Literary and theological analysis of this sense of perícope demonstrates very patriarchal reports. The goal of this dissertation is to do this analysis, especially demonstrating his "literary movement" or, as it is appropriate to say, his "literary beauty". This research takes the theological and ethi-cal considerations that relates with the other patriarchal traditions of Genesis. It is the study of Genesis 18.1 15 for his literary position in all the patriarchal ac-counts and especially with regard to Abraham. It is in half his life narrated in the text. Until that time, exposed in the text, he just waited for the fulfillment of promises, but nothing actu-ally happened. The end of life approaches with the accumulation of years. When least expec-ted the old promises, behold, the Lord, your God, appears and all is happening. The text is a moment of great expressiveness and narrative raises ethical perspective, using a sign lan-guage. The fundamental hypothesis is the centrality of literary text and its gestural expressi-veness that value the character Abraham, the other cited characters and their actions. The fundamental methodological theoretical aspect was used to read the text careful-ly, synchronous to its movement, always from the grammatical forms and guessing what the fundamental hypothesis suggested its expressiveness. She was always outstanding. The literary analysis of this short text leads to all the patriarchal narratives, especially Abraham cycle as part of the written traditions of Israel identity founders. The gestures of the same characters, often not valued in a theological analysis, are the expression of the beauty of this text. The three mysterious figures visiting the elderly Patriarch leave the divine mark of fulfilment of promises and assurance of joy that the birth of Isaac symbolizes / O texto de Gênesis 18,1 15 é importante dentro do ciclo de Abraão.

Scientific Authority and Jewish Law in Early Modern Italy

Glasberg Gail, Debra January 2016 (has links)
This dissertation examines the interactions between early modern science and traditional Jewish legal scholarship through the life and work of Italian rabbi and physician Isaac Lampronti (1679-1756). Lampronti produced both the first alphabetically organized encyclopedia (the Paḥad Yiẓḥak) and the first periodical (the Bikurei kaẓir) of rabbinic law, which refashioned the traditional rabbinic system according to scientific methodologies and emerging Enlightenment ideas. Unwilling to relinquish the authorities of either science or traditional Jewish law, Lampronti creatively mediated the tensions between the two. The dissertation shows that the intellectual movements of the period not only catalyzed innovation within the realm of religious belief, they transformed religious practice and study as well.

Jewish Religion on Trial : Understanding Isaac Babel’s Short Story "Karl-Yankel"

Rep, Marco January 2018 (has links)
The subject of this thesis is the short story "Карл-Янкель" ("Karl-Yankel") by Russian-Jewish writer Isaac Babel (1894‒1940), published in 1931. The story depicts a trial following the cir-cumcision of a boy against his parents’ will, and thus directly addresses issues of high relevance at the time, namely the transformations of religious life in the early years of the Soviet Union. Firstly, I have analyzed the references to Jewish culture that appear in the story. Further on, drawing on research by other scholars, I have examined the shift of the traditional Jew into a Soviet Jew—a highly secular subject deeply involved in the socialist society and far removed from the traditions of the Pale of Settlement. Lastly, I have studied the narrator’s perspective, which, being far from objective, plays a major role in portraying the trial and is of key im-portance for understanding the transformation of Jewish life that occurred in the Soviet Union in the 1930s. At the end of the story, the narrator deprives the reader of the verdict and gives in-stead his attention to the circumcised boy. I argue that he thus focused on the future rather than on the conflict between tradition and secularism.

Origin and Architecture of Deep-water Levee Deposits: Insight from the Ancient Rock Record and Experiments

Khan, Zishann 22 December 2011 (has links)
Although levee deposits make up a significant part of modern and ancient deep-marine slope systems, details of their internal lithological composition and stratal architecture remain poorly documented. At the Castle Creek study area, strata of the Neoproterozoic Isaac Formation (Windermere Supergroup) crop out superbly in a kilometre-scale section through a sinuous deep-water channel-levee system (ICC3). Levee deposits near the outer bend of the channel consist of sandstone-rich (sandstone-to-mudstone ratio of 68:42), medium- to thick-bedded turbidites interstratified with thinly-bedded turbidites. Structureless sandstone (Ta), planar laminated sandstone (Tb), non-climbing ripple cross-stratified sandstone (Tc) and massive and laminated siltstone (Td) are common. Thick beds generally thicken and then thin and fine laterally over about 300 m. Thin-bedded strata, in contrast, thin and fine negligibly over similar distances. In the distal part of the outer-bend levee (up to 700 m laterally away from the channel) strata consist predominantly of thin-bedded Tcd turbidites with a much lower sandstone-to-mudstone ratio (35:65). On the opposite side of the channel, inner-bend levee deposits are mudstone-rich, locally as low as 15:85, and consist mostly of thin-bedded, Tcd turbidites, although thicker-bedded, Ta-d turbidites are more common in the lower part of the section. Lateral thinning and fining of beds is more rapid than their outer-bend counterpart. Levee deposits of ICC3 comprise three stacked decametre-scale upward-thinning and -fining successions. Each is interpreted to record a depositional history consisting of lateral channel migration, levee deposition, channel filling, and distal levee deposition. During the early stage of increasing levee relief it is proposed that the termini of individual beds progressively backstep towards the channel margin resulting in an overall lateral thinning of the stratal profile. This interpretation notably contrasts the common assumption that levee morphology is the result of the vertical stacking of beds that dip. In addition to field studies, laboratory experiments were conducted to determine the depositional threshold of non-climbing ripple cross-stratification, which is common in levee strata of ICC3. It was determined that non-climbing ripples form when bed aggradation rates are less than 0.015 cm/sec, and most probably in flows made up of poorly sorted sediment.

Després, Élaine January 2007 (has links) (PDF)
