Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka vilka föreställningar om kvinnan, kvinnlighet och kvinnligt lärarskap som på olika sätt uttrycks och reproduceras vid Värmlands läns landstings småskoleseminarium under perioden 1873 till 1933. Detta sker genom en kvalitativ analys av den sammanfattande historik som K.G. Jonsson skrev i samband med seminariets nedläggning, samt protokoll och motioner författade av Värmlands läns landsting och tidningsartiklar från Nya Wermlands tidningen. Med hjälp av stereotypen som analysverktyg har ett antal teman valts ut som sedan analyserats med en genusteoretisk utgångspunkt.  Resultatet visar att kvinnobilden under hela undersökningsperioden stämmer väl in på det religiös-nationella kvinnoideal som av Ingela Schånberg beskrivs som mycket utbrett under tiden och som utmärks av kristen luthersk moral, moderlighet och en vilja att bidra till samhället. Utöver detta framkommer också att det särskilt under seminariets tidiga år finns en tydlig uppfattning om könens särart, där moderskapet och hemmet lyfts fram som kvinnans viktigaste uppgifter, vilket gör kvinnan som bättre lämpad att undervisa små barn.   Bland de mer intressanta resultaten finns en tendens att beskriva lärarinneyrket som en kamp och att medan historikens författare lyfter fram arbetsmoralen och kampen i det slitiga lärarinneyrket, fokuserar de kvinnliga seminaristerna själva i högre grad på sitt rika fritidsliv. / The aim of this essay is to find out what conceptions of women, womanhood and female teachership expressed and reproduced at the Värmland Region Junior School Teacher Training Institute during the period 1873–1933. This is done through a gender-theoretical analysis of a summary history written by K.G. Jonsson in conjunction with the seminar’s closure. Using the stereotype as an analysis tool, a number of themes have been selected which have then been analyzed with a gender theory point of departure.  The result shows that the image of women throughout the study aligns with the religiousnational ideal of women, which historian Schånberg describes as common at the time, and which is characterized by Christian Lutheran morality, motherhood and a willingness to contribute to society. In addition, it is also evident that there is a clear perception of gender specificity, especially during the early years of the seminar, where the home and motherhood are high lightened as woman’s most important tasks, making the woman suited to teach young children.  Among the more interesting results, there is a tendency to describe the woman teaching profession as a struggle or a battle, and while the author of the seminar’s history emphasize female teachers work ethic and and the struggle of the teaching profession, the female seminarians themselves focus more on their rich leisure life.
