En mötesplats för integration : En kvalitativ studie kring ett språkcafé och hur det kan hjälpa deltagarna med viktiga delar i deras integration / A Meeting Place for Integration : A Qualitative Study of a Language Café and How It Can Help the Participants With Important Parts of Their Integration

Jonasson, Ida January 2022 (has links)
The aim of this study was to find out which functions of a language café in Karlskrona have for its participants and how it can help them with their integration process. At the language café immigrants and natives meet to talk and socialize together, with the idea that the immigrants should practice the language. The study is based on interviews with the immigrants, and with yhe person in charge og the café, to find answer for the purpose of this study and essay. Two questions have been asked: What functions does the language café fulfill for the participants and why do they participate? And, in what way can the language café contribuate to the participants' integration? Diaz's (1996;1997) integration theory was used as a model to analyze which integration dimensions the language café helps the participants with. The main result of the study shows that 1) the participants primarily participate to practice the language but also meet Swedes and other immigrants, and 2) that it mainly benefits their communicative and social integration.

Utvärdering av Part-of-Speech tagging som metod för identifiering av nyckelord i dialog / Evaluation of Part-of-Speech tagging as a method for identification of keywords in dialogs

He, Jeannie, Norström, Matthew January 2019 (has links)
This study presents Part-of-Speech tagging as a method for keyword spotting as well as a market research for a conversational robot to lead a language café. The results are evaluated using the answers from 30 anonymous Swedish native speakers. The results show that the method is plausible and could be implemented in a conversational robot to increase its understanding of the spoken language in a language café. The market research indicates that there is a market for the conversational robot. The conversional robot needs, however, improvements to successfully become a substitute for human language teachers in language cafés.

Broar och sociala band : En intervjustudie om språkcaféers roll i invandrares sociala integration / Bridges and social ties : An interview study on the role of language cafes in immigrants' social integration

Henschel, Jasmin January 2023 (has links)
This text sets out to shed light on certain aspects of immigrant integration in Sweden. Focus for this study was immigrants’ social integration, i.e., creating personal long-term connections with members of the host society. This study’s aim is to examine the role language cafés as regularly conducted by, for example, non-profit organisations and the Swedish church play in immigrants’ social integration into the Swedish society. Language cafés bring together newly arrived immigrants and residents that have established a living in Sweden; these range from ethnic Swedes to other former immigrants with varying backgrounds and ethnicities. During the meetings, participants practice the Swedish language in a casual way with focus on everyday life while enjoying Swedish fika together. Given the general set up of language cafés and the fact that everyone participates voluntarily, these intercultural meetings lead, in some cases, to lasting contacts between immigrants and residents outside the language practicing activity. In relation to social integration, the question this study seeks to answer is therefore: how do intercultural meetings at language cafés support contacts between immigrants and residents, and in what ways do these contacts facilitate social integration? For this study, interviews were conducted with six former participants of language cafés in various locations in Sweden. These interviews built the basis for conducting a thematic analysis; it shows that people’s intercultural meetings at language cafés can lead to minor and medium sized contact networks that promote several aspects of social integration such as professional development, physical and mental health benefits, and friendships. In this study, these emerging connections are analysed and explained through theoretical framework related to intercultural meetings and communication.

Språk och integration

Abed El Rehman, Zolfa January 2014 (has links)
Abstract In general, language is the key to the community, to self-sufficiency and independence. Being able to speak the Swedish language is a part of the community integration. Integration also has a practical aspect that includes everyday life and affects one's opportunities in the labor market. Therefore, we have selected in this paper to focus on the language and integration but inevitably we will also discuss the education you need on the labor market. The purpose of this study is to describe how the staffs at the Language Café Nobel works for an increased integration in Malmo, and examine the significance of Language Café Nobel have for their participants. In order to fulfil the purpose we used a qualitative method, which involves semi-structured interviews and participant observations. To interpret and gain a deeper understanding of the informants' answers, we used a hermeneutical approach as an analysis method. Based on informant’s answers, the results showed that Language Café Nobel has helped them to develop their communicative Swedish language, which has made their life become easier. For some, the information from Language café has been beneficial for the participants because it has led to integration into the society. This shows that the Language Café Nobel is working for a better integration in Malmo.
