Implementering av miljöledningssystem och textilproduktion med miljö i focus / Implementation of environmental managment system and textile production with focus on environmental aspects

EKHOLM, FANNY, LINDEROTH, HANNA January 2010 (has links)
It is time to be environmentally conscious. For many companies today, it is important to have effective environmental work. As future textile engineers, we have learned the importance of working with the environment and environmental issues in all parts of the textile value chain. This work focuses on the environment in terms of environmental management, textile products and production to create a more ecologically sustainable future. To implement a proper management system, we realized the importance of a company to structure their approach. This is done by allocating responsibility, authority and resources. Structure leads to more efficient work by which all employees have the same vision andworking towards the same goals. The work presents the identification of a company's environmental impact which their significant environmental aspects is emphasized. Environmental and other improvement measures have been developed with suggestions on how the company can work to reducetheir environmental impact in the future. The thesis is written as part of a bachelor degree in textile technology on behalf of the company Vinga of Sweden AB. The company is located in Borås, with production all around the world. Their product range consists of gifts in the form of functional products for thehome. Vinga of Swedens costumers are profile companies, which is the trade for them out to retail.Vinga of Sweden is going to be certified for the ISO standard for quality and environmental management during 2010. Part of the purpose of this study is to prepare the company for ISO certification for environmental management according to the standard 14001:2004.

Program: Textilingenjörsutbildningen

New-Institutionalism and how EMS is translated from the highest organisational levels down to its local implementations.

Sondered, Natasja January 2010 (has links)

This thesis is mainly directed towards readers with a basic background in Environmental or Quality Management Systems. More increasingly organisations and companies decide to work with Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and the ISO standard has ever been increasing in popularity. The advantages of the ISO standard are the flexibility it offers, the adaptability to a variety of organisations and processes.

Most literature on EMS focuses on communication but very few address the issues regarding implementation and translation of the EMS into something functional for the core activities of an organisation.

In this qualitative study the author focuses on studying the differences between organisational levels regarding working with and implementing EMS at their various levels. The theoretical frame for the study is that of new-institutionalism. Within this frame is gathered empirical data from interviews with representatives of eight larger companies or organisations, all with multiple organisational levels. Combined these interviews form a solid foundation for the study if intra- and interorganisational EMS-implementations.

The conclusion of this research indicates the participating companies translated and implemented the EMS by standardising already existing routines and methods into complementing the EMS.

Besides the Environmental Licensing, which includes the Preliminary License, Installation License and Operating License, and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), two management tools can assist the management of WWTPs in this way: the NBR ISO 14001:2004, for the implementation of an Environmental Management System (EMS), and NBR ISO 14004:2005, which recommends conducting an Initial Environmental Review before installing the system, although does not have tools that can be used for this purpose. Thus, the general objective of this work was to develop tools to aid in conducting this Review in WWTPs, having as object of study WWTP-Monjolinho - São Carlos-SP, which wastewater treatment consists of: preliminary treatment, biological treatment with UASB reactors, dissolved-air flotation - preceded by flocculation with metallic coagulants and polymers -, ultraviolet (UV) radiation disinfection and postaeration of treated wastewater by cascade aeration before its throwing to Monjolinho river. The research was performed in four stages. At first, it was performed theoretical background; in the second, the knowledge of the object of study; in the third, the tools of Initial Environmental Review were developed and applied to WWTP-Monjolinho; and in the fourth stage there was the presentation and discussion of the results, as well as the research finals considerations. Eight tools and also the results of their application to WWTP-Monjolinho were obtained. It is considered that, through the tools developed in this work, the WWTPs, as WWTP-Monjolinho, can guide themselves more appropriately in search of the EMS installation and improve their activities, in order to more adequately meets increasing aspirations from society for a better quality of life and environmental protection and conservation.
