It's Usable : En granskning av informationssystemet It's Learning utifrån ett användarvänligt perspektiv / It's Usable : A review of the information system It's Learning from a user-friendly perspectiveTrenkler, Silja, Carlsson, Ida January 2006 (has links)
It’s Learning is an information system used on the University of Karlstad, by primarily students who study on a distance. It is also used nowadays by courses held at the university. We have chosen to work with this information system to see in what way we can amend the usability through theoretical and empirical studies, and in what way the students requirements differ from the requirements derived from the theoretical standards and rules. To answer these questions we started by collecting information about what literature and reliable internet sources say is good usability. From these theoretical standards and rules we created criterion that we later on tested on It’s Learning. For example how to achieve good readability and how to make a link functional both visibly and navigation wise. Looking through It’s Learning we discovered some theoretical shortages. We used some of these shortages in the user test to see whether they were also shortages user wise. We analyzed the results by going through the theoretical standards and rules and by our own understanding of the subject. In the conclusion, for example, we show how It’s Learning can meliorate their search engine and also how well theoretical studies and user tests work together to improve usability.</p>

Kaimo gyventojų dvasinė kultūra ir jos raiškos bruožai / Spiritual culture of country people and attributes of it's expressionStadalnykienė, Rita 29 June 2009 (has links)
Modern – day spiritual life of village people seems like in a fog. The world becomes more and more modern overmuch and modifies spiritual worths and their meaning. Material and pragmatic things strike the roots and shades the spiritual life of village folk and the entire meaning of beeing. Even religion modifies its primary functions and it is not a shelter for tired human soul. The changes of modern society, which destroy the limits between cultures and making a new of it, changes human relationship with the world. At this time it is hard to save a basic of folk culture, and without it succession and growing of it is impossible. An interpretive study of percussion solos opus 21 & 24.1 by Nebojsa Jovan ZivkovicBeach, Gabriel Kyle 04 May 2013 (has links)
The Serbian-born, German university educated Nebojša Jovan Živković is a virtuoso percussionist and an acclaimed composer of a large body of innovative music. The concert percussion community has embraced several of these works and this document examines two solo pieces: “ULTIMATUM I for Solo Marimba,” Opus 24.1 (1990/91), and “Generally Spoken It Is Nothing But Rhythm for Percussion Solo,” Opus 21 (1994/95). The intention of this study is to be a practical performance guide to aid in making decisions that will inform expressive interpretation. Both works are examined in the context of the formal structure and how the motivic, thematic, and harmonic elements relate to the form. Performance aspects such as instrument selection, setup optimization, interpretation, utilization of expressive dynamics and articulations, dynamic balance, extended techniques, universal four-mallet techniques, practice strategies, and suggestions for preparation are included.
Overall, the challenges of “ULTIMATUM I” are many—technical, musical, physical, and emotional. The composer’s comments concerning Opus 24.1 focus on an energetic and expressive attitude. The energy is written into the music, but the performer must communicate this ultimative energy to the audience. Opus 24.1 has an angular texture, complex rhythms, fast tempos, and extremely loud dynamics. The aggressivo middle section contains many of the greatest challenges of the piece.
Inherent to any multi-percussion setup are technical challenges and these are compounded in “Generally Spoken“ due to the inclusion of the vibraphone. Opus 21 is an excellent addition to any percussion recital and a performance will captivate the audience—due in particular to the unique sonorities achieved between tuned almglocken, tuned toms, Chinese gongs, and vibraphone.
The music of Živković may have limited appeal to listeners unaccustomed to solo concert percussion. More scholarly research into Živković’s personal history, Balkan heritage, and compositional concepts may help widen audience appreciation. / Literature review -- Ultimatum I for solo marimba opus 24.1 (1994/95) -- Generally spoken, it is nothing but rhythm for percussion solo opus 21 (1990/91) / School of Music

Now is the envy of all of the dead: an introduction to Don Hertzfeldt, the animatorWei, Christopher 03 June 2019 (has links)
This thesis is a primer on the experimental independent animator Don Hertzfeldt, whose filmography—described by one critic as “a singular universe of stick figures in crisis”—has for more than two decades been engaging some of the larger questions of post-millennial existence, particularly with regard to consciousness, temporality, and death. First, I will briefly introduce who Hertzfeldt is as an auteur (where he comes from, where his primary interests lie, and what his impact has been); second, I will provide an overview of the historical context in which his oeuvre should be placed (i.e. the history of animation and of experimental cinema); third, I will closely analyze his work, examining questions of style and narrative, starting from his student films and continuing to his more recent films; and fourth, I will explore some of the philosophical implications of recurring Hertzfeldtian motifs and themes (particularly with regard to consciousness, temporality, and death) before concluding.

Learning Management System's Usability and Functionality. Experiences of It's Learning from a Student Perspective at Malmö UniversityMusalam, Dina, Cosic, Martina January 2015 (has links)
Abstract:Learning platforms have emerged to integrate information technology with the traditional learning. This provides a flexible way of learning for students who would not be dependent on time, place or other issues that would prevent their learning. The purpose of this thesis is to gain knowledge about It's Learning and its developing process. And to investigate if Malmö University's learning platform, It's Learning, meets students' demands on usability and functionality and that could result in a case derived to a proven theory in the field. The investigation focuses on the first and third year students' experiences in the use of It's Learning. To answer the purpose, two methods are used. An interview is used as a qualitative method to get all needed information about It's Learning. Further, a questionnaire is used as a quantitative method to study the usability and functionality of Malmö University's learning platform. This investigation is based on theoretical perspective Jacob Nielsen's usability heuristic and Marc. J Rosenberg's core functions and how much It's Learning followed them. The results that were conducted from the survey and the interviews shows that there is a difference between the two student groups and their experiences also whether It's Learning meets their demands for usability. One of the biggest differences is that first year students experience It's Learning as more difficult to manage and understand in comparison to third years students. However, both case groups showed that It's Learning followed to a certain degree, Nielsen's usability heuristic. However, the results that are conducted from the interviews shows that It's Learning follows most of Rosenberg's core functions of a learning management system.

The International Musical Philanthropy Genre: A Cadence for Global Community, a Chorus for Change, and a Refrain for African AidPassanisi, Lucia A. January 2011 (has links)
Thesis advisor: Bonnie Jefferson / In 1984, a group of famous British musicians came together to form the megagroup called Band Aid and released the holiday song “Do They Know It‟s Christmas?” to increase public awareness of the Ethiopian famine. A few months later, American musicians under the name United Support of Artists for Africa (U.S.A. for Africa) released the song “We Are the World” to raise money for these famine victims. Both songs were immensely popular and together created a new rhetorical form, the international musical philanthropy genre. Over twenty-five years after the release of these two songs, Sudanese recording artist Emmanuel Jal released his own song “We Want Peace” to raise public awareness for the Southern Sudanese vote for independence. This study examines the creation of the international musical philanthropy genre by analyzing and comparing the songs “Do They Know It‟s Christmas?” and “We Are the World”. This analysis also discusses the implications of the international musical philanthropy genre. After examining the effects of this new genre, this analysis then examines how the new song “We Want Peace” challenges and expands the international musical philanthropy genre. / Thesis (BA) — Boston College, 2011. / Submitted to: Boston College.
