Coliving: an emerging term without a common definition / Coliving: en växande term utan gemensam definition

The population of Earth is increasing vastly fast which has a great impact on all the large cities around the world. The society of today is facing new problems each day and the housing sector is one of them, due to the unbalanced situation of demand and supply. During the same time, the term of sharing economy has established its ground in people’s lives as they have realized the benefits of using instead of possessing when it comes to products and services. Sweden is one of all the markets with both this increasing housing problem and increasing trend of sharing economy. The old, but today rising housing form of shared accommodation has been identified by some entrepreneurs as a possible solution for this unbalanced situation. However, sharing accommodation, or rather coliving is an emerging term that has spread widely through the world’s housing market the last years and can be seen in many different configurations depending on its location and purpose. This study aims to establish an understanding of what coliving is in terms of different key aspects in today’s society in order to formulate a conceptual definition of the emerging term. This has been done by an inductive approach of a qualitative method based on an interview study and previous literature. The empirical findings indicate that coliving relates to five key dimensions, eight key themes and one key sub theme. These aspects need to be related and taken into account during the development process of a coliving project. The identified aspects and the formulated conceptual definition bridge the academic gap as they build up the foundation of what coliving is in today’s society. Hence, contributes with valuable information for the topics of sustainability, ethics and urban development. / I takt med att jordens befolkning ökar möter världens större städer allt mer utmaningar. Var dag ställs våra samhällen inför nya svårigheter där bostadsbranschen är en av de utsatta med anledning av dess obalanserade situation av utbud och efterfrågan. Samtidigt har det nya begreppet delningsekonomi börjat etablera sig i människans liv, där fördelarna med att använda istället för att äga har uppfattats allt mer. Sverige är en av alla marknader som idag är starkt påverkade av både ett ökat bostadsproblem och en ökad trend av delningsekonomi. Den gamla, men idag växande bostadsformen av delat boende har blivit identifierad av ett antal entreprenörer som en möjlig lösning till denna obalanserade situation. Delat boende, eller snarare coliving är en växande term som de senaste åren har spridits kraftigt över världens bostadsmarknad och beroende på plats och avsikt kan ses i ett antal olika konfigurationer. Studien syftar på att etablera en förståelse av vad coliving är i termer av nyckelfaktorer för dagens samhälle för att formulera en konceptuell definition. Detta har möjliggjorts genom ett induktivt tillvägagångssätt av en kvalitativ metod baserad på en studie av intervjuer och tidigare litteratur. Den empiriska studien indikerar på att coliving skildras genom fem nyckeldimensioner, åtta nyckelteman och ett nyckeldeltema som bör relateras och tas i beaktning för att erhålla ett framgångsrikt coliving-boende. De identifierade faktorerna och den formulerade konceptuella definitionen av coliving fyller det akademiska gap vi idag ser genom att de verkar som en grund för vad coliving är i dagens samhälle. Därigenom bidrar de med värdefull information inom områden som hållbarhet, etik och stadsutveckling.

The extent to which employers are implementing the Code of Good Practice on HIV/AIDS, as it relates to the Employment Equity and Labour Relations Acts

This research was conducted on the extent to which employers believe they are implementing the Code of Good Practice on Key Aspects of HIV/AIDS and Employment (hereafter referred to as the Code of Good Practice). The motivation for the study arose as a result of the seriousness and prevalence of HIV/ AIDS within the working population, as well as the lack of knowledge as to what employers are doing to address this issue within the world of work. An exploratory research design was used to evaluate the extent to which employers believe they are implementing to Code of Good Practice. A quantitative approach was used. A literature study examined the history of HIV/ AIDS, the definitions describing the pandemic and the social and legal aspects linked to the disease. For research purposes, a sample of twenty employers was purposefully chosen by the researcher. The questionnaire was completed by a representative of the aforementioned employers. The data was analysed and a comparison was drawn between the literature study and the empirical findings. Conclusions and recommendations for future research were formulated as a result of the study. The findings of the study included, among other, that all employers experience risks related to discrimination against people who are HIV positive. The study also found that the majority of the employers had no practical measures in place to prevent this kind of discrimination. The study was limited in focus to the Code of Good Practice and it is recommended that a bigger sample is needed to have a holistic view of the HIV/AIDS phenomena within the world of work in South Africa. / Dissertation (MSD (Social Work Management))--University of Pretoria, 2006. / Social Work and Criminology / unrestricted

Förbättras med trygghet : En studie om relationen mellan ständiga förbättringar och psykologisk trygghet

Utgångspunkten för studien var att undersöka om organisationer som arbetar med ständiga förbättringar också arbetar med att skapa och främja psykologisk trygghet för medarbetarna. Psykologisk trygghet innebär bland annat att medarbetarna känner sig trygga att komma med förslag på idéer som kan förbättra arbetssätt och bidra till organisationens utveckling. Forskning visar att organisationen går miste om utvecklingspotential om man inte tar tillvara på sina medarbetares idéer. Syftet med studien var att bidra med kunskap om hur organisationer som idag är erkänt ledande inom kvalitetsarbete ser på psykologisk trygghet kopplat till ständiga förbättringar.Tre organisationer valdes ut för studien, alla har under de senaste åren mottagit en utmärkelse för en hög kvalitet inom arbetet med ständiga förbättringar, Utmärkelsen Svensk Kvalitet. En person per organisation, med djup kunskap om organisationens förbättringsarbete och hur det bedrivs, valdes sedan ut. Nyckelaspekter i teorin kopplat till ständiga förbättringar samt psykologisk trygghet identifierades, nyckelaspekterna från teorin om psykologisk trygghet användes som underlag för skapandet av intervjufrågor. Kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer gjordes med de utvalda respondenterna.Analysen visade att de studerade organisationerna arbetade med att skapa psykologisk trygghet genom att framför allt främja delaktighet bland medarbetarna och uppmuntra dem att våga lyfta misstag och säga sin åsikt. Begreppet psykologisk trygghet som sådant är dock inte allmänt vedertaget inom organisationerna. Slutsatserna från studien var att då flera nyckelaspekter inom arbetet med ständiga förbättringar och psykologisk trygghet berör varandra så arbetar organisationerna relativt omedvetet med att skapa psykologisk trygghet i syfte att främja ett effektivt arbete med ständiga förbättringar. / The outset for this study was to look into whether organizations that work with continuous improvements also work with creating psychological safety for their employees. Psychological safety enables employees to feel confident to come up with ideas that can improve working methods and contribute to the development of the organization. Research shows that organizations miss out on development potential by not capturing the ideas of their employees. The purpose of this study was to contribute with knowledge to how organizations that are known as leading within the area of quality work considers the connection between psychological safety and continuous improvements.Three organizations that were the last to receive an award for their high quality with their work with continuous improvements, Utmärkelsen Svensk Kvalitet, were chosen for the study. One person within each organization, with deep knowledge of the organization's work with continuous improvements, were then chosen for an interview. Key aspects within the theory of continuous improvement and psychological safety were identified and the key aspects from the theory of psychological safety were used as a base for interview questions. Qualitative semi structured interviews were done with the chosen respondents.The analysis showed that the organizations in the study work with creating psychological safety mainly by fostering participation and the courage to talk about mistakes and to voice your opinion. The term psychological safety isn't well known within the organizations but the conclusion from the study is that since several areas within the work with continuous improvement and psychological safety are closely related, the organizations work relatively unconsciously with fostering an efficient work with continuous improvement by enabling participation and learning from mistakes. / <p>2020-06-26</p>
