Vliv přídavku lněného oleje gravidním a laktujícím bahnicím na odchov jehňat / The effect of linseed oil to pregnant and lactating ewes for rearing lambs

KLÁTIL, Jaroslav January 2013 (has links)
The aim of this thesis was to evaluate the influence of the addition of linseed oil to pregnant and lactating ewes to rearing of lambs. For more conclusive results ewes were divided into groups that received linseed oil (for testing) and the group without the constituents of linseed oil in the diet (control). Effect of linseed oil was demonstrated in ewes blood analysis. Analysis of blood parameters were monitored three - cholesterol, triglycerides and lipase. Physiological levels of cholesterol in sheep is 1,7 mmol.l-1. Before the test was observed in ewes cholesterol levels from 1,6 to 2,2 mmol.l-1 and after the test in the range from 1,3 to 1-9 mmol.l-1. Cholesterol after the test decreased in both the test and the control group. Natural levels of triglycerides in ewes is 0.8 mmol.l-1. In our case, the TAG content was below this threshold. Before the test from 0,18 to 0,22 mmol.l-1 after the test from 0.08 to 0.19 mmol.l-1. In test and control groups after the test content triglycerides decreased. After the test, reducing the content of the lipase in the test group and an increase of the content of the control group. Lambs of control and test group ewes were compared on the following criteria: average daily gain (higher increases should control group lambs), weight in control days, the chemical composition of meat - nitrogen, protein and fats. The normal composition of lamb meat: 21 % crude protein, 4,75 % fat and 1,1 % ash. In our case, the content of the NL test group 22,3 % and 21,8 % of the control group, the fat content of the test group and the control 6,5 % and 5,4 %, ash content in the test group and the control 1,23 % and 1,25 %. Further monitoring criteria: weight in carcass weight (between groups) and analysis of blood (cholesterol, triglycerides and lipase) - no difference between test and control lambs.

Ambos métodos e resultados são discutidos e comparados ao final do trabalho / This work presents an approach based on time series processing to deal with the damage detection and prognosis issue in structures coupled with piezoelectric sensors and actuators considering eventual operational and environmental variabilities. The first approach is based on the identification of a predictive autoregressive model obtained with a reference time response. Damage indicative metrics are extracted from prediction errors and the separation of effects (loading or damage) is performed by a fuzzy clustering algorithm. This procedure is carried on a composite structure attached to a material test system to reproduce loading conditions in order to simulate real operational conditions. On the other hand, the second proposed methodology employs a two step identification. First, an autoregressive model is created for structural monitoring similarly to the previous procedure, but employing statistical process control to detect progressive damage. Next, autoregressive models with exogenous inputs are estimated for reference and damaged conditions in order to track variation of parameters, allowing the prognosis of the structure's future structural condition. Initial tests on an aluminum plate indicated that this method is capable of performing a reasonable prognosis and predicting structure's dynamic behavior associated to a specific level of mass reduction. Both methods and results are discussed and compared by the end of the work

Damage detection in structures using guided waves and arrays is a promising research area, especially in the aerospace and energy fields, where the use of plate-like structures demands thorough inspection due to the high safety levels of operation. Guided acoustic waves techniques can be used to inspect relatively large areas without the necessity of moving the transducers, in a non-destructive way. There are different propagation modes that can be coupled to the plate, and each mode is sensitive to specific types of defects, like notches, delamination and surface defects. Wave propagation, different propagation modes and dispersion characteristics, as well as arrays characteristics and imaging algorithms, are studied. MATLAB and PZFlex simulations are used to get further insight in the theoretical aspects, to obtain dispersion curves, interaction with defects and array response. Experimental results validate the simulations with isotropic materials (aluminum). A 16-elements piezoelectric linear array is mounted at the border of an aluminum plate with artificial defects. The signals related to all combinations of transmit-receive pairs are obtained with burst excitation, for use with synthetic aperture (SA) techniques. The first contribution of this work is a method for defect detection based on the instantaneous phase of the aperture data. The instantaneous phase (IP) image is obtained by replacing the amplitude information by the instantaneous phase in the conventional SA beamforming. From the analysis of the IP image, a threshold level is proposed in terms of the number of signals used for imaging. Use of computed tomography based predictors of meat quality in sheep breeding programmes

