Elektronické knihy na VŠE / Electronic books at VŠE

Saska, Filip January 2012 (has links)
The master dissertation Electronic books at VSE is focused on analysing the opportunities of e-books in the environment of VSE. The aim is to describe the current state of different study materials used at VSE and to explore different ways of improving them using e-book technology. The dissertation briefly describes various attributes of e-books with stress on the relevant attributes -- the possibility of inserting notes, bookmarks, multimedia and interactive content. Also the possibility of editing the content and sharing resulting changes with other students is a key attribute. The dissertation then moves on to describe the different kinds of study materials that are in use at VSE. The second half of the dissertation builds on previous analysis of the study materials and introduces a hypothetical optimal state, which could result from implementing e-book technology. This state is the answers the question of what is actually possible to achieve. The next chapter in this half is the technical analysis, which answers the question of how is it possible to achieve the suggested hypothetical state. The conclusion of this dissertation answers the questions whether the proposed solution is a viable candidate for implementation. The results of this dissertation could be used as a guideline for the project of implementation of e-book technology in the environment of VSE.

Geopolitika Iráckého Kurdistánu: analýza role vnitřních a vnějších aktérů kurdské otázky v Iráku / Geopolitics of Iraqi Kurdistan: A Role of External and Internal Actors in Kurdish Issue

Sommer, Filip January 2021 (has links)
This thesis represents a comprehensive analysis of the geographical and geopolitical position of the Kurdistan regional government (KRG) as an official political institution of the Kurdistan region of Iraq (KRI). Firstly, it focuses on the internal issues of this institution and its division between two main Iraqi Kurdish political parties: KDP and PUK. Secondly, it examines the form of the relationships between the KRG and central government in Baghdad. The regional position of the KRG is explained by capturing the relationships among the KRG, the governments of the key regional countries (Turkey, Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Israel) and important Kurdish political parties operating in this area (PKK, PYD, PJAK, HDP, ENKS and KDPI). Thirdly, the global actors (United States of America, Russian Federation and China) and their position towards the Iraqi Kurds, is also included. And finally, this thesis deals with the problematics of the Kurdish referendum of independence in 2017 and the role of ISIS as an "game changing" actor in the regional dynamics. This thesis builds on extensive search of scientific literature (about 70 titles), field research in the Kurdistan region of Iraq in the form of the interviews with 20 respondents and media reports on this topic and region. WAR AND FAITH - COPING STRATEGIES AMONG CHRISTIANS SURVIVING ISIS IN NORTHERN IRAQ

Eriksson, Beatrice January 2019 (has links)
During the last decades, the Christian population of Iraq is estimated to have decreased from about 1.5 million people to about 120,000. The historical examples of religious persecution are plenty, and in the last few years, the world again witnessed brutal violence against religious minorities, this time committed by the so-called Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). By examining the narrative of the survivors of the persecution and violence, insight can be gained into what becomes meaningful for a person in the darkest situation of violence and threats, and how the available resources can be useful to cope with the situation in a way that makes sense of evil. Through an ethnographic approach, the inner lives of eight Christians from northern Iraq are explored in this thesis. Their personal stories demonstrate how a sense of coherence can be reached through being part of something greater than oneself; activism, nationalism, and most of all; religious faith, practice, and identity.

A Content Analysis of Jihadist Magazines: Theoretical Perspectives

Udani, Catalina M 01 January 2018 (has links)
During its violent spread across the Middle East, the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (ISIS) amassed both a local and international following in large part due to its usage of emergent media distribution. Beginning in 2014, ISIS’s Ministry of Media published an English-language magazine, Dabiq, disseminating its issues through online platforms. Dabiq and its successor Rumiyah both serve as propagandistic recruitment material for ISIS’s international community as well as broadcasting the message of the jihadist movement to ISIS’s enemies. This study analyzed ISIS’s publications using a qualitative content analysis in order to identify jihadist recruitment strategies through the perspectives of agenda-setting theory, the diffusion of innovations, symbolic convergence theory, and speech codes theory. These communication theories characterize the roles that civilizational conflict, population demographics, narrative themes, and emergent media play in the diffusion of the jihadist movement. This study samples the textual content and imagery of issues of Dabiq and Rumiyah, using thematic analysis to procedurally code the data by recognizing shared characteristics and concepts. The fundamental goal of this study is to gain a greater understanding of the way ISIS, its members, and the jihadist movement communicate their intentions, with the hope of preventing further recruitment and radicalization. The two following research questions drive this study: (1) What themes are present in the ISIS publications of Dabiq and Rumiyah? (2) How do the themes of these publications vary over time?

Perceptions of the serpent in the Ancient Near East : its Bronze Age role in apotropaic magic, healing and protection

Golding, Wendy Rebecca Jennifer 11 1900 (has links)
In this dissertation I examine the role played by the ancient Near Eastern serpent in apotropaic and prophylactic magic. Within this realm the serpent appears in roles in healing and protection where magic is often employed. The possibility of positive and negative roles is investigated. The study is confined to the Bronze Age in ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia and Syria-Palestine. The serpents, serpent deities and deities with ophidian aspects and associations are described. By examining these serpents and deities and their roles it is possible to incorporate a comparative element into his study on an intra- and inter-regional basis. In order to accumulate information for this study I have utilised textual and pictorial evidence, as well as artefacts (such as jewellery, pottery and other amulets) bearing serpent motifs. / Old Testament & Ancient Near Eastern Studies / M.A. (Ancient Near Eastern Studies)
