounds including (1) the enzyme complexes which would break down storage material , and (2) alter cell walls to allow cell elongation.

An Investigation of the Interaction of Beliefs and Behaviors in the Classroom

Talbot, JenneLyn 01 May 2014 (has links)
This project emerged from previous research on beliefs, influences on behaviors, and beliefs interaction with reform. Previous research stated connections existed between teacher beliefs and teacher behaviors but criticized the use of broad, general constructs and traditional methodologies. This study challenged the portrayal of beliefs as isolated and static and attempted to understand connections between beliefs and behaviors. Utilizing qualitative methodologies, this study investigated the following research questions. 1. What insight can be gained on the nature of beliefs through analysis of consistent and inconsistent behaviors? 2. How do teacher’s beliefs interact with behaviors? This research adopted a methodology that connected interviews and instructional episodes as the informative data. The power of the examination of beliefs focused on (a) the teacher’s beliefs, (b) actual practices, and (c) the connections between beliefs and observed behaviors. A more accurate collection of beliefs provided an understanding on how these beliefs actualized in practice. This allowed for an in-depth analysis of the interaction of beliefs and behaviors that provided more explanatory power of the relationship, often lacking in other studies. Specifically, findings demonstrated that the beliefs emerge from previous experience, interact with each other, and influence the behaviors of the teacher

An Investigation of Banding in Steel by Simulation

von Destinon-Forstmann, Julius 05 1900 (has links)
This thesis describes a study of the fundamental aspects of banding in steel. The banded structure is simulated by means of layer diffusion couples. Consideration is given to the amount of carbon pre-segregation that occurs in the austenitic state due to activity differences arising from a non-uniform distribution of alloying elements as well as to the segregation which occurs during subsequent transformation. A new method for the experimental determination of the off-diagonal diffusion coefficients which control the pre-segregation in ternary systems is described. Different cooling rates are used to investigate the contribution of transformation segregation toward the final structure. The effect of cooling rates on the final structure is investigated metallographically. / Thesis / Master of Science (MS)
