A town centre is a public place that should be safe and accessible to everyone to become attractive and socially sustainable. A centre should contain varied selections, places for varied activities at varied times, and for a diversity of people. In the literature, one of the most fundamental parts in a centre is the square, which is described as an important place for social gatherings, both spontaneous and planned ones. This study aims to examine the centre in Husum, an industrial society located 25 kilometres outside of Örnsköldsvik, where the lack of a distinct centre is obvious. The purpose of this study is to investigate how the centre is structured, and how well it matches what the literature describes that a centre should include. The most suitable location of the future centre is also being investigated. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six people with key roles in the local Husum, to find out what the centre contains today, what it might be missing, and how and by whom it is used. The results show that the most fundamental parameter that a centre should contain is places that enables social meetings. If people have natural places to socialize, the centre becomes more attractive and socially sustainable.

Climate change, and urbanization challenge children's well-being. Integrating child-friendly planning and sustainable development into urban policies can mitigate these challenges by prioritizing children's needs, improving mobility, reducing emissions, and enhancing green spaces, especially early in planning. This study aims to explore the integration of child-friendly planning, examine current practices and opportunities, and identify the potential benefits of focusing on synergies in comprehensive planning. The methods used are qualitative content analysis of 9 comprehensive plans and two interviews with planners. The study found comprehensive plans acknowledge schools, mobility, equality, and residential/public spaces. However, in line with previous research, improvements are still needed. Synergies are identified at a few places in each comprehensive plan, and links are rarely actively made to ecological aspects. The challenges and possibilities for child-friendly planning were compliance throughout the entire planning chain, a well-thought-out dialogue process, time and resources, and openness from the planner. Opportunities with synergies were described as highlighting children's rights, helping to gain resources and cooperation benefits, and making planning more effective by identifying multiple benefits. The planners saw synergies differently. One saw the benefits, and the other focused on children's rights planning. These can be discussed depending on various factors, such as the context in which they operate, educational background, and personal preferences. According to the study, more synergies could provide more opportunities for child-friendly planning practices in some cases. Further, the study demonstrated the need for more child-friendly planning practices in comprehensive plans to meet the needs of present and future generations of children.

Studien syftar till att förstå hur nationella riktlinjer i dess policyimplementering uppfylls på lokal nivå. Finns det särskilda faktorer så som platsens förutsättningar, eller sammanhang så som kommunens geografi som kan påverka implementeringen? Detta undersöks genom att studera fem svenska kommuners styrdokument och deras arbete med implementering av barnkonventionen. Studien uppnår sitt syfte med hjälp av de två frågeställningarna: (1) Skiljer sig tillämpningen av barnkonventionen i samhällsplanering mellan olika svenska kommuner? På vilket sätt och varför? Samt (2) Vilka faktorer påverkar hur en ny policy, såsom barnkonventionen, implementeras i kommunalt arbete? För att kunna besvara frågeställningarna utgår studien framför allt från tre teorier och teoretiska begrepp; organisationsteorin, implementeringsteorin, samt geografiska faktorer. Studien utgår även från en kvalitativ metod i form av tematisk dokumentinnehållsanalys. Dokumenten som analyseras utgörs av styrdokument i olika former från fem olika svenska kommuner, Stockholm, Göteborg, Jönköping, Helsingborg och Uppsala. Resultatet visar bland annat att tillämpningen av barnkonventionen i de olika kommunernas styrdokument ser olika ut. Graden implementering av den nationella riktlinjen skiljer sig alltså mellan kommunerna, där Jönköping har högst och Göteborg lägst implementering. Dessutom berörs barnkonventionen omedvetet i vissa kommuner, genom uttryck och formuleringar som berör barns perspektiv eller barnperspektiv. Vidare visar resultatet på flera olika faktorer som kan påverka graden implementering av en nationell riktlinje så som översättningsprocessen, förväntade handlingar, översättarens möjligheter, geografiska och specifika kontexter. En slutsats som är möjlig att dra från studien är att barnkonventionen som en nationell riktlinje och lag ännu inte nödvändigtvis har förändrat barnens ställning, och barnens bästa i alla frågor som rör barn är inte alltid prioritet. Samtidigt går det att se en vilja och önskan om att detta ska uppnås och att dessa perspektiv och lagen även ska tillgodoses i verkligheten. Lokala kontexter och idéer är framträdande vad gäller graden av implementering av barnkonventionen där medvetna handlingar av översättarna spelar roll för utfallet.