Clelland, Neil January 2016 (has links)
One of the main drivers influencing consumers in the purchasing of red meat is the level of visible fat, and this is particularly important in lamb, with lamb often being perceived as fatty. Consumer-driven preference for leaner meat, coupled with the meat processing industries preference for a reduction in carcass fat, increasing lean meat yield and reducing waste, have led to continued selection for lean growth and reduced fatness in several meat producing species The perception of lamb being fatty could be directly targeted in isolation by reducing overall fat levels, however there are related effects on meat (eating) quality, and the combined improvement and consistency of meat (eating) quality and the reduction of overall fatness is more complicated. It is apparent that fat content plays a significant role in meat (eating) quality. Generally four major fat depots are recognised in animal carcasses, these are: subcutaneous (under the skin); internal organ associated; intermuscular (between muscles and surrounding muscle groups); and intramuscular (marbling, between muscle fibres), the latter generally regarded as having the greatest association with meat (eating) quality. X-ray computed tomography (CT) can measure fat, muscle and bone in vivo in sheep and CT predictions of carcass composition have been used in commercial UK sheep breeding programmes over the last two decades. Together with ultrasound measures of fat and muscle depth in the loin region, CT measured carcass fat and muscle weights have contributed much to the success of breeding for leaner carcasses and increased lean meat yield. Recently it has also been considered that x-ray computed tomography provides the means to simultaneously estimate IMF and carcass fat in vivo. Thus the aim of this project is to investigate the use of two and three-dimensional x-ray computed tomography techniques in the estimation of meat (eating) quality traits in sheep, and to further investigate the genetic basis of these traits and the possibility of their inclusion into current breeding programmes. The primary approach was the use of two-dimensional x-ray computed tomography, determining the most accurate combination of variables to predict IMF and mechanical shear force in the loin. The prediction of mechanical shear force was poor with accuracies ranging from Adj R2 0.03 – 0.14, however the prediction of IMF in the loin was more promising. CT predicted carcass fat weight accounted for a moderate amount of variation in IMF (R2 =0.51). These accuracies were significantly improved upon by including other information from the CT scans (i.e. fat and muscle densities, Adj R2 >0.65). Average muscle density in a single or multiple scans accounted for a moderate amount of the variation in IMF (Adj R2 = 0.51-0.60), and again accuracies R2 >0.65 were achieved, independent of CT-measured fat areas or predicted fat weights. Similar results were achieved with the use of three-dimensional CT scanning techniques (Adj R2 0.51 – 0.71), however, there was a dramatically increased requirement for image analysis when compared to two-dimensional techniques, and the increase in accuracy was not significant. This suggests that the current method of two-dimensional image capture is sufficient in the estimation of IMF in vivo in sheep. The prediction equations developed as part of this work were applied across divergent breed types (Texel, Scottish Blackface and Texel cross mule), to investigate the transferability of the prediction equations directly across to other breeds of sheep. As part of this study, the IMF levels across the breed types and sexes were also compared and found that IMF was significantly affected by breed type (P<0.001) with Scottish Blackface lambs having higher levels of IMF when compared to Texel cross mule lambs, and the lowest levels of IMF were in the purebred Texel lambs at the same liveweight or similar levels of carcass fatness. Sex also had a significant effect on IMF across breeds (P<0.001) with females having higher levels of IMF at similar levels of both carcass fat and liveweight, and within breed, females had significantly higher levels of IMF in both the purebred Texel and Scottish Blackface lambs, when compared at similar levels of carcass fat and liveweight (P<0.05). Using the models previously developed in purebred Texel to predict IMF in the Scottish Blackface and Texel cross mule, accuracies were found to be R2 = 0.57 – 0.64 and R2 = 0.37 – 0.38 respectively. Providing evidence that the equations are transferable across to some breeds more successfully than others, however, given that there is currently no method of accurately estimating IMF in vivo, accuracies across to both breeds are acceptable. The genetic parameter estimation was unsuccessful using the same research-derived dataset as previously employed in the study. However the ambition was always to investigate the genetic relationships between traits in a large industry dataset, exploiting the wealth of commercial CT information available. These investigations were considerably more successful, and among the first to present genetic parameters of novel CT-derived IMF estimates. The results found moderate heritability estimates of h2 0.31 and 0.36 for the final selected prediction equations, with clear indications that one model not including CT predicted carcass fat or any other fat measures, was more independent of these measures and the two separate prediction methods were highly genetically correlated with each other (rg = 0.89). The results from this study show that not only is it possible to accurately estimate IMF levels in the loin of Texel sheep using CT scanning, but that, until breed specific predictions are developed, the methods developed in this study are transferable across some breed types. The results also show that CT predicted IMF is heritable, independent of overall fatness and has the potential to be included in current breeding programmes. These findings can now be used to develop breeding programmes which enable breeders to make the best use of CT scanning technology to improve carcass composition while maintaining or possibly improving aspects of meat (eating) quality.

Grão de soja na alimentação de cordeiros: desempenho, características da carcaça e digestibilidade dos nutrientes / Whole soybean on performance, carcass characteristics and nutrient digestibility of Santa Inês lambs

Fumi Shibata Urano 03 February 2006 (has links)
Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of using whole soybean (WS) on high grain diets fed to ram lambs. In Experiment I (performance trial): Sixty-four Santa Inês ram lambs (initial BW 20±0.2 kg and 75±2 days old) were assigned to a complete randomized block design according to body weight and age at beginning of the trial. The objective was to evaluate the effects of WS on lamb growth, carcass yield and lamb cuts. Lambs were fed a 90% concentrate (WS, soybean meal, ground corn and minerals) and 10% “coastcross” hay (Cynodon spp) diet for 56 days. WS was added at 0, 7, 14 and 21% of the diet dry matter, corresponding to the experimental treatments WS0, WS7, WS14 and WS21, respectively. Dry matter intake (1.1; 1.0; 0.9; 0.9 kg/day), crude protein intake (199.2; 181.5; 179.0; 175.2 g/day) and average daily gain (298, 275, 280, 255 g/day) decreased linearly (P < 0.05). However, ether extract intake (43.8; 49.7; 57.2; 66.0 g/day) increased linearly (P < 0.05) with higher levels of whole soybean. Feed conversion, carcass yield and lamb cuts were not affected (P > 0.05) by WS inclusion in the diet. In Experiment II (metabolism trial): Twenty Santa Inês ram lambs (initial BW 37±0.9 kg and 150±3 days) were assigned to a complete randomized block design according to body weight and age at beginning of the trial, and fed the same diets used in Experiment I. There were no differences (P > 0.05) in dry matter, organic matter, ether extract and neutral detergent fiber apparent digestibilities in the total digestive tract. Crude protein apparent digestibility in the total digestive tract and nitrogen metabolism were similar among treatments (P > 0.05). High levels of WS had adversely affected dry matter intake and average daily gain of the lambs. However, it didn’t affect feed conversion and nutrients digestibility. The inclusion of WS in high concentrate diets provided satisfactory feedlot lamb performance.
